I really want to make sure that you are aware of the fact that you can share this information, knowing that you don’t have to and can charge people because of your credentials and skills of being a professional… please know that it is not going unnoticed and that it is so appreciated. We are in a time where people are not honest, scams and theft are a serious issue and to have someone who shares this knowledge because they are passionate about what they do and want to help others is a beautiful thing. Thank you for all your hard work in sharing your incredible knowledge about this.
A few months ago I made my trees private on Ancestry. I started to receive messages on Ancestry from "men" with different names, three in total within a week. They just wrote Hi, how are you?. I called Ancestry who they had no idea who these different men were. Telling me to "just ignore them". I was creeped out. Thinking of all the information available made me feel ill. Be careful out there.
You are very kind. But in fairness this draws people to my coaching and website. It’s a good mix for me because it allows me to share information freely so people can learn and not have to pay, and help those who do want paid assistance find me.
@@lionheart830 have you recently posted in the community about anyone? I had posted about trying to find someone to help break down my brick wall, assuming that it was only shared with family. I received 2 private messages and I thought it was relatives. It was that after a certain time frame, Ancestry will push it into the feed of all users and that was how they found me to message me. It was very creepy and I don’t mess around with the idea of having someone who could see my private information
Using your strategies today I found an image of a Virginia marriage document from 1831 that verified the name of the bride’s father. I also found a document that verified that a third great grandfather was born in Dutchess County, New York in 1807. Up to now that had been a hypothesis. It also mentioned where he was residing on June 30, 1886. Very exciting and useful information.
"It doesn't get any better than that." Amen sister! new subscriber here. Thank you for your channel! (also--I love your mimi quote on the shelf behind you!!) Cheers!
Thank you for this very helpful advice. We are having to put the work in manually rather than getting them on ancestry any more despite the fact that we surely previously paid for them in our fees. We should all be asking ancestry why we don’t have easy access to these records any more.
It would be interesting to find out if there has been a change in image availability or if they are just putting more records up that are indexed only.
Getting an image is so important to verify indexing. I can’t even begin to tell you how many times I’ve found indexing mistakes and corrected them, or found more information on the image. Family Search seems to be reducing access to images when you review a record hint, which I find unfortunate.
@@AncestryAimee Family Search more often now sends you to a pay site for images, like Ancestry or Find My Past than they used to. Often with census records. Blackstone owns Ancestry and Ancestry now owns Find A Grave. I really dislike Blackstone being involved in genealogy.
Thank you SO MUCH! I have been frustrated over this! When I first researched something, the image was there and it solved one family mystery. BUT when I went back to it, it was gone. You have just solved another mystery... greatly appreciated!
I was just doing some research and decided to do something different. I was looking for some extended family (my 2x great grandfather’s sister) and this is not a family line of Acadian descent, the surname is Hanks. It is the same family line as Abraham Lincoln’s mother, Lucy Hanks. While looking for this person, it doesn’t pull up mostly Louisiana records and I was able to see records from other states. I was surprised by how much easier the records were to read and how it’s so fascinating to see Wills and probate records. My grandparents are the first generation that was able to get an education and my parents are the first ones that their native language was English. My great grandparents and beyond were never able to attend school and never knew how to speak English, so I am not used to being able to look at records and understand what they are saying. I have heard you comment about how you can learn a lot from the wills and probate records and I felt like I was lacking in my ability to understand how to read them properly. But it’s so different than other places and I have to be more easy on myself
I'm pretty sure I was subscribed to your channel since I watch it all the of time but I just had to resubscribe. I don't think I've had that happen before. But then, I could be wrong. lol Thanks for always having such good content!
Sometimes my helps apply but I am a U.S. based researcher. My videos on using FamilySearch and Ancestry and other platforms apply to anyone. Some of the sites I speak of are international. I do have some videos on Irish research. But because I’m familiar with U.S. records I tend to go to those. Sorry!!
The trees you create and the trees shared with you are in a slightly different place. Go to your trees at top left and click "create and manage trees" and then in the top middle "trees shared with me."
My mothers father was born out of wedlock. There is no birth certificate available. How would I go about finding who his biological father. A very well kept secret. He was born in 1906 but doesn't show up in any census until 1920. He was raised with his mothers family as a sibling. He had two aunts around his age. His mother married when he was 6 and he took the last name of the man she married. Help.
DNA testing. If your grandpa is still alive have him test - autosomal - do it on Ancestry. If not have your mom do that. If he has a male descendant (does your mom have brothers?) have someone do a YDNA test - has to be a male descendant. I have a DNA playlist. You can check out some videos there for more info.

I haven’t noticed a change. That’s interesting. I notice it often surrounds particular states or counties.

@pamela5568 I haven’t seen that on FS. Good to know. Thanks for sharing. I see changes in Ancestry since they were purchased too.
Agreed. Many of the documents I attached to my tree in the past have recently gone blank.
Sensorship and propaganda may have taken hold sadly.
Excellent information! Thanks, Aimee!
So glad it's helpful!
@@AncestryAimee Thanks so much I used the tip and even found some index records I need to try to look at the records.

It seems that a lot of records I used to be able to attach to my tree have become unavailable.
Can you identify which ones? I’d be interested to know.

What do you do if the source citation if it doesn’t have a URL?
I search for other clues in the record to Google it.

Encouraging. Needed a wake up call to try a little bit harder.
Yeah! Glad to hear it.
WOW!!!
Thanks!
The background music killed this video for me. I'm here to learn something, not attend a music gig! 33 seconds was more than enough noise for me.
Thanks for letting me know your thoughts.
Now I can get more proof of my Great Grandmother x3 birth!
Good luck!!
Reminder also that Ancestry indexing is way too often sloppy and wrong
True!
