I really like this journalist. She seems to be very open about lots of things, knowledgeable, and respectful. In all the videos I've seen of her she is asking the right questions and representing different groups of people so respectfully. I also love how she interacts with the people and gets to know them on a higher level.

We used to have this concept of third sex in the Philippines too, before colonial era. It was probably influenced by this hindu concept. They were called "babaylan". Well, it is debatable whether babaylans are actually female priestess, but it is widely known that there are babaylans who are not male nor female and they hold a special role in pre-hispanic Philippine society as shamans or priestesses who blesses people. When the Spaniards came, they banned such things as they spread Christianity over the islands, and persecuted those babaylans because it is seen as sinful in Christian point of view.
Philipinos are austronesian and have similarities in indigenous culture with other Malaysians and Indonesians.... for example in Sabah the Kadazan have High Priestesses known as Bobohozan which function similarly to Babaylan (altho rarely are they trans they’re def always women) meanwhile the Bugis in Sulawesi have the Bissu which are Intersex priests (Bissu are not trans but they also have trans men and women as 3rd and 4th gender known as calalai and calabai) and then Pacific Islanders who are also austronesian recognise thirg genders as well

As a tamilian Hindu , I've visited MANY temples. And 90% of them have trans women begging outside of the temple. I've always wondered why they beg instead of getting a job and starting a life in their OWN homes with their families. But as I grew , I realized how the society mocked them for having a different sexual identity (transphobic ppl). They use adjectives like "adhu" which translates to "this/that/it". Our society doesn't really treat the Trans community like they should be. I also learned that they're kicked out of their homes for coming out as Trans. As they believe that transgenders go "against" nature. Not only Trans people, the entire LGBTQIA+ community. Its 2020 now and I hope people will realize the importance of acceptance.
When I was a kid I was very confused why transgender people visited whenever a baby is born or when someone builds a new house. As I grew up, I got to know the connection this holds with god and yet their families and society decide to reject them. I hope in future all the genders are treated with equal respect and dignity.
My understanding was that the would come around to your home and offer a blessing to the family on the birth of a child if this was not wanted and you refused to offer them money they would curse the child. Old superstitions are hard to break.

Nikhil Nayak Hijras are also intersex people (they have both a penis and vagina) which is why they were recognized as special and can grant blessings to married couples so the couple can have a healthy child.

There's also hijras in my country Bangladesh I remember seeing them when I was young and 4 years ago when I last visited, everyones so normal about it I was suprised to see a man in a saree at first but its normal. Especially since I'm muslim I thought people would say negative stuff but in my village everyone is normal and accepting with everyone and it didnt matter if they came to a party or gathering.

It's not an easy journey alone. I prayed every night while I was 'there', knowing that what I did is totally wrong. My parent passed away, my siblings disconnected all of our family ties. After 10 years of filthy living, God answered my prayer at last - but with lots of obstacles & conditions that really hard - only then I felt so stressful and miserable. But chance only knocks once, so I packed all of my stuff and went back to my hometown on 2015. People around keep harassing me, not to mention also trying to abuse me sexually, but I don't care! They don't understand what I'm going through, and I don't need to explain why. Now, I'm having a great life away from those sad world. Yes, back then I got tons of money but I'm not happy either. Today, after hardly picking myself up to be a 'man' again, it's really good to know that I did the best choice yesteryears. Slowly but steadily, I'm getting stronger. It's OK if I don't be rich but at least I'm feeling great this way. My best friends are all around to be with and that's enough. I do really hope that they will get through no matter what kind of hardship to transform themselves. Not because of others but for yourself. I wish them well with lots of love and prayer... Ancient India and its Native religion (Hinduism) embraced diversity and different genders, It gave the world Kamasutra (The Sex Manual) and accepted Homosexuality, Hindu Fables often speak of Legendary & Heroic Men who identified themselves as Transgender, They were the equivalent of Great Heroes like Hercules and Ulysseus, But for India !!! That's not all, The Chief God of Hindu Pantehon (Shiva) is mentioned to be a Transgender (Being Part Male and part Female). So imagine how much they respected Transgender people when they worshipped a Transgender God as their Chief Deity !!! But after India was Invaded by Islamic Empires and Colonized by British, Principles and Morals of Christianity and Islam crept into Hinduism and the Local Population made the Hijra (Transgender people) victims of Bigotry and people used to Humiliate them and consider them "A Social Disease". (This Bigotry and hate still exists today, Hard to get rid of the Past so easily). But, With time, India is soon changing and embacing them and recognizing the human rights of people just like their Ancient indian Culture which celebrated them as a normal part of the Society !

