They've been around for almost 70 years, they are a billion-dollar corp for a reason. As they expand and try to saturate the market with their brand, they have created an innovation operation centres and R & D departments. In there, they develop new menu items, testing, new work methods, find faults and increase efficiencies to hasten service to further improve their bottom line. You know, to keep up with the term "Fast" food as their known for.
its because they want the machines to do most of the work for the operators, i wouldnt even call them cooks, they are only trained to put the right ingredients in the right machines and the right order

Yup, especially when you have guys who pumps out two shots of the sauce and hurriedly close it. I don't understand how people mess it up so badly. Everything is prepared so it's quick and efficient, lined up from right to left. This place looks completely different from the one I worked in, then again I hail from Canada.
The Filet-o-Fish is amazing and, unlike most, I ordered it quite often. I liked to personalize it with double fish and extra sauce. ❤️ Unfortunately, during the pandemic, they took the fish sandwich off the menu in my country (Poland) and so far it hasn't returned. I miss it. 😥

Just reminds me of the whole way you'd run through the motions of working food service. Task after task, these meals need to get out, and you find the best ways to make it work as smoothly as possible.
The filet o fish is probably the only thing I ever eat from McDonalds. It's not like you can really go wrong with it. It's just fried Alaskan Pollock with cheese, two pieces of bread, and some tartar sauce.
Ah yes, but so much can go wrong: The fish burgers need to be fried correctly then heat and hold at the right temp for the no longer than a certain amount of time; buns need to be steamed at the right temp and not go soggy; boxing the buns without touching them means the buns don't get crushed or dimpled; half a slice of cheese... 🤦♀yes, this is a regular issue of complaint still not resolved, but something to do with the balance of the sandwhich - I guess that's why the buger buns keep misaligning in the box 😜; assembly in the correct order - a) sauce the top bun, 1 squeeze only; b) bottom bun, cheese, fish burger from the holding tray, top bun with sauce; I do prefer the blue paper wrappers though...
People “annoyed” with the half slice of cheese……… they literally did taste testings and MOST people said it was too much….. calm down….. they’re seriously only doing half of a slice because customers preferred that…….. for real……. That’s what we like as a whole….. ask for extra cheese…. I know I always ask for extra sauce (most don’t)…… relax, y’all
The better question is how the eff they decided to mix fish and fucking CHEESE... When you bake or grill fish and home, pretty sure most recipes don't ask for cheese to go with it...

there should be a chopped onion dispenser like you have for the ketchup and mustard so you could distribute the onions evenly instead of there being heavy concentration at the center.

Having worked at a mdconalds myself, make sure you ask for the filets fresh. Depending on how lazy the staff are when you decide to get one, they will be sitting in that heating cabinet for over an hour.

This isn’t how we do it in Aus, if they ask extra it’s either half on the top and bottom or a full slice on top, I mostly put a full slice on anyways tho cause who cares 🤷♂️
As someone who used to work in fast food, I find these videos so entertaining. It gives people an idea of what actually happens behind the scenes and it makes them appreciate just how hard those jobs are

i also work at mcdonals but in Peru... curious things 1. the way you wrap the burgers its not "correct " here lol. 2.there is more space to put lettuce ,here is smaller in rush hours people loose time resupplying 3. Pickles dont have excessive "juice " in my opinion 4. big mac sauce , Mayonnaise dispensers are easier to use and has less weigth comparing to my country .

Yes. Filet O' Fish is the only burger where the buns were steamed. The rest are all toasted. You can request for steamed buns btw. No options for Big Macs though.
I work at McDonald's in Italy and I love watching your videos. We kinda work in an all different way and our burgers are way different from yours! I like working here, bad thing is that here they don't do contracts of indefinite duration but just for 2 to 6 months each time..
When I lived in Mo, had a store there that would occasionally get in packs of those exact filets. They would hide them under the other breaded stuff. If I was lucky enough to snag one, we'd had several weeks of homemade filet-of-fish whenever we wanted.
One of the reasons that I heard as to why it is always broken is because it has an extensive cleaning process that takes 30 mins. This usually leads to minimum wage workers saying its broken as that would be easier to say instead of its currently being cleaned. The currently being cleaned dialogue would raise questions as to why it is being cleaned in the middle of a rush and would cause all sorts of nightmares a minimum wage employee does not want to deal with. And when it is truly genuinely broken, its because the damn machine is extremely complex in order to impress shareholders. This complexity makes it so that in the event it breaks, only the producers of the machine know how to fix it. This leads to days on end waiting for a mechanic who knows how to correctly fix the machine.

