- Today we're playing with the Yu-Gi-Oh Tactical Try decks from Japan. These are preconstucted decks meant to be playable right out of the box, modeled after real competitive decks! They're also meant to work as a bridge between paper play and Master Duel. We've got the Cyber Dragon and Eldlich ones, but we'll also be using the Evil Twin one in another video!

to be fair, 3 structure decks is STILL a great deal to often times get 3 of multiple staples and a pretty functional deck to play for around 30 dollar. I as magic player shudder at our products where you get asolutly no staple cards and barely functional piles sold as "Starter" decks. Of course these OCG Decks are madness for most cardgames regarding the value you get there. The best thing is that you can actually each buy just one and have really GOOD duels gameplaywise.

Ya know, I remember watching Different FIght (great TH-camr, lives in Japan, covers Vanguard mainly) cover card game sales over the previous summer, and it cannot be understated how much this product juiced sales of Yu-Gi-Oh in Japan. It was the perfect pairing when big streamers like Pekora and Subaru started playing Yi-Gi-Oh (they started playing it again recently and Konami anounced new TT decks, which is either sponsoring, or just being smart).
Now I like to say us fans shouldn't be the ones worrying about how to sell the game, but even I can't help but think what if. In this case, what if Konami TCG not only sold these, but did advertisments with Sykunno, Fuslie, Blaustoise, Moist Critical, and all those other Yu-Gi-Oh playing vtubers as a way to say "Look how easy it is to pick up and lay this fun game" Best of all these 3 decks all play very differently than one another, so anyone can find a playstyle they like.
Unfortunately, that's the OCG mindset. There's so many cardgames you need to make your game look good value, and be easy to enter. The TCG's approach is to harpoon the whales. Focus on the small group of super dedicated players and milk them dry. Lock really good cards behind high rarity, because the competitive players will pay for them because they have to. Don't grow the game, just play safe and get blood from stones.
(sorry to sound grim, I love tis game, but Yu-Gi-Oh OCG may be the best cardgame ever, while playing Yu-Gi-Oh TCG makes me feel like a second class citizen... I wish our cards had the same print quality as OCG...)
When you mention the amount of card games in Japan and the fact Konami has maintained both the OCG in 2nd, only behind Pokemon, and Rush in the top 10 for years, it really just shows how much the TCG exists, like you said, solely to harpoon the whales

Fun video! Gives me a lot of excitement when I see these duel videos come up. Great to see you guys still finding new ways to spice up the casual content with curve balls like the Japanese.
I'd try the cyber dragons, since I've already been eyeing them
Grew up playing the TCG playground style and I haven’t played the physical game in almost 20 years. I now live in OCG territory and had no idea that these starter decks existed. Your video inspired me to pick up the Eldlich and Evil Twins decks. It was so fun to open up, sleeve the cards and do some practice hands. As fun/convenient as Master Duel is, nothing beats holding and shuffling cards with your hands.
It’s also awesome how they come with staple hand traps and extra deck stuff as seen in the video. The Evil Twins deck comes with Ash, Imperm, Crossout, Called by the Grave, Maxx, u C, Zeus, Knightmare Unicorn and Accesscode. So many things I use in other decks. Since I’m used to master duel, it was so exciting to be handed so many “UR’s” for ~$10 😂
I might end up getting the Cyber Dragon deck along with the Exosister and Rescue Ace decks when they come out later this year
TL;DR: this video got me back into physical yugioh after nearly two decades

As someone who moved to Asia and still collecting tcg (and ocg English), I do look with envy at the OCG sets.

Yeah, awesome to see these exotic decks - duels! I guess, that these were directly in the Singleplayer of Master Duel.
It could be fun to play whichever one of these is the best against a real meta deck from the time period of the try deck. Maybe even like, 5 games, just to see how well it can compete
The Eldlich deck is almost exactly what I play most on Master Duel. But I don't run floodgates except Zombie World and I run a bigger Zombie World package.
omg I was just hoping you'd play these tactical try decks. Konami of Japan keeps such good care of their player base I actually feel like an unwanted middle child...

fun fact OCG non japan player also has to play like this (cannot read card because it's in japanese) most of the time so people need to remember card effect and open phone to translate sometimes, recently there's asian OCG version but they are late by 1-2 set
People who play Yu-Gi-Oh outside Japan are mostly already had at least a little fluency in Japanese, Yu-Gi-Oh target audience are always otaku at heart and we doesn't just play Yu-Gi-Oh we play other games like union arena etc as well even if they are Japanese only

I'd love to see more themed decks like these where they are modern styled but easy to follow. There's some other decks in the same vein that are mostly updated classics like skull servants, flame swordsman, six Sam ect
They're not winning tournaments but fun to play and would be good to see you guys build more decks too

OCG JP player here, just bought evil twin with fiendsmith upgrade. It's already pretty decent competitive deck with low budget LOL

I’m a combo player so I’d choose evil twin. It’s comboish, but I really like the selection. Mid range, combo and control

You can only summon Eldlich in defense position with the effect of Black Awakening
malding so hard because we'll never get things like this in the tcg

You have to summon in Defense to activate Black Eldlixir. So around 10:30 Eldlich should not be able to attack as he is in Defense.

I used to play both Eldlich and Cyber Dragon. I understand Paul's point of normally going second, but knowing my opponent had Eldlich I would have chosen to go first before that back row could be set up.

If I had to pick out of the three, I would probably get the cyber dragon one even though I already have a cyber dragon deck, but that is just too many staples to pass up
Honestly Konami could just release like 4 Tactical in English but have it be a random which one you get to attract newer players. If they wanted to sell more you give each of them an extra card that can be collectors rare of a staple card. Then to encourage people buying cases, make it so one of those collector rares is an alt art for that decks boss. That way you could flood the market with a bunch of cheap decks from people buying cases to get a play sets of alt arts for some deck.

Those Japanese decks are pretty cool but I wish they would add meta reprints to structure decks in the future! Labrynth with a good Extra Deck, Tearlaments, and maybe even Snake-eyes or Tenpai would be amazing to see get turned into a structure deck!

theres no AE ver tactical try deck
These decks don't have an Asian-English version. Asian-English do have decks similar to this, called Duel-Ignition decks. Only 2 are available right now, one is for HERO, the other is Swordsoul.
TT Decks doesn't have Asia-English unfortunately, but there's the ignition decks as one of the replies said

how about duel ignition starter deck that has been released for asian english region?, we have hero and swordsoul and its written in english so you dont have to forgot the effect like you did with cyberdark realm effect to do aditional normal summon

Why not replace the cards from the try deck with the english copies after opening? Unless one of the points is to play in Japanese to test your memory of the cards
Also brings back some memories. A few years ago, a friend and I went back to yugioh and I picked up live twins and he picked up eldlich. Purely because they were pretty easy and decent enough to get a few wins. Was cool to watch!
I know you guys like opening the product and such but you could do this on master duel for free XD. That aside, its really dumb they didnt find a way to convert these decks to the TCG, I guess because they didnt want to reprint good cards too soon lol. We really needed entry level products this last year, and sadly Im really worried about Blue-Eyes being scalped at this point. hopefully Konami prints the crap out of that Structure. I also hope they make other new Structures soon as well.
