    We are starting the move Saturday of our 37x78 High tunnel greenhouse. It's definitely a greenhouse because it has a 30' swamp cooler and fans and a giant propane heater hanging in the rafters and we have a big wood stove for it too. We are turning one end into our milking room so we can run the cooler in the summer while milking and the rest will be citrus and other tropical fruit trees in the ground like an indoor garden

      Me, too. I LOVE these videos and I’m sure they’re done for the purpose of educating and helping people, but I fell certain that very few of us have available funds to invest into the homestead lifestyle. Being on a small limited income, this is nothing more than a dream for me (not to speak of the fact that I’m 73)...but it does give me hope for future generations.

    You will never be sorry you have the greenhouse. I will admit I have had a learning curve growing hydroponically in the Missouri Ozark’s. Had to figure out how to grow in clay and rocks. Big rocks. Even with temps -15 below zero it is still growing albeit slowly but I have fresh greens.

    Have you tried mixing 2 tablespoons of baking soda to a gallon of water? Use one of those little pump sprayer you like. Spray the plants and leaves tops and bottoms. This kills powdery mildew. Also, peas tend to prefer cooler tempetures. They can lightly freeze. I'm probably not telling you anything new. Just hope it helps.

    Thank you so much! Very, very informative video, as usual! We cannot afford a high tunnel right now, and we are hoping to move in the future; so we are going to attempt a cattle panel tunnel-with fans and window and roll up screened sides. We have been watching all your advice and hope to be successful in this endeavor! Thank you again for spending so much of your time helping others like myself.

    Looks like a professional set-up! I can get behind keeping insects out, but what about pollinators? I'm declaring war on Japanese beetle this year with double rounds of beneficial nematodes. Hopefully that helps. We really dislike insecticides because of bees and our (finally) healthy ground teeming with earthworms. Thank you for the tour!

      We open the doors during the day. Insect problems usually happen at night in the form of moths. So we close doors at night. Any that gets in usually gets in the big zapper at night.

    Good morning you had a lot of good information . I am concerned about electric after seeing all these or outages around this nation have you consider setting it up on solar or some alternative electric source so that you could be completely off-grid on your greenhouse I am trying to go completely off-grid I find it very hard and very costly on my animals I stay away from electric as much as possible I still use it I do haul water and I do have electric wellI have outside sources for water that don't take no electric I will have this summer on my Lord land a hand pump. Thank you for sharing your knowledge very helpful God bless and prayers for you.

    Good Burrrrr Morning. The question I have is about the lumber on your raised beds. I noticed you bolted the high tunnel to the side walls of the raised beds. Aren't you concerned about how you're going to replace those boards with the tunnel attached? I'm guessing with the moisture, soil and our termite issues those boards won't last more than 5 yrs even with you painting them. How "easy" are they going to be replaced?

    • @DeepSouthHomestead
      @DeepSouthHomestead  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      All bolts are galvanized hoping it won't be a problem.

    Hey, hey, hey Wanda and Danny - Good day, I have been planning future grow lights for greenhouse, which the greenhouse is in progress now, what kind of bulbs, watts, is it glass heat lightbulb or led, and about what distance and height should it be hanging? I have 1 bp 3000 led now - maybe I should get more, what do you think. I was thinking for sun, heat and growth....My greenhouse is low side wall 16x32. Thank you and God bless!

    • @DeepSouthHomestead
      @DeepSouthHomestead  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A true grow light should be over 6000 lumens to be efficient. Distance is debatable based on what plant is below it.