I eat filet o fish pretty often, and I gotta say I know at least the mcdonalds I go to doesn't prepare it like this, because I've had multiple times where the cheese slice is half outside the bun (one time I even had it melted on top of the bun).
When I was young my dad would take us every Sunday. For Filets O fish, fries and a shake. They were under a buck and you got the whole cheese. Now it's like 1/3 of a hour work. Back then it was like 1/6 of a hour work $6 per hour. Now that's inflation!
Seeing the ruthless efficiency with which the entire menu appears to be prepared, I can now understand the discontinuation of the Artisan Burgers project... It does however remain a damned shame that the only burger I ever willingly got mustard on has been sent to the Shadow Realm...
I do wish McDonald's would bring back the Artisan burgers. The problem with other burger joints is they don't cook the meat consistently well-done and I don't want to take chances with e-coli.

That half piece of cheese pissed me off so much, McDonalds raising prices and giving the customer less food. I can buy Kraft cheese, burger buns, tarter sauce and a box of fish breaded and squared for about $15 bucks and make 6 to 8 fish filets at home for the whole fam to have two sandwiches each.
Those sauce guns are a real bitch to put together too. Might be a store protocol, but the filet actually goes on the top bun in the tartar, then you'd move the cheese on top and then close the box.
My local McDs must have a different tartar sauce dispenser because I have never received that much. Ever! Most times it's hard to tell it's even on there!!
Dang, how interesting. When I get a McD fish sandwich I have to lay a towel down to catch all the excess tartar sauce. This is a sandwich I cannot eat in the car (will require detailing). I request "light on the tartar" but usually get a soaking.
I love your videos so much. There is something very calming about them. Are you required to flip the buns into the Filet O Fish box in that way? It seems like such a weird added step if you are forced to do it
They're not being cheap with it, that's just how it's been for over 50 years with the fillet of fish because it's how it's intended to taste and with the vast majority of burgers using the full slice it would make pretty much no difference to profits. They just don't want it to overwhelm the fish patty, having cheese on it at all is starting to take away from it.
Every day these huge machines get taken into the back, full of grease and salt, into huge sinks in the back - I remember standing for 2-3 hours at a time washing them - my entire fingernail came off once
It depends on how much rent is where you live and if you are working for corporate or independent franchise. A lot of the independent are so short staffed and deal with high schoolers calling off from work that they’re happy to bring on and give overtime to adult workers in their 30’s, 40’s etc. but beware of people that promise full time and constantly bounce you between 30-34 hours. It won’t be enough
what's discouraging is that only one set of tongs is used to grab everything. if someone wanted fish, the tongs used to grab the fish was used to grab beef just two seconds ago. i don't want beef slime on my fish sandwich.

the steamer is ridiculously hot, both the plate and the buns are way too hot to just grab out immediately (source: worked there last year)

When I was young my dad would take us every Sunday. For Filets O fish, fries and a shake. They were under a buck and you got the whole cheese. Now it's like 1/3 of a hour work. Back then it was like 1/6 of a hour work $6 per hour. Now that's inflation!

Seeing the ruthless efficiency with which the entire menu appears to be prepared, I can now understand the discontinuation of the Artisan Burgers project... It does however remain a damned shame that the only burger I ever willingly got mustard on has been sent to the Shadow Realm...
I do wish McDonald's would bring back the Artisan burgers. The problem with other burger joints is they don't cook the meat consistently well-done and I don't want to take chances with e-coli.

That half piece of cheese pissed me off so much, McDonalds raising prices and giving the customer less food. I can buy Kraft cheese, burger buns, tarter sauce and a box of fish breaded and squared for about $15 bucks and make 6 to 8 fish filets at home for the whole fam to have two sandwiches each.
They use half a slice because it tastes better. If it was a whole slice, you would only taste cheese and no fish.

Those sauce guns are a real bitch to put together too. Might be a store protocol, but the filet actually goes on the top bun in the tartar, then you'd move the cheese on top and then close the box.
My local McDs must have a different tartar sauce dispenser because I have never received that much. Ever! Most times it's hard to tell it's even on there!!
Dang, how interesting. When I get a McD fish sandwich I have to lay a towel down to catch all the excess tartar sauce. This is a sandwich I cannot eat in the car (will require detailing).
I request "light on the tartar" but usually get a soaking.

They're not being cheap with it, that's just how it's been for over 50 years with the fillet of fish because it's how it's intended to taste and with the vast majority of burgers using the full slice it would make pretty much no difference to profits. They just don't want it to overwhelm the fish patty, having cheese on it at all is starting to take away from it.

at our spot we clean everything daily, from 9 we usually stay till 10/10:30 and we will clean everything including the whole lobby kitchen and toilets

Every day these huge machines get taken into the back, full of grease and salt, into huge sinks in the back - I remember standing for 2-3 hours at a time washing them - my entire fingernail came off once

It depends on how much rent is where you live and if you are working for corporate or independent franchise. A lot of the independent are so short staffed and deal with high schoolers calling off from work that they’re happy to bring on and give overtime to adult workers in their 30’s, 40’s etc. but beware of people that promise full time and constantly bounce you between 30-34 hours. It won’t be enough
