My 2nd year of Medical School starts TODAY (the time/date this video goes up)! Absolutely insane how fast the time has gone. This year will be pretty different compared to my 1st year of medical school. I will need to adapt to my new class schedule, prepare for Step 1, start clinical rotations, etc. It is going to be nuts. It really goes by so fast!! :O
Don't be afraid to drop something extra curriculair! You sound stressed about it and it can all burn you out real Quick. I am there now. So if you feel at any point in the coming year burnt out dont be afraid to drop something. Preferrably something stressing you out and not something healthy.
I absolutely agree! If it starts to become too much, I will definitely be cutting things off of my plate. Nothing I do is worth causing myself too much stress or decreased quality of life!

Starting clerkship in a month here in Canada (M3), so I feel your anxiety about shifting things to a schedule that will be more rigorous because of in-person demand. A plus side is that removing lectures and having your school getting you to use resources like UFAP & BnB is literally a dream! Best of luck. I'll be watching your journey as usual. Also, Heme/Onc isn't that bad.
Wow! Congrats on making it to clerkship :D Best of luck to you- you're going to do great! I am 2 days into Heme now and I can see how it isn't sooo bad but I will definitely need another solid week and a half to feel comfortable haha. I have barely broken through the anemias!

You’re doing so well, Shaun, so very proud of you! Your school is like UNC. My daughter took her step 1 in February and started her rotations in March. And you’re right, no more summer breaks. Congrats again for making it this far. Every step of med school is an accomplishment.

I’m starting my second year of undergrad this fall. Gotta start studying for the mcat cause I take it one year from now. Crazy to think that I’m already there. Time truly flies.

Yay your 2nd year! 👏👏sounds like a very busy yr. I think u need to do the rock climbing it will be good for your mental state! Give the brain a rest. I have faith u will fig everything out just like your 1st yr 😊it will be so cool to get your own patients. They will love u! Nerves go with it all. Normal process! I started my second year of med school last week 😭 good luck for 2nd year!!! And the best perk about online classes is definitely being able to attend classes in your own comfortable space. But that backfires lol I sometimes find it harder to concentrate during online classes bc I’m always EATING. Also, the Covid situation in my country is getting worse so I’m stuck with online classes for my 2nd year too 😭 How many blocks will you be having during your 2nd year?
Right?! I loved being all comfy at home and being able to eat snacks, make food, or take a quick nap. There is definitely pros and cons with online learning! During my 2nd year, I will have 3 blocks before going into dedicated for Step! :D

You (and a few other TH-camrs) inspired me to start/revamp my own channel and document my journey as a first-gen student at University! I start in a few weeks and am super nervous!
Did/Do you have any reservations about returning to campus due to the current status of the virus?
Thank you so much!! :) & wow that is awesome! I am so happy you are starting a channel- I will have to check it out! :) I do have some reservations with COVID rates starting to increase. However, I trust my schools judgement and will follow their advice/CDC guidelines!
Can you tell us some more info on the research ur doing? It would be awesome to hear what kinda research med students do
I will talk a lot more about it as the projects come to completion, but I am currently working on Emergency medicine and Medical Education research!

Hey Andersen! You majored in kinesiology right? I'm interested in the kinesiology major as my premed major but I'm curious if it allowed you to have time for mcat prep and volunteer/clinical experience? Anyway, great video as always!
Hey there! :) My kinesiology major definitely allowed enough time! I took some summer classes which helped free up time for MCAT studying since I could take a light semester. I also worked as a scribe during the major. I recommend it!

Do you learning from textbooks? Sometimes? Or ...you still doing this weird anki thing 😁 Sorry I don't understand what it is... still doing questions and questions and questions... Here in Europe we don't have something like this.
We have big (I mean freakin' big) textbooks and....studying that. That's all. No anki, no doing all day questions... I don't understand how can be good this question system. Really weird. I know you've got usmle...but still don't understand.
Maybe video about US medical education system and studying?
I use the First Aid textbooks, but my preferred learning is through practice questions since it helps the information stick better and puts the information in to some context!
@@ShaunAndersen only first aid book? Nothing else? So which informations? I mean...first aid is not big, and includes so many topics... We have biiig books of every topic! But 1 small book of "everything"? So what is your study habits. You read topic in first aid and than what, doing questions? Thats your system? Maybe video about it... We've got books about 1500 pages so I really don't understand :D
