    Check the date of manufacturing on those tires, might be good to keep for spares. Low chance they're still the originals from all that time ago. Also cracking on the sidewall is more dangerous than cracking on the tread, especially with tires that durable I wouldn't worry too much about the cracks you show. Just make sure the side of them aren't cracking, that's how you get blowouts like Westin 😁

    • @hummervs3278

      Whats odd to me, was an experiment I did with my 95 hummer. My 12 bolts with runflats and MT tires are 165 each (oof!)
      I put on a set of aluminum rim and hiway tread tires from a friends pickup that was 0.25” shorter measured on the truck so sidewall flex was accounted for. Chalk tested tread so it was optimal like my tires were. I saw zero gain in mpg or the 0-60 time. Ran two tanks of fuel to get descent comparison.
      The 6.5 diesel does get way worse mpg in hummer than pickups- so maybe already over taxed engine just couldn’t benifit at that level of gearing. Weight is not any more than my k3500 with 6.5 was, actually a hair less.
      Another Hummer anomaly? Haha

    JFYI: the RTV should be applied to both the inner area and around the outside of the bolt holes. Not a crazy deal here, but with cast-iron the 3-4thou of gap created by the sealant on the inside of the bolt hole and not on the outside can crack the bolting tabs off when torqued down.

    Looking goooooood! I like your choice for wheels and tires I think it depends on what you’re going to do for a paint job. If a different tire would look better? I really think you should think about a clearcoat varnish finish give it that used but finished look that so many resto mod’s are sporting these days. Good luck Zack see you next video!

    At 08:53, you're almost in the best position to mount that tire! Scoot a little closer, straighten out the right leg and once the holes are in line with the lug nuts, squeeze them thighs to raise the tire up to height before sliding it into place. Love the conversion so far man!

    Random thought about the Tesla's not including a spare- My Dad' Model 3 picks up nails like a magnet. He's needed 6 new tires in 2.5 years of ownership, because the stock whels have sound insulation inside that makes it impossible to plug.

    • @Nevir202
      @Nevir202 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      How would anything being inside make it "impossible" to plug?
      You mean tire shops just refuse to do so?

    • @TaylorHudson
      @TaylorHudson 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Nevir202 Their is a foam insulation mated to the rubber on the back side of the tread. I assume that makes it contract around a plug differently, because we tried mutiple times to no avail.

    10:10 My current car (2020 model) didn't come with a spare tire, either. Instead it came with a combo compressor/repair device. When switched one way, it just acts as an air compressor. When switched another way, it injects a sealant into the air flow to fix standard punctures. Tesla probably throws something similar in their cars. Not much help in case of a blow-out, but I think blow-outs have become exceedingly rare for road-only vehicles.
