Couple things.... don't put a grease gun in a vise and secondly, ALWAYS wipe the zerk fitting before inserting grease. A dirty zerk fitting will introduce dirt along with the clean grease into the bearing and scour the wall leading to premature bearing failure. Just sayin....
I really appreciate that you understand the difference between training that people take for granted, and common sense. It was eight months of weekly use of grease guns before I heard 3/4ths of the advice you gave. Guys always give advice in incomplete pieces, I find. One more tip. Put a light film of grease on the square o-ring to hold it in place. I think if you look at the video, the o-ring was not all in the right place when you put the fuel bowl on.
Cody, get a broom, get diesel, coat the snow plough in the diesel with the broom. it stops the snow sticking which makes snow clearance easier. you only need a thin coat for it to work

Hey Cody here's a tip...I always grip the grease gun in a vise by the plunger shaft up against the back cap so there is no way for the plunger to slip out & blow the grease out of the other end before you can re-screw the pump end back on. Also there's no chance of distorting the tube itself (witch could ruin its pump end seal, make a make a big mess & require buying a new grease gun.
Thank you for validating my maintenance craziness! 1) 2003 Liberty. Oil changed every 3,000, plugs every 30,000, diff fluids every 60,000, and tranny and t-case fluid every 30,000. Still going good after 257,000. Valvoline always used. All original parts. 2) 2003 John Deere LT 180. Plugs, Fuel and oil filter changed every season's end and spindles greased. Use non-ethanol gas. All original. Works great. 3) 2005. Arctic Cat 400 4x4. Bought used but oil changed regularly using AmsOIL full synthetic. Diffs changed too with AmsOIL. Non-ethanol gas. Spark plug cleaned, gapped, or changed seasonally. Starts first try, every try. 4) Chainsaw and weed trimmer greased every season. Spark plugs maintained seasonally. Runs like a champ. I've seen my friends go through two or three vehicles to my one. Maintenance works! Out here where I heat with wood and have to take care of 5 acres of land, my equipment needs to work the first time, every time. Period.
Hi Cody, I, for one, really appreciate the time you take to step us newbies through things like how to properly load a grease gun. If I had it to do over again, I would have taken the auto shop class in high school just to get the basics on taking care of vehicles. I hate having to depend on my dealership for the simple things. That is why I want to learn how to do things for myself.
I felt like at that point he should have been considering backing each one off to 8 links. I don't know if he had already tried that but 7 definately seemed like it was too tight.
I fixed a wood chipper this summer for my in laws. They got it dirt cheap because the seller thought it wouldn't run. Just needed some new filters and a carb. That thing was etched heavily from ethanol sitting in the bowl for several seasons.I even sharpened the blade using the wet sandpaper method you showed for chisels and plane irons. Works a treat now.
Your not going very fast with your tractor. Your chains really don't need to be that tight. I'm a truck driver and use cam lock chains, I don't think I have ever had my chains that tight. Snug is all you need, and I wouldn't worry about the tensioner. Just my two cents
This is a suggestion as I have never tried it. A Thought came to me as I watched you struggle with the chains. What about using a ratchet strap to tighten the tensioners so you can adjust them. Some people call them cargo straps.
don't really see what one thing has to do with the other. just a little cloth between the vise would prevent scratching. why would you treat the one thing bad and take care of the other things. I just felt bad for the new grease gun

Love the banjo intro!!! For tension on rear tires, you might consider to check the spring tension instead of counting links. Appears you might be one short of symmetry anyways... Cody Just watched you struggle with the "chain tentioner" thingy. Think about it for a while and apply a little bit of mechanics. With a bit of trial and error, locate the centre of the wheel where you want the center ring to be located for the size of the tire, then measure the distance for the tentioner chain to hold the tire track grip chain tight Find a piece of bar about 2 feet long Make a hook on one end. Take another piece of bar about 8 inches long with a hook on one end. Now, at a spot where you would have the "over enter point' (similar to the over center chain puller that you were using join the two bars together at that point Method of use}- Hook one end on the chain on the tire , open the tentioner and hook other short bar hook over the end of the centre spring. "Over-centre" the ' tool;' now you have both hands free to attatch the tension chain to the spring. . Un-hinge the tool and un-hook the tool. EUREKA. (no damaged fingers! Have a warm day John.
just a hint/suggestion. the tip on the grease gun is adjustable.one should loosen the tip of the gun(just a turn or so). install on the grease zerk an tighten up and then apply grease. then loosen. like the ball on your trailer. makes the grease gun end last.
grease gun tip: loosen the barrel a turn so before pulling out rod. release rod before tightening barrel allows air to escape around threads (burps) then tighten barrel.