We used to have this concept of third sex in the Philippines too, before colonial era. It was probably influenced by this hindu concept. They were called "babaylan". Well, it is debatable whether babaylans are actually female priestess, but it is widely known that there are babaylans who are not male nor female and they hold a special role in pre-hispanic Philippine society as shamans or priestesses who blesses people. When the Spaniards came, they banned such things as they spread Christianity over the islands, and persecuted those babaylans because it is seen as sinful in Christian point of view.
That is very tragic. So many cultures and traditions destroyed by colonialism.
Philipinos are austronesian and have similarities in indigenous culture with other Malaysians and Indonesians.... for example in Sabah the Kadazan have High Priestesses known as Bobohozan which function similarly to Babaylan (altho rarely are they trans they’re def always women) meanwhile the Bugis in Sulawesi have the Bissu which are Intersex priests (Bissu are not trans but they also have trans men and women as 3rd and 4th gender known as calalai and calabai) and then Pacific Islanders who are also austronesian recognise thirg genders as well

As a tamilian Hindu , I've visited MANY temples. And 90% of them have trans women begging outside of the temple. I've always wondered why they beg instead of getting a job and starting a life in their OWN homes with their families. But as I grew , I realized how the society mocked them for having a different sexual identity (transphobic ppl). They use adjectives like "adhu" which translates to "this/that/it". Our society doesn't really treat the Trans community like they should be. I also learned that they're kicked out of their homes for coming out as Trans. As they believe that transgenders go "against" nature. Not only Trans people, the entire LGBTQIA+ community.
Its 2020 now and I hope people will realize the importance of acceptance.

When I was a kid I was very confused why transgender people visited whenever a baby is born or when someone builds a new house. As I grew up, I got to know the connection this holds with god and yet their families and society decide to reject them. I hope in future all the genders are treated with equal respect and dignity.
My understanding was that the would come around to your home and offer a blessing to the family on the birth of a child if this was not wanted and you refused to offer them money they would curse the child. Old superstitions are hard to break.

There's also hijras in my country Bangladesh I remember seeing them when I was young and 4 years ago when I last visited, everyones so normal about it I was suprised to see a man in a saree at first but its normal. Especially since I'm muslim I thought people would say negative stuff but in my village everyone is normal and accepting with everyone and it didnt matter if they came to a party or gathering.

It's not an easy journey alone. I prayed every night while I was 'there', knowing that what I did is totally wrong. My parent passed away, my siblings disconnected all of our family ties.
After 10 years of filthy living, God answered my prayer at last - but with lots of obstacles & conditions that really hard - only then I felt so stressful and miserable. But chance only knocks once, so I packed all of my stuff and went back to my hometown on 2015.
People around keep harassing me, not to mention also trying to abuse me sexually, but I don't care! They don't understand what I'm going through, and I don't need to explain why.
Now, I'm having a great life away from those sad world. Yes, back then I got tons of money but I'm not happy either. Today, after hardly picking myself up to be a 'man' again, it's really good to know that I did the best choice yesteryears. Slowly but steadily, I'm getting stronger. It's OK if I don't be rich but at least I'm feeling great this way. My best friends are all around to be with and that's enough.
I do really hope that they will get through no matter what kind of hardship to transform themselves. Not because of others but for yourself. I wish them well with lots of love and prayer...

Ancient India and its Native religion (Hinduism) embraced diversity and different genders, It gave the world Kamasutra (The Sex Manual) and accepted Homosexuality, Hindu Fables often speak of Legendary & Heroic Men who identified themselves as Transgender, They were the equivalent of Great Heroes like Hercules and Ulysseus, But for India !!! That's not all, The Chief God of Hindu Pantehon (Shiva) is mentioned to be a Transgender (Being Part Male and part Female). So imagine how much they respected Transgender people when they worshipped a Transgender God as their Chief Deity !!!
But after India was Invaded by Islamic Empires and Colonized by British, Principles and Morals of Christianity and Islam crept into Hinduism and the Local Population made the Hijra (Transgender people) victims of Bigotry and people used to Humiliate them and consider them "A Social Disease". (This Bigotry and hate still exists today, Hard to get rid of the Past so easily).
But, With time, India is soon changing and embacing them and recognizing the human rights of people just like their Ancient indian Culture which celebrated them as a normal part of the Society !

Wow most people here are so accepting, everytime I watched videos like lgbt rights from my country the comment section is always filled with hate and I can't stand reading it even if I'm a straight girl I really can't stand seeing these people get treated badly even tho they didn't harm anyone and it's theur personal bussiness.
