The bank crisis isn't over yet, and experienced individuals know credit crises don't end quickly. Some find it amusing that some think it's resolved, but in reality, we're headed for a major economic downturn due to this credit contraction.
After the '08 financial crisis, I've learned not to trust corporations. Since 2020, I've been investing with a financial advisor and have had no major losses, so I'm not going back to relying solely on banks.
Many overlook that banks are profit-driven businesses. I don't trust keeping a large sum in a bank, instead, I invest with guidance, enjoy the benefits, and save for retirement.
How do I get involved in this? I am excited to take part because I genuinely want to build a stable financial future. Who is the main inspiration behind your accomplishments?

I looked up her profile online since I was curious. I saw her website, her credentials, and how tight she came across. At first, I thought this was overblown nonsense.
Remember, they freaked out just the same over light bulb efficiency standards, fearmongering over "pig tail lightbulbs" and "waiting 15 seconds for your lights to turn on", and now they never even give it a second thought because it was always not only a false narrative but an incredibly stupid one. They fight against any change, literally anything towards progress.
Also: If your kid can't tell he's got conditioner in his hair, then he's special needs... it's got nothing to do with the low flow shower head.

I don’t know the people on the board of SVB but as an ex bank employee, I would be pissed to be told repeatedly by Fox that I wasn’t smart enough to be in that position because I was a woman or a Person of Colour
The Wall Street Journal wrote an article saying exactly that...including if it was an all white men board, this most likely wouldn't have happened.

Bottom line , the reason why this bank failed based on what I’ve read and heard , is the fact that regulations were removed to keep this from happening.
Ask about which specific regulations would have prevented this bank from failing. I haven't been able to identify any. SVB was under category IV standards following the 2018 change. Those standards require enhanced risk management practices (compared with banks under $100 billion in assets), which include liquidity stress testing and interest rate risk forecasting. It seems clear to me, a risk management professional at a much smaller bank, that SVB failed to follow even basic risk management practices. Like, avoiding mismatched maturities on the liability and asset side of the balance sheet is literally Banking 101, and SVB couldn't manage to do even that. And then their emergency liquidity planning was terrible, too. None of that kind of neglect is allowed *under the current regulations.* Why didn't the Fed step in and put a stop to this months ago? My employer's primary regulator would love (love!) to catch those kinds of errors here. Why was SVB getting a pass?
All this to say that, if SVB got a pass to skirt regulations, who's to say they wouldn't have done so under the stronger regs?

In the end high inflation reduced the value of long-term government bonds in which SVB had parked the lion's share of their assets, leaving them with very limited capital reserves and insufficient liquidity to sustain a run on deposits, which further eroded depositors' confidence which spiralled into a classic, banal bank run

I suspect the reason they’ve locked onto “woke” is because it’s only one word and that makes it a lot easier for their audience to remember. For instance “critical race theory” is three words. That’s two words too many.

@Maimonides that's just part of celebrating diversity of traditionally disenfranchised and marginalized employee groups. The company I work for of 6k people has employee groups for similarly marginalized groups who advocate with leadership to ensure equity across all groups and to eliminate systemic bias in the corporate world. Similarly, these groups have social events to celebrate their diversity. Like everyone said, that's not "woke," that's basic empathy for marginalized groups. And if that bothers you, and if you think that played a bigger part in the collapse of a bank more than deregulation, then I feel like it says more about you than you might realize.

Our gas and electric companies have offered rebates for years if you buy energy efficient appliances, AC and furnaces. We've made over $2000 so far. The govt didn't make us do it. We needed new stuff and got it when the old wore out. Works for me cuz we were told last summer our AC needed replaced due to them not making the type of Freon it uses anymore. Hope it lasts one more summer. The offers still good til 2030 and we'll get $1000 if we buy a new one.

Fun fact: European washing machines (at least it the ones I used in Germany for a few decades) are not only more energy efficient, use WAY less water than their US counterparts, but got my laundry actually much cleaner than ANY of the machines I used her in North America (Canada, but the machines are the same as in the US) in the last 13 years... and I've never had experienced a clogged toilet in Germany, either, while we are at it.
But what do I know, doing my own laundry for about 35 years already, compared to those Reps (who I'm sure never have filled a washing machine themselves in their whole life, but let their wives do the work for them)... ;-)
I have a Samsung. It has 10 different settings for the water level.
@@lawrencedoliveiro9104 The latest one I bought here in Canada is a front loader Whirlpool HE one - that one gets at least most of my laundry clean, but it's still not half as good as the Miele or Bosch ones I used in Germany (and it's just a tiny bit worse than the cheap brand I had before for some years in Germany - no idea if it was German, French, or Italian, but it was manufactured in Europe - which btw did cost me less than half of what this Whirlpool one cost me).
I haven't had a Samsung machine here myself yet, but from what I heard from others, some of them seem to have issues (remember the recall of 660,000 machines last year because of overheating/fire hazard problem? But to be fair, those were top loaders, which are garbage anyways, and fell out of fashion in Germany when I was still a small kid already. I can remember my mother still having one of those when I was about 5 years old, which was in the early 70s).

I rent an apartment without an energy efficient washer or dryer and it takes me 3 hours to get it dried. When I visit my dad, I get more laundry per load and half the drying time. It’s not even anecdotally correct.

The fact they are against products being more efficient makes it seem like they're against the innovation they always claim our current system is for.
Because I have experimented myself, doing my dishes by hand, saved $10 on electricity and $5 on water, in a month. I live d alone at that time. Imagine the money saved in a family unit. I also ran the water I do, to do dishes, and it doesn’t fill the whole sink with water. That said, you do not need to fill a double bowl sink with one soapy and the other clean, to wash your dishes efficiently. A gas stove saves $5 on range, and $10 on oven, given you actually cook home made food. Not to mention the food cooks and tastes more evenly. Just sayin’. I’d rather cook on a camp fire than an electric range and oven. To me, a dishwasher is a glorified drying rack.