One tip I've used when putting on ATV chains, deflate your tire, put the chain on nice and snub then re-inflate and the chain should be nice a tight. Thanks for sharing your vids.

Apparently there is a lot of different names for that little tool. Looking up images on google for O-ring pick, scribe, dental pick, they all look pretty much the same.
There is a difference, one is solid metal and the other has a plastic handle, scribe's are also made from hardened steel where picks are not, normally you snap a scribe and a pick will just bend
I bought a Honda ATV a few years back.The previous owner had it stored in a garage for about 8 years with fuel left in the tank and the lines. Between my father and I, we stripped the carburetor apart and tried to clean the tank. We also installed a fuel line filter. It ran rough at first, but it has been gradually getting better with more use.
Wranglestar, This is not meant to be critical, but informative. I am ASE, and Caterpillar certified diesel tech. The new common rail fuel systems require very fine fuel filtration. I'm talking about 1 micron. The common rail runs around 25,000-28,000 psi, and the pump cannot digest any particle larger than 2 microns without wear. You may as well take the filter off of your tank, and the funnel filter is probably a 20 micron filter. That screen is there for a REASON! Just bite the bullet, slow down, and let it clean your fuel like it was designed to do. As someone that is off the grid, you shouldn't be concerned with taking 15 minutes to fuel your tractor. lol. If you're gonna be a bear.....................................
You know for someone who uploads videos sharing his opinions you seem very uninterested in the opinions of your fans/followers when they know better or contradict you. This video in particular you spend most of it talking about taking the time to do things right so your equipment lasts as long as possible. Yet when a professional who knows the exact science of the subject at hand offers you some friendly advice on how to do something properly, you shrug it off because it would take to much time.....bit of a contradiction there. As you've said you're not running the tractor flat out all day, so how often do you really need to fill up? Surely if it took that long you could complete other small tasks in the vicinity as your waiting on the fuel filtering properly? Maybe being a little more humble and remembering that your job is only possible because of your subscribers would help you when interacting with them. Just sharing my opinion after reading several of your replies on several different videos.

One fact that is verifiable is that the pump on a common rail system has a 32,000 psi. relief valve. That pump is built to a two micron tolerance. Do you know how big a micron is? Oh well. So you're going to remove yourself from watching his video's because he didn't agree with you, or take your advice? Calling the kettle black. He is already filtering it as it comes out of the tank, which when you fill up your diesel truck at the station you don't even get that as far as I can see, plus he is filtering it with the funnel filter, so that's twice already, then the tractor has a built in filter system, so his fuel is being filtered 3 times. How many times would you filter you fuel? I know when I fill my truck and tractors I don't bother with more than 2, and with the truck it comes right out of the pump and through my truck mounted filter. I am also a mechanic, and a homesteader and understand how much must get done in a day. My personal tractor has over 10,000 hours on it without any major problems, knocking on wood here. I think his fuel is just fine, your simply picking at nits. I also don't think he was rude at all, people are far to easily put off these day's. Another thing to think about is when you read something you don't get a persons true reaction, but just the words, which may sound gruff when in fact he may have just been a simple reply. My point is, if you have enjoyed his video's for so long, why would you give up watching them simply because you didn't like his tone? This isn't a sewing circle here.

I generally remove the top cap after putting the grease cartridge into the gun. In the UK they're plastic and it makes it easier to remove in the gun. Great channel, Cody.
GREAT stuff on your channels. Quick chain hack if it hasn't already been mentioned here in all these comments. Lay your chain out on the ground flat. In the center, place a few pieces of wood cribbing (stacked) between the chain spaces. Then drive your tire on top of the cribbing. The chains can then be pulled up over your tires and positioned to your liking since they'll be loose and not touching the ground. Easier to set your binders as well. Cheers.

If you use a separate chain, and hook it across the tire to the tractor.Then you could hook your binder to that, and stretch the spring as much as you need.
Hey Cody, I tip I found from working a job in Alaska is to put your lube products in a warm place during the winter. It makes it a lot nicer when you have to use it
I've used a large turnbuckle to help me center the binders on tire chains. It's a bit slow to pull them tight, but the hooks fit the ring and chain, and you just tighten it with a bar through the yoke.

