My Sendero is old, J lock on bolt, black finish with no barrel fluting, and the older style HS Precision stock, chambered in 7mm Rem Mag. Doesn't look fancy but it's damn accurate.

Only how that stock will fit another 700 is if you have same barrel profile and recoil lug profile and of course same action. That will not fit for example a Remington 700 BDL classic.

Sendero is one of Remington's better rifles . But the trigger and extractor are subpar in my opinion .
You cannot beat the reliability of a Mauser action ,that is why Rigby , Holland and Holland et al still build their rifles around the Mauser . The 700 was designed as a cheap way of producing a rifle to compete with the Winchester model 70 , not because it is a better design .
Magnum cartridges are filled with slow burning powders , hence the need for a 26 inch barrel .
This rifle is built to fill a niche in the American market , a 300 Win mag on British deer is huge overkill .
.270 or 6.5 is more than adequate , if you're too idle to get close enough or you haven't spent the time to learn your ammunition's trajectory , you really can't call yourself a sportsman and you should not be shooting at live quarry .

300 wm can be downloaded to 308 velocities. I've hunted coyote and white tail with it using 130gr TTSX with no issue and minimal meat damage. The advantage of a magnum lets me use heavier monolithics for moose and black bear when I need it, a shooter is not obligated to shoot a magnum chamber at magnum velocities. I have a 308w savage impulse in a 20" barrel that can cook up 125gr's to 3000 fps. The Rem Sendero is probably one of the most comfortable factory produced rifles for magnum recoil, stocks on heavy recoiling rifles should have as little drop as possible.

The 700s have won more Shooting Championships than any model 70 or Mauser action ever has combined. There has never been a more successful or popular bolt action rifle sold anywhere in the world during any period of time. No other bolt action rifle has killed more game than the model 700. There has never been an action copied as much as the 700 action. No other rifle that has even come close to being as widely adopted for use in military or police precision sniper teams. Remington chose a BETTER design, because it was cheaper, simpler, and more accurate. It was a more efficient way to achieve a goal, and that is why they crushed winchester's 70 in sales as well any anything with a Mauser action. That is why there is and always will be more custom actions built on the 700 footprint and action than there ever will be for the model 70 or the mauser. The only reason Winchester even used the Mauser Action was because they didn't have the funds to design a proprietary action.

    • @dungspreader
      @dungspreader 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@chaseacklam6174 . No doubt that the 700 has been a success .
Barrel design and manufacture have , I believe a greater effect than the action that holds the cartridge . Target shooters favour the spring loaded ejector over the fixed blade of the Mauser so that they can cycle the action more slowly .
However a lot of very bold statements were made with no figures to back them . BSA made an action very similar to the Remington in the 1950s , so maybe Remington took a lead from them .
Military contracts are not always won because the rifle is superior , there are many other factors including financial and political pressure .
Ruger still make a rifle based on the Mauser design , although the method of manufacturing is different. Winchester still sell the model 70 .
      Remington went broke .
We can argue about this forever and I doubt either will change their views .
My comment was made in the light of using a rifle of this type and calibre on mainland Britain .
      I still believe it's overkill .
But the man holding the rifle is the main factor determining the result.
Carlos Hathcock didn't have a problem with the model 70 .

@@dungspreader Remington had its deathnote signed in 2012 when Obama was elected, New York's anti gun policies took effect and Remington was sued for bushmasters involvement in sandy hook. That cost Remington more money in 2012 than Ruger or Winchester made for that ENTIRE year. There isn't a single firearms manufacturer that could survive this series of events. Nonetheless, Remington is back.
Ruger nor Winchester use the Mauser action for their precision rifles for a reason. And it's not because of the speed of which you can cycle the action. That's irrelevant most precision shooters are handfeeding loads anyways and are always retaining their brass. They are not flinging brass across their stand and do not intend to.
Your point on military contracts *might* be sound in the context of standard issue equipment but not for elite sniper teams or secret service purposes. The m40 was chosen because no other rifle could be fielded as effectively.
BSA's action was not like remingtons '3 rings of steel' cylindrical receiver.
I dont know why you're hung up on the caliber. 700s were chambered for more calibers than any other bolt action rifle.
300 win mag isn't even a niche caliber. It's one of the highest popularity calibers sold year after year across north america and is being phased out for cartridges more efficient at ranges 800 yards and further such as 7/300PRC, the Normas, etc.
And my statements arent backed by figures? Try over 5 Million 700s sold in the last 50 years. The highest claims for the model 70 was 2 million sold. Of the Top 200 PRS shooters (Best shooters in the world by a longshot), over 190 of those shooters are using Custom Actions all based on the Remingotn 700 action's cylindrical receiver, recoil lug, bolt shroud, footprint, inlet, trigger, and safety.
There is no arguing with the sheer scale the 700s adoption globally. It wasnt just 'successful' like a Ruger or a Winchester was 'successful'. It dominated the market and as of today is still by far the most popular and successful action ever sold to the public.

