    It just keeps surprising me that you get this level of detail with such basic materials. You could even cut a circular hole in the floor of the structure and put in one of those multicolour led tealights for added mystery effect!

    That shade of brown wash is absolutely exquisite against the stone color and the toilet paper technique really brought it to another level. Can’t wait to try this !

      @@BardsCraft I have only just found your channel but I have to say your scenes are so amazingly realistic and I love them! I've not long started making miniatures but for dolls houses (scale model type houses, not toys) and I found a great way of doing reasonably realistic shrubs recently that might be useful for a scene. I found some little pine cone type things while I was outside - they were more like seed pod type cones, probably an inch or two tall, (according to Google, they're Alder cones). Anyway I coated them in pva glue, added flower soft, made a miniature pot from polymer clay & created miniature flowering topiary/shrubs for my house doorstep, but if you used less bright materials to coat them, they might be good shrubbery for a scene. I've also accumulated a good quantity of alcohol inks from my papercraft hobby, and I found those good for colouring non porous surfaces.

    A fair number of tabletop crafters have been utilizing MDF recently, but it didn't seem like a way I wanted to go, yet i still have been searching for a firm but thin basing option. Enter the Duke of crafting on the cheap, Bard's Craft, with hardboard. BRILLIANT! I don't know why I had not thought of hardboard or masonite myself.
    I'm not sure who's better at crafting on the cheap, you or DM Scotty, but he is our Craftfather, so he's probably the King.

    • @BardsCraft
      @BardsCraft  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good luck with the hardboard bases then. Tip if you don't want to buy a large sheet from a hardware store you might find some on the back of junk furniture

    For pigments I buy a very cheap pack of soft pastels (not oil pastels) and grind them up in my mortar and pestel. If you can find a pack with only autumn colours that would be best since most of the bright colours won't be useful. Still you can get like 5 useful browns, gray and black pigments for less the the price of one weathering pigment pot. Make sure to wear a mask when grinding them so you dont inhale the dust. The cheap brand i found is called semco.

    Right on, buddy. This crypt entrance looked like a lot of fun. I really do find your builds so inspirational. I just completed a Star Wars desert compound building and, in hindsight, I realize that I am a super slow crafter. It's really very freeing to see and watch you whack on that stuff so quickly. I need to take a cue from your style and just build without so much thought and introspection. Let the creative juices flow, as they say. Anyway, thanks again for such inspirational stuff. Keep the vids coming. Cheers, --Bo

    • @Markovian_
      @Markovian_ 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      erc1971erc1971 yeah! Right!! He doesn't need proper tools and I understand that's the draw of his process. But I like to imagine epic level terrain.

    • @CrankyPantss
      @CrankyPantss 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      erc1971erc1971 How are they “wrong tools”? He gets the job done, nicely, every time. Are you under the impression that you have to use the expensive, trendy tools that the bigger channels use or they're wrong? He shows that you don’t need fancy, expensive foam cutters and air brushes to make fun terrain.

    • @erc1971erc1971
      @erc1971erc1971 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CrankyPantss Take that huge knife for instance. He does way more with it than I ever would have imagined. For instance, I am mystified at how he cuts large sheets for foam and keeps the thickness uniform. If it were me, it would either be hotwire cutter or lots and lots of measuring ,etc.

    • @Markovian_
      @Markovian_ 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      CrankyPants maybe stop taking specific words someone uses out of context. They are obviously giving him a compliment. Settle down we are all fans here. When someone comedically uses a kitchen knife for terrain building it's impressive and funny.