Cody, I think you just proved the rationale for the regular bungee tensioners. Thinks for the insights with the fuel filter and grease gun- very helpful.
I've found quite often that the plungers on new grease guns are deformed from rushed assembly and because of the deformation one edge of the plunger hangs up on the entry of the cartridge. So now in advance of use I inspect the plunger and will temporarily manually insert it into the end of the new cartridge and leave it for a couple of days to learn its shape. You don't open the poptop end till you are ready to do the final reassembly of the gun. Yes keeping your next tube of grease in a warmer location helps also. But this did correct a problem I had with my mini gun and was about to give up on it. having flexlines on the guns with the adjustable angle heads allows you access to some fittings that get blocked by attachments or implements that you aren't ready to remove. Oh I used to bid on and get preventative maintenance work at an industrial plant.
Something I use a lot that mite help with installing the tire chain is a ratchet strap used like a come along. In my trade I use a come along for everything and a ratchet strap works great as a miniature version. Awesome videos. Long time subscriber.
Mistake number one that a man should never make, confuse *tolerance* with *clearance*. Please, please learn the difference and never again conflate the two very different design concepts.
back up to a tree put a cable around the tree that has two loops back your tractor up put your tension device in the center Loop but the other end inside both loops then tighten it do not depend on using the chain wrapped around the tire PK CenterPoint with one cable with two loops make the cable long enough so that you can wrap it around the center post or you're Anchor Point several times to meet the distance for attaching your chains
Love all of your videos thank you.a little tip on greasing equipment taught to me by a very wise old boss of mine Junior Merritt. always meticulously clean all grease zerts before you put the gun on it so you don't push dirt in with the grease and wear the bushings hopefully it will help your equipment Last much longer.

I built front end loaders and refitted and rebuilt 2nd hand ones for 6 years and cant tell you how many worn out loader pins and pin bushes I dealt with that had never seen a grease gun. I've never seen to much lubrication wear out machinery. P.S. I can tell you (as an Australian) how glad I am that the fluffy water doesn't fall on inland OZ!
Can I just say, I appreciate you making small errors or mistakes and leaving them in the final video. (I.e when the chain was trapped behind the tensioner and not getting the final link on) It would be so easy to edit them out and make yourself look greater than you are.
I feel you frustration.. When I was in the Air Force my job was towing large aircraft, and in the winter we (I) had to chain up a 26 ton tow tractor. I learned if you put the binders on with arm strength...evenly...then work your way around one link at a time to achieve the proper link length. Though I did this in a hanger....much drier.
Great heads up with the Mr. Funnel. I connect two rubber grease hoses together to create a long hose which is far easier to reach the hard to reach grease zerks.
Thread rope between ring in center, then to your outside links of the chain like a block and tackle and cinch them suckers up. I use this to install ditched chains, hope this helps!

Cody, try putting spring on 7th link and then stretch it to center ring and hook it. Sometimes the most obvious things you don't see, when you do you don't know why you didn't see it. Been there, done that.
Cody, If I can add my 2 cents. I always wipe the tips of my grease zerks with a clean rag before shooting grease in. That way your not forcing dirt in along with the grease.

I would rather watch a video where someone might have a moment of being a butter finger and get frustrated then watch ones where everything has been edited out and the watcher believes that it was really easy to do. Have had issues trying to get chains tightened even and usually a short spin up and down the driveway helps. Blessings.
you could also string a short length of 1/8 cable through a chain link connect it into a loop with a crosby clamp, then you will have a better loop to hook your binder hook into.
Cody I've used chain binders on my chains just to connect the master link! Try making a small chain to hook your binder on instead of hooking the binder straight to the tire chain!!!
Lubrication tip.When you were greasing, I noticed the "angle" cylinders had no grease fittings, but they need lube too. There is a product call "Fluid Film" that is between grease and WD40. It comes in a spray can and is really good for those non-grease able joints. I also use it on battery post to control corrosion. This is an all around lube that heavy like grease but lite like WD40. Great stuff.
I like the green waterproof marine grease. It won't mix with water and become sludge. Excellent for anything that may come in contact with water (most things you're greasing).
That tool is called a Scribe. I love them, a tool box requirement. As far as hitting the grease fittings, on Aircraft, we hit them after every 60 hours of flight time or after every wash, very important to hit them after a wash!! Our Jets are 50+ years old are work great (KC-135).
I was a oilerman in a sawmill. Grease can save a lot of money. I now work in a Co-generation plant we use a CAT 950H to load our fuel we grease it every time we fill up.
Grease gun loading tip!! Load the new cartridge then thread the magazine on a couple of threads. Now release the plunger rod so the plunger starts pushing on the grease. Now finish tightening the magazine and this will help prime the grease into the pump. As a mechanic I have done it this way for years and it works 99% of the time. If it is cold and or you still have air trapped, just back off the Mag 3-4 turns then retighten.
couple things, to make priming the grease gun easier, only thread the pump head on about 2 turns, then release the spring plunger, this allows the air to go past the threads and as you thread the head on the rest of the way on it pushes grease into the pump. The type of grease is very important, that yellow grease you put in that gun is better for summer use, and is made for wheel bearing applications, it is too thick for winter. A #2 grease. with molybdenum is best for pin and bushing joints. There isn't a rule on how many pumps needed as it changes by the size of the joint and the amount of wear, your loader pins may fill up in two pumps now, but a couple yrs from now they may need four, always grease until you see some old grease coming out the gaps. Also, tire chains should be left slightly loose for maximum benefit, leave them tight and they work their way in between the lugs, they also wear on the tires in only one spot.
Preventive maintenance is the best way to prevent major problems. My dad taught me that from the first day I was with him in the shop. He said do the little things that way you avoid big things from happening. Love my dad he still teaches me stuff

