  • Norway has the most electric vehicles per capita in the world, and it's super easy to rent one yourself when going on a road trip. You can find charging stations almost everywhere in the cities, but what about in the remote mountain regions? Dag and Katarina are going for it - they are driving a rented EV to Jotunheimen National Park! How far will the battery on wheels take them? Will there be enough charging stations to get them to their final destination: Gjendesheim Tourist Cabin?

I'm debating on renting an ICEV vs. a BEV when I visit Norway soon. I think that the biggest problem, which will probably keep me from renting a BEV, is that there are so many different charging-station companies, requiring a great many apps on your smartphone to be able to use, and potentially causing extra problems if you don't know the Norwegian language. So for an "outsider", it does not seem wise to plan on renting a BEV in Norway, especially if you plan to drive from Oslo to Tromsø and back, as we do. All charging stations should allow payment via swiping or tapping of standard credit cards, no exceptions.

I hear that you can register your credit card to pay at the charging stations. I do not have data on my phone, what other options are there? Is wifi widely available? Do rental car companies still offer plenty of fuel cars? Thanks!

In case you are not sure about you data coverage plan, we recommend renting a hybrid. Like this you can pay gasoline by credit card at the service stations, and use some of the electric power when driving in Norway.
