Thank you, as someone new to sewing, and being plus size with the same waist and hip measurement, I have a hard time finding patterns that will fit me. I'm looking forward to trying this. I just wish I didn't have to clean the house so I could do it now
Love your furry assistants! And thank you for breaking this down so well. As someone who still can't understand patterns, I'm super excited to try this in a muslin mockup!
My furry assistants insist that I both use a commercial pattern for a walking skirt and your system too. They want to see which they prefer. Already they think it's yours! Phoebe is having a hard time convincing Tabitha, who had her jabs today, that girl cats don't need to wear skirts, because she wants a pink one😹 Peter and Simon say they love the colour of yours. So do i😁 .
Another super-cute skirt! This is a really excellent tutorial and I can't wait to try to make my own. Unfortunately, I don't have any cats to help me with supervision. I guess I'll have to settle for the cockatiel...except he tends to poop on things.
Thank you so much! I've only been seeing videos about how to make a walking skirt when you already have a pattern and I really don't have the money to spend on some generic pattern on Etsy. This video is a life saver!
I will save this video. I will only understand it once I try to make it for myself. It's nice to see plus women make pretty clothes to fit larger sizes. Thank you very much. We aren't all Barbie models.
Thank you! I'm short waisted, and round. So many skirt patterns simply don't work right for me, and this one will work so much better! I'm looking forward to making myself a walking skirt.
WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN ALL MY LIFE. Thank you so much for this wonderful resource. I will be forever grateful for the effort your put into this for us noobs. 💜💜💜💜💜🐝
Frack, it helps so much to be able to do the measurements math-parts along with you. And to be able to see up-close and also an overall-view from a distance in your small-screen clip in the upper-right corner. I've thought so many times that more things in life (or at least in tutorials) could be easier if I had both a first-person pov view and a project-overall "area mini-map" like some video games give you.
Thank you so much for this easy-to-follow tutorial! Walking skirts are on my future to-do list, and I'm so glad I now have this resource when I go to draft!
thank you so much for showing the way to measure myself for this particular garment, walking skirt has been my sewing list for so long but the drafting process is rather intimidating, so im glad that i stumbled on your video! the finish result is so beautiful ❤️
Thenk you thenk you thenk you. Finally I understand how to make a walking skirt!!! Your diagram helped me to make my own pattern! Be blessed and happy 🌹
Been wanting to learn how to make one of these since I found that modern walking skirt vid by the famous Bernadette banner, and I finally found the most functional way I could do it for myself. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!
That looks so good! Your steps you give are so easy to follow - my wardrobe needs some new skirts, pants and jackets and this looks chill enough to be a low-stress starter!
Thank you for this tutorial. Going to make things so much easier. I did notice your reply to someone about using the hip measurement and adding darts to fit the skirt. This is probably the way I'm going to go as squishy very well around hips when sat. Going to shorten to mid calf so fabric doesn't (hopefully) get entangled in wheelchair. The fabric saving means I might have enough for a waistcoat too :)
I absolutely love this skirt and with drafting this pattern altogether, I may or may not have gone further to include a train to this for the purpose of other projects 😅
I'm so happy I found your channel! I always wanted to sew and wear clothes of this style! You are very elegant and beautiful! Send my special greetings from Greece to your 🐈 Hercules!
Love this video. I've wanted to make a walking skirt for ages but have never been able to follow any videos butt you explain everything so clearly. I love it ❤ and will definitely give this a go . Thank you so much. X
Mercedes Lackey and Frank Herbert, but no Pauline Gedge on your bookshelf? Her Scroll of Saqqara would have been fitting, given the topic. That said, thanks for the in depth and enlightening review!
Thank you for such clear and easy to follow directions. I finished my skirt last night using a dark brown wool. the hem is slightly wobbly…. My pleats aren’t as even as I would like…. But this is my second ever garment (that’s not a hallowe’en costume) and I’m super pleased with it. Thanks again
@@PocketFullofPoseys I must also say that the wool was an excellent choice. I wore it this morning with a pair of tights and hand knit knee hi’s underneath and I was nice and cozy. Hard to be cozy when it’s -25 degrees Celsius and windy
Thank you. I've been wondering how do draft a walking skirt. I'm glad to know you find it beginner worthy. If we want a bit of tummy control without a corset (beginning sewer), would we made the band wider? If we want the waist to be adjustable, do we make extra overlap in the back pieces with extra hooks? Would that throw off the look? Would a small section of elastic help? Would that go at the center back?
You could add extra width to the back to make it more adjustable. I don't make things with elastic very often. You could add some to the back if you want. You can make the waistband as wide as you like, just make sure to measure where you want the top of the waistband to sit.
I am trying to figure out the darts. Do you just put in two darts at the side seam on either side or do you put in darts at both side-front and side-back seams?
I put one dart in the center of each side front piece. You can put them in the side front and the side back seams if you prefer. I put a pocket in one of my side back seams so I didn't use darts there. It's really up to you where you place the darts and how many you use for the look you want.
Hi there! Your video is a Godsend as I’m new to this. I was wondering about a couple things though. I didn’t hear any seam allowance added to the length of the gores, and don’t pleats make the waist smaller/tighter so shouldn’t we make the gores a bit wider knowing we will be adding pleats?
My hips are over 12" bigger than my waist, so I'm not sure if the bottom width is going to be right on me--will I have wonky proportions since the bottom sweep won't be as big as I'm more hourglass-y?
Hello! I'm not sure if you'll answer this comment, since this video is a few years old, but I had a small question. How would you go about shortening the length of the skirt? I was hoping to make one just below the knee, but am worried that if I simply followed the exact instructions, but made the pattern shorter, it would be too "ruffly" (though, to be honest, I'm not sure there is such a thing as a skirt that's too "ruffly" haha). I was thinking I could just trace out the pattern at the intended length and then cut it a bit shorter, thus removing the proportional ammount of width, but I do like a swooshy skirt, so maybe I'd be better off tracing the pattern out with the smaller length to begin with? Either way, thank you so much for this video, it's been a really big help for me!

I would do a mockup, but it would probably be easiest to draft it full length and measure up and adjust the pattern from there to your desired length.
