    Diesels function via compression and high fuel injection pressure; glow plugs are only needed in cold weather. Check fuel delivery; lift pump, high pressure pump (usually driven off the engine), and the injectors themselves (could either be fully mechanical or solenoid based)

      This was the consensus of comments from the prior posting about glow plugs.
      Don't see how supplemental grounding will change the fuel issue.

    Hey, Zack! I enjoy all your videos! 40+ years of diesel truck fleet maintenance taught me:
    1. Check fuel pressure.
    2. Check fuel filter(s)
    3. Check fuel shut off solenoid.
    4. Check for air restriction. A diesel only needs fuel and air to run.
    5. Do an electrical check on the glow plugs, make sure they are to manufacturer specs.
    If you have fuel, air and the glow plugs are working, it will start and run.
    Good luck!

    There are easy ways to check for working glow plugs. And glow plugs, as a lot of people have pointed out, are useful below freezing (that light is mainly there to prevent you from activating the starter while the glow plugs are pulling current from the battery on "dumb" systems). In my days as a mechanic, I've seen diesel trucks refuse to start for as simple a reason as bad air filters. So, my point is a good troubleshooting methodology is in order here, but I guess it wouldn't make for interesting content.

    Reading lots of comments about fuel. I agree you've got some kind of fuel delivery problem. Could be wiring, injectors or pump related. Just hope the fuel delivery system isn't all hogged up!!! Good luck.

    • @asiudominick12
      @asiudominick12 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Having worked on many diesels I would most likely say it is the fuel pump, especially if it has a mechanical pump. I would check the fuel cut off solenoid first and then individually check all the injector pump outputs to see if it needs a rebuild

    We were instructed to silicone the starter wires to protect them from corrosion as well as hasty privates that like to arc out wrenches on bare terminals. lol The PCM is a black box under the dash on the driver side. The cannon plug is right in front of the drivers window under the hood. That box controls pretty much everything on that vehicle. If you haven't already tested to see that the glow plugs are actually cycling do that. If you have it may be the PCM. The good news is that you look like you have either the 6.2 or the 6.5 detuned so you may be able to run that thing with about 4 wires since it has mechanical fuel injection.

    You can download all of the maintenance manuals (TM's) for free. It will save you a ton of time on troubleshooting. There are alot of small things and model variations on these trucks that were added do to military requirements that don't really make sense to the average civilian mechanic. (And sometimes the military mechanic either!) Get all of the operator -10, Maintenance -20/30 etc... and the parts manuals and read them. Make sure you are using the correct TM based on your model. The TM's will be a good foundation to maintain your truck even if you think you can do something a different way or easier. I was a mechanic in the Army for 26 years from 1992 to 2018 and worked on a bunch of different variants of the HMMWV. The worst thing you can do to one is not drive it! Give her some love and drive the hell out of it. She won't let you down.

    Crack the injector lines at the injectors and watch for fuel on ALL while turning the engine over, Also get a fuel pressure tester. Two easy spots to start for fuel stuff. Also for the glow plugs, pull one or two out and hold them with pliers (make sure you have a ground) while turning the engine to on to see if they get real hot or don't work.

    • @francoistombe
      @francoistombe 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Depends on whether there is direct injection or a precombustion/turbulence chamber. Chambers need glow plugs all the time except when engine is hot.

  • @leekay07
    @leekay07 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Lots of people already said the same thing. Chasing glow plugs for this is not the answer. Check compression on your engine. Not well up on larger engines but smaller ones suffer from block cracks. Use some easy start see if it starts.. if it does not then you know you have a compression leak. If it does turn over and die it's probably fuel delivery issue like a bad fuel filter, pump or gummed up rails.

    I’m literally here watching SCREAMING it’s fuel or compression not the glow plugs. A diesel will fire at nominal ambient temperatures with sufficient compression and fuel. The hummers are a really simple design intentionally. All you are doing is firing the proverbial parts cannon.

    • @harmiczek
      @harmiczek 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Hopefully you see this but maybe my credibility helps, I'm currently in the military and have worked with Humvees most my military career. There's a couple tricks to starting these old machines, so the first trick you wanna try is while holding the starting switch in the start position and give it some gas (hit the acceleration). Another trick you can do is the same as the last one but have someone hold a piece of cardboard over the exhaust until it hopefully starts. This last trick is a bit hard to explain so I hope you understand what I'm saying, move the starting switch towards the start position slowly, when the vehicle begins to run give it as much as gas possible. I hope this helps and if you have any questions about my tricks just reply to my comment.

If it were the glow plugs you shuld se a white smok koming out fo the exaust from the unburnd vaporized ful... id chek the flow of the pums the filter and as a last messure the injetors, but you ned to be caful with those cause vaporised disel is rater toxic and at the high injetion pressure i can easily injeckt it under your skin... i wish you best of luck with your projekt.
