  • DO NOT Spend $120 a year. In this video, I look at the functionality now available via the Ancestry.com PRO TOOLS extension. We'll explore the features it brings to the table, assess if its features are available elsewhere, evaluate whether it justifies its price tag, and discuss the optimal strategy for integrating PRO TOOLS into your genealogy research.

I agree with you. They shouldn't be charging this. They aren't ProTools. They are for NON-pros. As a non-pro, I can attest to this.

Thanks for watching - yes it really is a rip-off when most of the functionality is available for free elsewhere.

@@Beaumont-Genealogy the biggest problem I see with ProTools is that it gives you a reading number. And it may not even be correct either. But if you take your time and write down, everybody’s name on a shepherd shit of paper and goes through those senses as they grow up, it should all fall in line with

The price for subscription to ancestry is already high. These "pro" tools should be included in that price!

Nice clear & concise advice. I thought by your accent you were UK based but it would seem not 😢😢

Thanks - Expat Brit living in Florida. Mentally I am UK based a lot of the time.

Thank you from Texas. Exactly the info for which I was looking.
Waiting for the day when Ancestry separates DNA matches by grandparents. Would be so helpful for those with endogamy and unknown ancestors.

The “matches of matches” in the “pro tools”could potentially be helpful for that in that you could generate two groups that are related to you but not to each other.

Yes, thank you, I just got Pro Tools today, but haven't had a chance to try it out. To complicate things, my ancestor was an illegitimate orphan. Headache deluxe trying to figure from whom he came!

Yes, the addition of the Matches of Matches is great, but I still think these are "normal" upgrades to the software that should be included in the subscription.

@@Beaumont-Genealogy Oh, I fully agree. The service is already way too expensive. And it is still missing a real chromosome browser.

    Do NOT Subscribe to Ancestry.

If you subscribe to Ancestry you get access to a whole range of database records and shared matches which don't exist elsewhere. I am still undecided, however, about the Pro Tools. I am a professional genealogist and Ancestry is the best provider for me.

    • @Beaumont-Genealogy

Every decision to subscribe to any service involves a cost-benefit analysis. Certainly, Ancestry has records that are simply not available elsewhere, and many (most) genealogists simply have to access Ancestry's catalog. In my opinion, Pro Tools should be included in the subscription cost. It is certainly not worth the cost if you pay monthly.
