Edwardian era = 1901 to 1910 when King Edward VII died. However stylistically it stayed until 1914 and the outbreak of what became The Great War. It didn't become World War One until 3rd September, 1939, the date the 2nd World War began. The Great War was also known as The War To End All Wars. If only someone had had a crystal ball to see 21 years into the future. I love your skirt. The fabric is brilliant.
Yeah, it was moretje war that was actually the cause of an even worse war because it turns out it’s actually pretty easy to radicalise people who are suffering economically due to losing this war” But I get that the title was a bit long.
Honestly this wool looks a bit like this wool Bernadette has been teasing us with for MONTHS on Patreon and I’m so glad cause I need to see something made of this fabric or I’m gonna lose it
Was just about to comment something like this! I don't follow Bernadette on patreon (because no money, would love to in the future) but she showed it in one of her garment district vlogs right? Or is there another one?
I made a skirt just like this one, but the wool was green and black. Veeery Slytherin, but sadly I finished right when spring came (I live in Chile, so autumn is far away) so I'll just have to wait until next year to be able to wear it . By the way ,It look amazing!
I love your videos, because whenever I want my mom to sew me something, she always tells me to "show it to her". And then I just click on one of your videos and point out what exactly do I want. Your yellow linen combo was my favourite so far but now we have a new contestant! This seems easy enough for me to try to learn how to sew! And because our house is a morgue during winter, even the mockup won't go to waste! Thank you again for your videos, they are really inspiring!
I really appreciate that you put in the simple fix of how to adjust the waistband for corseted versus non-corseted: another button! I love the placket + extra buttons solution that Victorian and Edwardian skirts have. Zippers are nonsense!
alright, several things: 1) edwardian era ended 1914 despite the guy dieing in 1910 2) your hair is SO pretty!!! honestly, goals, absolute goals, the gorgeous, black curls!!! what is happening?!? 3) that skirt is EVERYTHING! - and when my way less pretty fabric arrives on tuesday, i will immediately cut it to pieces to have one, too!
Ah this was lovely. I love your hack to adjust the size. It seems intuitive but I don't think I would have figured it out I would have been very frustrated
The border on the thumbnail made me think I had already watched this video! So glad I clicked to double check ☺️ would’ve hated to miss out on this one! Great work!!
Hi from France Cat's ! I've just began my sewing journey 'cause none of classic 'fast fashion' clothes suits me well I find you and also the youtuber Rachel Maksy, very inspirering to me. Thanks a lot 🧡 And have a sweet day, Foxy 🦊🍁
This was such perfect timing! I literally just drafted out an 1895 walking skirt that I'm putting together this week. One thing I haven't managed to find- a good explanation of how to do the pleats in the back!
I love this skirt and will make it too. I made the skirt from the keystone guide which was fun and my first historical project but now I would love to make something wearable, more history-bounding than historical piece of clothing. And this seems just beautiful.
I love the shirt you were wearing at the beginning of the video! I skimmed through posted videos and don't think I saw it. I would love to replicate it.
Not sure if you have a video on this already, but I'd love a video where you talk about how you treat and clean your makes. I.e. pre-washing, washing, storing. Especially your wools
Oh dear, you just dragged me down that Edwardian Skirt rabbit hole I dreaded to fall into this autumn. I consider this a valid reason to procrastinate from my day job 😅
I WAS going to make just a simple half circle skirt out of the fabric I recently bought, but then your video came out and at the moment you showed off your wearable mock up, the circle skirt plan went out the window. Both your wearable mockup and final skirt are gorgeous! Wonderful swoosh. I found the pattern drafting instructions decently easy to follow, but was disappointed once I had all the pieces cut out and basted together to find it fit really awkwardly around my stomach. I let it hang on my dress form for a week, putting off figuring out how to adjust the fit. Well, today, I finally figured out how to fix the rather unflattering belly bump... Turns out the dress has a lot more flattering fit when you don't accidentally swap the front and back side gores...🤦Now that extra fabric is where I need it at the hips and I cannot wait to finish sewing it together.
Not you posting this right after I've bought some wonderful wool for a skirt! Yours looks absolutely amazing, and this is a great tutorial for me to follow for mine now!
The problem with the keystone guide is that there are places where it refers to certain measurements without indicating that it means for you to only use half the length instead of the full. I drafted my skirt pattern and my waistcoat. I'm also still wrangling them into actual garments. The keystone gives drafting instructions, but no construction instructions.
