    Wowowow! Watched this to get some inspo for building a new enclosure for my 14 year old, 8+ ft redtail.
    I had a custom enclosure built for her years ago but I'm over it and I'm sure she is too.
    Would love to have her next one be an art piece like this!
    This video has given me so much guidance on how to achieve this. Well done! Massive terrarium builds are so hard to come by and finding this video made my day. Thank you! 🐍🖤

      Thank you for your comment and support! I'm glad this video has given you some guidance and some info on how to create your own. I'm sure your redtail will like whatever you build. Sometimes, the hardest part is getting started, but after that, it rolls out. Feel free to ask and questions you have along the way and I'll help to the best of my knowledge.

    You remind me of Joey from King of DIY, just with reptiles instead of fish. Took him a while, but he eventually got to a place where he could support both his family and his hobby off of TH-cam.
    Side note: Are PVC board and FRP board the same thing? They look very similar.

    • @bradsbioactivebuilds
      @bradsbioactivebuilds  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you, I will have to check out his channel. I always enjoy watching DIY content.
      To answer your question, PVC board it the same material pVC pipe is made outbof. It's just not as dense. FRP board is a thinner fiberglass sheet. It can be used if pvc is not an option near you. Pvc sheets seem to the reginal specific. But you would build an enclosure out of plywood. And if you don't waterproof it with polystyrene or drylok, you can install FRP on the inside to protect the wood.
      Hope this helps and thank you for your support.

      @@bradsbioactivebuilds thanks for the material tips! Looking to build out enclosures for my ball pythons and I need all the advice I can get since it’ll be my first project of this sort! 😵‍💫 I’m more familiar with FRP but also have seen the downsides of it in that it deteriorates very quickly- might as well just use well-sealed wood if pvc sheets specifically aren’t available. Of course, my reference is commercial restaurants and a snake will be a lot easier on the material than a bunch of teenagers who’ve never been in food service before lmao

    • @bradsbioactivebuilds
      @bradsbioactivebuilds  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Thank-you
      And to answer your question I'm sure a nice stainless steal staple would work. I'm just set in my ways with using screws 🤣. For smaller builds I have used 1.25" drywall screws. I personally wouldn't trust the staple having a mind of its own and not going in straight.
      Hope this helps

    Awesome job man. Could you tell me the exact product you are using to seal and cement your PVC panel joints? It is safe for reptiles (of course it is)? And do you have to wait some amount of time for the fumes to be safe for any animals to go inside?

      For best results, pvc cement would work best. You would need to work very fast.

I have been wanting to build a new enclosure for my Brazilian Rainbow Boa for like 4 years now, i found your videos and have finally been able to start. I've had the pvc for like 3 years now but couldn't figure out how to do it as a free standing structure and got overwhelmed and just didn't do anything. over the weekend i got the base built and picked up entirely too much foam board lol. one quick question tho. I am building it in my garage, and the dimensions i am using are gonna be tight on getting it in the front door, the top back 2x4 brace can be removed and replaced with the inset 2x4 with the pocket holes after getting the pvc installed, correct?

      Good question. PVC won't breakdown, rot or have a chance of water damage over time, easier to clean, and its lighter weight. But the biggest reason is climate control. • @bradsbioactivebuilds
      @bradsbioactivebuilds  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @DraconisMarchVII 100% correct in waterproofing wood will keep it damage free. I used to build enclosures with wood and drylok or polyurethane and held up just fine for the time I had them. There is just something about working with PVC I found to enjoy lol, aside from the climate benefits. PVC is a little more expensive but once adding drylok or similar products to wood its about the same. I have found that some states done sell PVC 4x8 sheets. But I get them at home depo, lowes or menards. In the states that don't sell at the big box hardware stores, you can check out sign shops. They usually call it PVC expanded foam board though. But there are different densities though. Some they use too much "air" in the mix making it not strong enough. Hope this helps

Wanting to build a large boa cage soon (probably 7x4x4) and have been reading that the cast acrylic is a good stand in for normal glass for several reasons mainly the price point. I've found a 4x8 foot sheet of it for about 220 bucks and was thinking I could cut it myself to make identical panes for the sliding doors but I wanted some outside input from someone who may have experience with the stuff.

      I do not have any experience working with cast acrylic. I will most likely be trying it though fir the viewing window in the 8x4x6 paludarium I'm working on. Still playing with my options at the moment.

      @@bradsbioactivebuilds I appreciate the quick response and I especially appreciate the video series that I left this comment on. It's exactly what gave me the confidence to start building the cage I want and the idea I will end up following. Won't be copying identical but I will 100% be using the wood frame for the pvc sheeting to attach too. Haven't seen anyone else build like that before and it seems like the ideal way to build large constrictor cages and can scale to any size given the math is done correctly and you have enough money :)

      @slippedknot2001 awesome, I'm glad it gave you the confidence to build one. Once you get started, it just keeps going. Lmk if you have any questions along the way!

    Pvc boards aren’t sold anywhere near me. So I’ll have to use plywood then drylock it and oink installation board …should be sufficient?

    • @bradsbioactivebuilds
      @bradsbioactivebuilds  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @thehorrorlife7190 what state are you in? Some regions don't sell it at major hardware stores. Bit some custom sign shops do. They know it as expanding pvc board

      @@bradsbioactivebuilds I’m in California and yeah, they don’t sell it any longer. So instead of pvc board I’m thinking plywood, drylock or and cover it with pink insulation foam board should work fine

      @thehorrorlife7190 yeah that will work. Another great option would be is to use polygem 1618. It will hold up longer and stro ger than drylok in my opinion

    The thickness of the wood used is major overkill, could lift a house with them pieces 😂, videos ace still 👍🏻

      Lol, it definitely is overkill. All the 2x3 and 2x2 were bowed more than a banana 😆.
      It was a fun build to do. Just finished it up and onto the next one.

    Are you using “4 ft. X 8 ft. X 0.030 in. White High Impact Polystyrene HIPS Sheet” from Home Depot? If not will that work? Planning on starting this in a week so I hope I hear back from you.

      I got cement mixing tub from home depot in the cement aisle. They have a few different sizes. I got the biggest one that had a smooth bottom so I could attach the drain. I think it was around 30 bucks
