Our gas and electric companies have offered rebates for years if you buy energy efficient appliances, AC and furnaces. We've made over $2000 so far. The govt didn't make us do it. We needed new stuff and got it when the old wore out. Works for me cuz we were told last summer our AC needed replaced due to them not making the type of Freon it uses anymore. Hope it lasts one more summer. The offers still good til 2030 and we'll get $1000 if we buy a new one.

Bottom line , the reason why this bank failed based on what I’ve read and heard , is the fact that regulations were removed to keep this from happening.
Ask about which specific regulations would have prevented this bank from failing. I haven't been able to identify any. SVB was under category IV standards following the 2018 change. Those standards require enhanced risk management practices (compared with banks under $100 billion in assets), which include liquidity stress testing and interest rate risk forecasting. It seems clear to me, a risk management professional at a much smaller bank, that SVB failed to follow even basic risk management practices. Like, avoiding mismatched maturities on the liability and asset side of the balance sheet is literally Banking 101, and SVB couldn't manage to do even that. And then their emergency liquidity planning was terrible, too. None of that kind of neglect is allowed *under the current regulations.* Why didn't the Fed step in and put a stop to this months ago? My employer's primary regulator would love (love!) to catch those kinds of errors here. Why was SVB getting a pass? All this to say that, if SVB got a pass to skirt regulations, who's to say they wouldn't have done so under the stronger regs?

Fun fact: European washing machines (at least it the ones I used in Germany for a few decades) are not only more energy efficient, use WAY less water than their US counterparts, but got my laundry actually much cleaner than ANY of the machines I used her in North America (Canada, but the machines are the same as in the US) in the last 13 years... and I've never had experienced a clogged toilet in Germany, either, while we are at it. But what do I know, doing my own laundry for about 35 years already, compared to those Reps (who I'm sure never have filled a washing machine themselves in their whole life, but let their wives do the work for them)... ;-)

I haven't had a Samsung machine here myself yet, but from what I heard from others, some of them seem to have issues (remember the recall of 660,000 machines last year because of overheating/fire hazard problem? But to be fair, those were top loaders, which are garbage anyways, and fell out of fashion in Germany when I was still a small kid already. I can remember my mother still having one of those when I was about 5 years old, which was in the early 70s).

The company I work for of 6k people has employee groups for similarly marginalized groups who advocate with leadership to ensure equity across all groups and to eliminate systemic bias in the corporate world. Similarly, these groups have social events to celebrate their diversity. Like everyone said, that's not "woke," that's basic empathy for marginalized groups. Preface - not GOP voter. But I will say that the frustration is more about people getting TOO woke. As in you become aware of something new, but then try to take action via protests, cancel culture, etc. This is dangerous because information is so divided right now so depending on your source of information the information you got may be reinforcing political agendas rather than entirely based in truth. For example, the people who protest Jordan Peterson events and claim he is anti-LGBTQ. They've clearly only seen cherry picked data and are protesting primarily based on misinformation. You should watch his event at Queen's University for example. The protesting was ridiculous and scary.

Our gas and electric companies have offered rebates for years if you buy energy efficient appliances, AC and furnaces. We've made over $2000 so far. The govt didn't make us do it. We needed new stuff and got it when the old wore out. Works for me cuz we were told last summer our AC needed replaced due to them not making the type of Freon it uses anymore. Hope it lasts one more summer. The offers still good til 2030 and we'll get $1000 if we buy a new one.

Bottom line , the reason why this bank failed based on what I’ve read and heard , is the fact that regulations were removed to keep this from happening.
Ask about which specific regulations would have prevented this bank from failing. I haven't been able to identify any. SVB was under category IV standards following the 2018 change. Those standards require enhanced risk management practices (compared with banks under $100 billion in assets), which include liquidity stress testing and interest rate risk forecasting. It seems clear to me, a risk management professional at a much smaller bank, that SVB failed to follow even basic risk management practices. Like, avoiding mismatched maturities on the liability and asset side of the balance sheet is literally Banking 101, and SVB couldn't manage to do even that. And then their emergency liquidity planning was terrible, too. None of that kind of neglect is allowed *under the current regulations.* Why didn't the Fed step in and put a stop to this months ago? My employer's primary regulator would love (love!) to catch those kinds of errors here. Why was SVB getting a pass?
All this to say that, if SVB got a pass to skirt regulations, who's to say they wouldn't have done so under the stronger regs?

Fun fact: European washing machines (at least it the ones I used in Germany for a few decades) are not only more energy efficient, use WAY less water than their US counterparts, but got my laundry actually much cleaner than ANY of the machines I used her in North America (Canada, but the machines are the same as in the US) in the last 13 years... and I've never had experienced a clogged toilet in Germany, either, while we are at it.
But what do I know, doing my own laundry for about 35 years already, compared to those Reps (who I'm sure never have filled a washing machine themselves in their whole life, but let their wives do the work for them)... ;-)

I haven't had a Samsung machine here myself yet, but from what I heard from others, some of them seem to have issues (remember the recall of 660,000 machines last year because of overheating/fire hazard problem? But to be fair, those were top loaders, which are garbage anyways, and fell out of fashion in Germany when I was still a small kid already. I can remember my mother still having one of those when I was about 5 years old, which was in the early 70s).

The company I work for of 6k people has employee groups for similarly marginalized groups who advocate with leadership to ensure equity across all groups and to eliminate systemic bias in the corporate world. Similarly, these groups have social events to celebrate their diversity. Like everyone said, that's not "woke," that's basic empathy for marginalized groups. And if that bothers you, and if you think that played a bigger part in the collapse of a bank more than deregulation, then I feel like it says more about you than you might realize.

I consider myself an “Independent” and agree with some views from both sides of the aisle; that’s why I watch both things such as this and will listen to clips from Hannity/Carlson, etc just to hear what both sides are saying - but I have to say, I’ve moved far more left from the middle over the last 7-8 years than I ever thought I would. The right just seems more laughable to me with each passing week with members like MTG, Boebert, and I live in FL so I won’t even start on Ron and his black Porsche he used to park in the handicapped spot next to the door when his office was in the building next to mine in my home city before he became Governor.

It's being aware of issues *and wanting to do something about it*. There are lots of people in this country who are aware of the issues facing the populous, but want everything to remain the same, usually because they're benefitting from the current system.
Preface - not GOP voter. But I will say that the frustration is more about people getting TOO woke. As in you become aware of something new, but then try to take action via protests, cancel culture, etc. This is dangerous because information is so divided right now so depending on your source of information the information you got may be reinforcing political agendas rather than entirely based in truth. For example, the people who protest Jordan Peterson events and claim he is anti-LGBTQ. They've clearly only seen cherry picked data and are protesting primarily based on misinformation. You should watch his event at Queen's University for example. The protesting was ridiculous and scary.