I took copious notes in the margins so I could follow what what’s referring what. It’s all there, but with the way it’s written, it can be easy to lose track, especially when one is in the middle of things. I wouldn’t have minded a few more instructions from them. 😄
The keystone guide is insane. I am totally at loss with this. The skirt was pretty straightforward and easy but the waiscoat:..? Plus I have to translate everything. And why the use of inches? Centimetres make so much more sense. *lol*
Congratulations on putting in the pockets before the side seams are closed! You've done well, Love! P.S.: I would like to take a moment to acknowledge your efforts to make your backgrounds look aesthetically pleasing. It's looking great!
Omg. The wool for your skirt, looks a lot like the wool Bernadette Banner used for her Lady Sherlock outfit! Also I think she has the exactly tarleton in her new stock of fabrics. Go take a look! Love it! Beautiful 😍
Woollll ❤️ I have some wool plaid that I thrifted I unfortunately didn’t find out it was wool until after I had washed and dried it so it’s a little scratchy now but I’m still going to use it I’ll just have to line wit with something softer when I do. ❤️ love the skirt both the wearable mock up and the final product are super cute!
I found your channel learnign how to hand sew a button hole (turned out brilliant). I making my first shirt, intended as an undershirt (I hate synthetics). A bit weird that this is my first shirt, but i have successfully made a custom corset (yes. drafted myself). I outgrew it adlkfhslhkf
what a beautiful skirt! love your fabric choice! Maybe I should try to draft a pattern with this instruction too. I made a 7 gore skirt but I needed 4 meters of fabric (barely any scraps left) so your 2 m sound awesome to save money xD (but maybe I still would need much more fabric because of my plus size *sigh*)
The reenactment of finding this beautiful wool was also a perfect reenactment of me when my grandma said 'I have some old fabrics, you can take them' 😂 This skirt has really interesting pattern, I haven't seen something like this, I need to check edwardian patterns more.
Recently I found this exact fabric in a thrift store! It's only 1-1.5 m, but I love it too! I might let you inspire me into making a skirt out of it, but I am afraid I have too little :( I have to take into account that I am tall too.. I prefer a certain minimum length for comfort. So fingers crossed XD I love your video!
Use a contrasting waistband, and if you need additional length doing the same contrasting fabric near the bottoms of the pannels to get that historical striped look? You might be able to get quite a lot of length that way?
@@Lammstrellicon ooh yes! That is a wonderful idea! I can't believe I didn't think of that haha :) Thanks, I am going to try, because it is the perfect fabric for a walking skirt!
17:47 A rotary cutter would be very handy and would combine marking the fabric and cutting it. A sewing class I took taught that method, and once you get used to using it with the gridded mat and the clear ruler, it makes for easy, fast, and very accurate cuts. Do you like them? I loved your reenactment of finding the wool in the bargain bin. 😄 The skirt came out well. It looks really nice on you for both historical and history bounding outfits.
I'm half way through drafting a shirt waist from this book. It is not exactly straightforward, but I recently saw a tip that was to pre-determine all the measurements and put them in the page margin. I wish you showed the drafting process but that's ok.
I couldnt help noticing the blouse you are wearing in this video. I 100% love it! Did you make it yourself? Is there by any chance a pattern and name connected to the blouse you are wearing?
Love this video! I have been really wanting to make a project like this for myself. But I worry I will put in all the effort and it won't last - I am very dull in my wardrobe and wear basics like skirts several times a week. I just don't know if wool is tough enough
Wool can be VERY tough! In fact, for centuries, almost everyone wore wool as clothing, (Excluding linen for undergarments). You should watch Nicole Rudolph's video on wool!
That skirt is beautiful!!! do you think you could do a video or a thing on your instagram or something on the pleating pattern for the skirt though? I've tried making several late victorian/edwardian skirts, and no matter what I do , I can't get the pleating to work right, and yours looks gorgeous!!!
This one was custom made for me! It was made by the Boudoir Key on Etsy :) it's the pink Edwardian corset that has been featured on a couple of different videos
Likely the reason it says "Victorian" techniques is because they were summarizing the entire previous period assessment the new king was in power and publications takes a few years
Yes, I was also going to say- I have vintage Japanese manuals on 'Western' dressmaking. The 1940 edition is all 30s style clothing, the early 30s one has a lot of 1920s fashion plates. Manuals tend to be outpaced by changing fashion, as techniques outlast fashions
Thanks for sharing this lovely make. I am planning on making my first historicalish walking skirt this winter. Does the weight of the skirt drag down at the back in your history bounding version?

Yes! I'm planning to make an Edwardian skirt at some point in the near future and I was looking for a pattern. I'm curious about trying this one!
