Excellent commentary, Palkiji. I visited Bamyan in 2004, after Buddha’s were destroyed, sight still stands magnificent in the Shia valley of Bamyian.. In fact I was told it is not Taliban but ISI that prompted the former to destroy the Buddha’s. I’m also told that Japanese might rebuild the sight, but not seen any progress..
Well the way the Buddha statue was blown up it looks to me as a work of some trained demolition expert . So precisely the statue has been removed without damage to side walls.
I was told the debris was removed from and sight and hauled to Pakistan so as to not allow rebuild. Yes, it was work of expert demolishing people which could only have come from Pakistan..

Saw a documentary about the bombing of the Bamiyan Buddha years ago. The Afghan archaeologist was so upset, he threw his shoe at the tv showing the bombing. It was part of their cultural heritage. And the people living in that area were very upset too. As the Bamiyan brought in tourists and they could make some $ from tourism.

In fact, because that statue is useless, that no one needs that statue anymore. That's why in Kashmir, Old Temple's stones and statues are taken without the acknowledge of the government to be made as cooking stones such as mortar and pestle. So, no one will claim that history anymore and they will be lost and left as a useless object. Something is known due to their history or a symbol of a certain community or nation, we don't want that those symbols of certain community. This Bamyan ex-Buddha can be turned into a giant darvaza and carved with Quranic verses and praises to Allah. This will be another masterpiece of human history.

India is trying to re-establish the ancient trade route of Rome/Greece - Egypt - Sumeria - India from the time of Ashoka and the Roman empire. In those days Ashoka was able to make peace in this region through Buddhism. This is just a small attempt from the Indian government to regain peace in this geopolitically significant region.
