      So true, I was 30 though. I asked for a deployment to have experience as a E-4/5 before I would come home and go accelerated OCS. Came home and commissioned then asked for another deployment to AFG that time.
      So many of them think respect is given, not earned. They have it ass backwards.

I actually learned a lot of that back in my college years when I was going to be commissioned as an Army officer through ROTC (which didn't work out in the end), so I used a lot of the skills I was taught in my early years to my stage as an older man going through Air Force OTS.

      @@jeremywhittington7605 lol that I could. Being prior and listed for quite a few years, are used to teach other enlisted and officers as well as cadets when we went through OCS. It’s so funny that it is true but we’ve gone so far away from using these basic instruments to everything being computer, PowerPoint, GPS etc. that people lose the basic math reading skills.

    When I was in the Marines in the 80s I was a Sgt and it was my turn to escort the Lt around and inspect the barracks on Friday morning. When we were going to transit barracks the SGTMAJ told me there is a First Sergeant in a particular room and we are to skip that room. The SGTMAJ said he was a friend of his that goes back to Vietnam. Well Lt decided to go in. I advised him what SGTMAJ said but he went in anyway. He failed the room. A pizza box on the table. I once again advised him what SGTMAJ said. He said fail this room. I turned in the forms and later that day I was called to HQ. The SGTMAJ face was purple with anger. He tore into me. I explained what happen and he said …Fuck! Get out. From what I was told the SGTMAJ and the Lt ….had words…firm ones…

      @@thodorisevangelakos From what my girlfriend said, (she was admin in S1) SGTMAJ asked the Lt if a relayed his orders to him. He said Yes but he is the one to make that determination. SGTMAJ said he was absolutely incorrect. Then she said this First Sergeant walked into S1 in his alphas and his ribbon stack was huge. He walked in to the SGTMAJ office and she heard the 1rst Sgt say “Hey Lt, you wanna see me” The Lt said something that she couldn’t make out and heard the SGTMAJ say “Outstanding, I knew it was a mistake”

    I do believe this is the first place where the calling of rank is adhered to. Most others (TV, movies) throw Marines into same generic "Sergeant" when addressing rank. All from E6 on up are addressed by their specific rank in the Marines. Good stuff!

    The most decorated soldier of ww2 was only about 18 when he earned his battlefield commission and retired from the national guard as a major without a high school diploma. Knowledge doesn’t make you a good soldier or leader it’s something that is in your personality some people just aren’t meant to be leaders

      We taped ours to a howitzer tube and elevated it. He did challenge us saying that he knew what we did to boots and we didn't have the balls. He was a mustang (former corporal) and took off his rank saying we couldn't take him, so it was on. The dog pile was epic, and he fought like a mother, and I'll give him credit for taking his licks like everyone else. Ended up being a really good officer.

      @@tsmitz8184 I was an 11B in a Mountain unit, and it's definitely not an exclusively Airborne thing; we used 'cherry' for anyone who hadn't completed at least one deployment. 'Slick sleeve' was a similar term, and 'Fuzzy' was slang for an E-1. 'Boot' is more of a Marine term, although I can understand if it crossed over into some parts of the Army.

    They don't show the part after where the Joes get put on sh*t burning detail and then get some wierd cancer 20 years later and then drink bad water at LeJune and end up in a wheel chair w/oxygen at age 50.
