If it serves as a bit of hope, Internacional got beaten 2-1 by Guarany at Bagé, the team that came up with Santa Cruz last year.
as a Brazilian I just wanted to correct a few things: 1. The Copa FGF is a state cup which teams with "no calenday" play in (teams not in the 1st to 4th national divisions), so big clubs like Gremio and Internacional do not play. Another one is the Copa Paulista in Sao Paulo 2. I'm pretty sure that the winner of the FGF Cup gets to choose if they want top be in the 4th division or the Copa do Brasil, idk but ik thats how it is with the Copa Paulista. And why did he choose the Copa and not the 4th division? Money! It pays more money, Thus with the money from the Copa do Brasil they were able to invest in getting promoted!

Z, thank you for highlighting this story and just the overall magic of Brazilian football (plus how complicated the pyramid and state tournaments can be). Also, as it's been pointed out by quite a few folks...BraZealand was right there!
I'm brazillian and didnt knew this history. I'm happy you made a video about our country Zealand, this kind of history is incredible. Just a little correction: winning the copa FGF in the third division is a big achievement, but it's not ike Santa Cruz won it beating clubs like Gremio and Inter (the big powers of the state and two of the biggest in the country), because clubs from the first and even second national divisions often don't play this cup because they consider it to be a competition with no importance. The best ranked club Santa Cruz played against in the cup was São José, which was a third national division side at the time. Again, it's still impressive but not as fairy tale as seemed like in the video. It's obviously normal for an person like Zealand to make this confusion, because he dont know the football culture here, and this comment is just a way to give more information to everybody about Santa Cruz and their journey

I'm rooting for that man, and that club. Bravo 👏👏👏
This is the kind of story that we should hear. Its a story of faithfulness, dedication, and perseverance.
He was not only devoted to the team but is devoted to Santa Cruz. Giving everything he has not once but twice!
Not everyone is granted success but those who never give up will find theirs eventually.
seeing these famous stories from my state told by someone from outside my country is an incredible feeling
Next save: Start with Santa Cruz, and win the Libertadores.
This would actually make an incredible Disney movie. Would love to see it. Rags to Riches, feel-good, amazing.
Beautiful i want to cry.
I'm gaúcho, born in Rio Grande do Sul. And gremista, a Grêmio fan. Cool to see this story going internacional.
Everything important is Internacional…
Amazing job on the video. Trully a joy to see storys like that.
i even watched this with tears coming out of ma eyes. i felt touched
I was watching it next to my mom, and I told her "I am controlling myself not to cry". As a brazilian, I obviously had seen that photo at the time, and saw the other one, but I didn't know the in-betweens, didn't know that the team was relegated, that he took loans from everyone... That is magical, truly magical, I love football for that, u cannot explain the feeling, that's unique!
I love you, football ❤
O grêmio e o inter jogam, mas mandam as bases
I love when foreign try to say Brazilian words, I know that Brazilian Portuguese is a weird language and the pronunciation of a lot of it is extremely mean to non speakers, but I like when people at least try.
Yes, you messed up a lot, but that's fine, and I respect you for trying your best.
Wow what a poetic story, makes me quite emotional my new team now along with Arsenal Plymouth argyle . Thank you for covering this story. I haven't been taken back by a story like this before thank you Zealand
As a Brazilian, I gotta admit your research is amazingly precise!

Salute and respect to that man the dedication of being fan
I’m brazilian and got to know this story through your video! Thank you!
First video of yours I've caught and you have a knack for storytelling. Thanks for sharing this tale. Subscribed.
I like to think the staff was sitting in the board room with the away game on like "God I wish someone would just take this nightmare off our hands" and homie flashes across the screen by himself at the game.
Shout out from SANTA CRUZ - RS !!!! This is a true and amazing story ! Tiago is a monster!! GO GRÊMIO!!! GO SANTA CRUZ!! AND GO AVENIDA TOO!!!!
Omg, what a story. It certainly deserves a book or a film of its own. Would be a masterpiece
crazy to see a video by an american, that i imagine has a mainly british viewership, about a small club from my state. good job man! o armandinho é um terror né meu e vamo grêmio
What a beautiful story... someone will make his story into a movie.
Beautiful story! TY!
What a great story and terrific storytelling!
Zealand I’m a lifelong Grêmio fan as it was my father’s Team and his father before him. You’re pronunciation was not spot on but made me a Brazilian from Rio Grande do Sul (the state this all took place) proud ❤️
That’s insane, I’ve actually found out I have ancestors from Santa Cruz do Sul! So this story is awesome for me. I’d like to thank you for being an awesome FM TH-camr, I got into FM last year with FM23 (after watching Ted Lasso and years of wanting more from fifa manager mode) and now I’m currently sitting here at home in Utah, anxiously waiting for FM25 😂 and dreaming of one day hopefully being able to work as a manager of a football club.
Thanks Zealand 💪🏽
As a Brazilian, from Rio de Janeiro, gotta praise your work. I didn't know his history, i just knew he brought a small team from the outskirts of Rio Grande do Sul back to the top state division. Nice work man. This is the 3rd well structured video i've seen in this channel, which means, i must sub.
Cheers!
Z you’re so friggin good when you go down this route. I love you, I love this sport, I love good humans
Really great video, telling the rich story about our small clubs 🇧🇷
Now thats a club diehard. What he did fr his club is nothing short of amazing.
I knew this story, some things are destined to happen, simple as that, cheers from Brazil.
This story is awesome. THIS is why we love football
Love it! Thank you for sharing!
I can tell that there’s going to be a movie about this.
Nothing makes me cry more than sports 😭
Someone should make a movie on this guy. He truly deserves it.

Amazing storytelling and video! As a brazillian I just wanna say that your pronunciation was great, and thanks for the video. Keep up!
I has learned this story from HITC Sevens' video 3 years ago. This video is a reminder of an amazing story and their further successes years after. Thank you!