@@chaseacklam6174 You are talking about North America and target shooting . My original comment was about deer stalking in Britain . Two very differemt things . There is nothing in the British Isles that requires a 300 Win Mag to kill it .
Have a look at the size of the extractor on a BSA , it's much more robust than a Rem . All British guns are proofed by an independent body before being sold to the public , so no matter how many " rings of steel " they will be more than strong enough .
The market also played a part in Remingtons demise . The quality of their arms was declining . My 1990s 700 is head and shoulders better than Rems later models .
Ruger 77 and Win 70 are developments of the Mauser because they utilise the claw extractor .I may have forgotten to mention that .
One could also state that Howa is a development of the 700 , or is it a copy , it doesn't really matter .
Some would say the Rem 788 was a more accurate rifle .
700 s are cheaper to manufacture,
      Therein lies the advantage .
What elite sniper teams use is irrelevent to game shooting in the UK .
There is also a reason for H & H , Rigby etc to make dangerous game rifles based on the Mauser 98 ( which is still being made by Mauser ) .

@@silverback7659 I've had to polish out chamber and forcing cone areas on 11 of their shotguns over the last 2 years, 870 and 1187. None of them were the inexpensive Express models. 2 of the 870's were "better" Wingmaster models. The balance of the 870's and 1187s are Police model guns that needed attention before they were reliable enough to put into service. The action bars on 3 870's needed alignment work done in order to function correctly. The extractor cutout's in the barrels of the Police model guns all had machining burrs sharp enough to cut. The rear of the chamber's on several of the shotguns also had burrs that needed to be removed or fired shells would be stuck fast.
Crooked choke tube installation on 1 870 and 2 1187 shotguns in the past. One 870 waterfowl shotgun with no threading on the front of the magazine tube where the magazine cap screws on. Several vent rib barrels of both 870 and 1187 shotguns where the rib was canted at an obvious angle to the receiver.
Rough chambers in 2 model 700 rifles, one bad trigger in a model 7 rifle. and depending on the particular recent production metal finish that rusts at the drop of a hat.
There are some other issues but these are just what's off the top of my head.

@@BigT27295 HA! It's not bad luck at all as much as what I've worked on over several years. The reasonable question was asked and I answered what I've seen and worked on from this general era. I do have a contrast to my earlier post which is that when I used an 1187 as my primary competition clays gun for a few seasons I put just under 37,000 rounds through that firearm. The only failures I had were ammunition related. The parts I replaced in it were a few action springs when they fell below spec, 2 sets of rings, and a handful of barrel seals which is a consumable part for that platform.

In today's market, a factory 26 inch rifle has no place. Everyone is achieving great accuracy and ease of use with 18-22 inch barrels in long range target and competition. When hunting is concerned, blokes aren't using long, thick barrels anymore. We're all using Sporter and heavy Sporter barrels between 22-24 inch as they are the best balance of performance and ease of use for hunting. The blokes who do like hunting with 26 inch barrels are typically running ultra magnums fitted with custom barrels anyway. This gun has no place in the current market.

@Bannsider I feel for you in the UK, then. In the States, Bugeras are around $1000USD. I can get a nice 700 for $700. I can get an ADL for $400 or less and have a good shooting rifle that will hold submoa and a scope for less than a Bugera. I can get the ADL and put a barrell chambered in the caliber of my choice, length, and profile and still be ahead of a Bugera. That's not to say that I would never purchase a Bugera. I shoot and own many brands of rifles and Bugeras have a reputation for accuracy. I just seem to have many more less expensive options with Remington than you folks in the UK do.

Wow ! I Re barreled mine with a 30 caliber 31 inch border Barrel for F Class. Chambered in 308 Win, it’s now back to 270, with its original barrel. Shot 5/8 of an inch at 200 yards and I took over 97 Deer with it by in the day before it was rechambered .
Yes it was extremely accurate with a custom 308, hard to call that compared to its Original caliber. It’s personal choice, I shoot open Country and that Rifle will go the distance out to 400 yards if I deem that to be necessary. I don’t do extreme long Range on Deer, I’m more than capable of taking a Deer clean at that Range.
