Love, love starting Calendula in the 1.5” blocks. They hold up SO well in that size. Lol, I want to start more…even though it feels late. Just so pretty with all of the nepeta, alliums and the explosion of young green growth in spring.

I wondered about starting them up in bigger blocks. Thanks for sharing! I think the next round of them I'm going to do that! Enjoy them!

I already started some snapdragons, I want to pinch and see if I can get the pinches to root. Your lizzies are looking good.

Thank you, Ilene! I’ve heard you can definitely do that with snapdragons…good luck!

Wow! Where in the Chicago suburbs are you? I’m in Mettawa (since 12/2018) and have been largely deterred from planting for Spring because I hate being cold 🥶😋

Hahaha, that's so funny, we're right down the road near Riverwoods! Howdy, neighbor! The trick is investing in some nice warm cozy Carhartts! :) It helps that the majority of work right now is all done inside! But if we've got swinging temperatures like we have lately, you may not be cold long!

I don't think you should cover ranunculus in the house with those clear lids. Will possibly get mold or rot. Check Floret's growing guide. Nicole @ flower hill farm does not cover. Maybe place an open box over it to darken area.

I think you’re right…because I had mold on top of one of my trays. I was worried since I didn’t wet the soil much that they wouldn’t get enough humidity, but I was wrong. I read you could do it both ways, but especially if they’re inside I’m not going to cover them anymore. Noted! I’ve just read about the box too…may try that as well!

Will you direct sow any seeds?

I may direct some cosmos and zinnias, but that won't be until the Spring! :)
