    Thank you for the reminder, I often forget to go simple. Using these tips I just sketched the best castle I've ever drawn from imagination!

    This was exactly what I've been looking for. I've got books and books on perspective but there just seemed to be a block. Then I saw this video, tried the exercises, and was really happy with the depth I saw in what I was making, even though they were just triangles with some value added. I knew it was working when, while watching TV one night, I saw a shot of a hallway...halls and sconces and doors and stuff, right? But for a second, I SAW THE MATRIX and flashed on the really simple shapes that were creating that depth. Thanks for setting me on the right path! I'm going to tell folks about you on my blog.

      Oh, and for anyone else struggling with environments, "How to Draw Backgrounds with Character" by BetsyIllustration on DA (the book's also available on GumRoad) is equally eye-opening, but in a different way.

    Thanks Tyler, I always had a problem with "what to draw".. and I just give up faster this way and feel like "meh". But now thanks to you, I didnt think of thinking basic shapes would be such a good tool!
    But a question: I couldnt decide which to start off with, character or environment drawing, I thought If I do character first, anything else gets easier to learn, but I think its not true.
    So.. do I have to know how to draw characters if I want to get hired as an environment artist?

    As a student, we feel like we're slowly running out of time before we need to have a portfolio.... any recommendations on how many of these you should do before you can work on the real finishing of a piece?

    • @TylerEdlin84
      @TylerEdlin84  5 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Kyle Lehfeldt always work on finishing a piece. Just make sure if it doesn’t turn out well you go back to something more simple. It’s like any childhood sports, your practice during the week have a game on the weekend. Do some of these then toss In a legit environment, rinse and repeat. Cant put an exact number on these things.