Wranglerstar, as an alternative to coating the moldboard with diesel or oil maybe try pledge furniture wax, I have done this with hand shovels and it helps quite a lot keeping snow from sticking to the shovel. I hope Mrs. Wranglerstar feels better soon!

I air down the tires a bit, then put the chains on as tight as I can, then air them up. No tensioners necessary.

If I had it to do over again, I would have taken the auto shop class in high school just to get the basics on taking care of vehicles. I hate having to depend on my dealership for the simple things. That is why I want to learn how to do things for myself.

I felt like at that point he should have been considering backing each one off to 8 links. I don't know if he had already tried that but 7 definately seemed like it was too tight.
I fixed a wood chipper this summer for my in laws. They got it dirt cheap because the seller thought it wouldn't run. Just needed some new filters and a carb. That thing was etched heavily from ethanol sitting in the bowl for several seasons.I even sharpened the blade using the wet sandpaper method you showed for chisels and plane irons. Works a treat now.
Your not going very fast with your tractor. Your chains really don't need to be that tight. I'm a truck driver and use cam lock chains, I don't think I have ever had my chains that tight. Snug is all you need, and I wouldn't worry about the tensioner. Just my two cents
This is a suggestion as I have never tried it. A Thought came to me as I watched you struggle with the chains. What about using a ratchet strap to tighten the tensioners so you can adjust them. Some people call them cargo straps.

Love the banjo intro!!! For tension on rear tires, you might consider to check the spring tension instead of counting links. Appears you might be one short of symmetry anyways... Congrats on the tractor and accessories! You've earned the use of them for all of the other hand power you have helped inspire in us.

Just watched you struggle with the "chain tentioner" thingy. Think about it for a while and apply a little bit of mechanics.
With a bit of trial and error, locate the centre of the wheel where you want the center ring to be located for the size of the tire, then measure the distance for the tentioner chain to hold the tire track grip chain tight
Find a piece of bar about 2 feet long Make a hook on one end. Take another piece of bar about 8 inches long with a hook on one end.
Now, at a spot where you would have the "over enter point' (similar to the over center chain puller that you were using join the two bars together at that point
Method of use}- Hook one end on the chain on the tire , open the tentioner and hook other short bar hook over the end of the centre spring. "Over-centre" the ' tool;' now you have both hands free to attatch the tension chain to the spring. . Un-hinge the tool and un-hook the tool.

just a hint/suggestion. the tip on the grease gun is adjustable.one should loosen the tip of the gun(just a turn or so). install on the grease zerk an tighten up and then apply grease. then loosen. like the ball on your trailer. makes the grease gun end last.

Never run your equipment without ensuring the fuel is clean of contaminates, and never run machinery without greasing moving parts first.

grease gun tip: loosen the barrel a turn so before pulling out rod. release rod before tightening barrel allows air to escape around threads (burps) then tighten barrel.

One tip I've used when putting on ATV chains, deflate your tire, put the chain on nice and snub then re-inflate and the chain should be nice a tight. Thanks for sharing your vids.

FYI....If you REALLY want to get that last link, just use a snap chain and hook it into the inside rail(links)on the tire chains, then hook the binder to it to get the extra leverage you need.(;>)

Apparently there is a lot of different names for that little tool. Looking up images on google for O-ring pick, scribe, dental pick, they all look pretty much the same.
There is a difference, one is solid metal and the other has a plastic handle, scribe's are also made from hardened steel where picks are not, normally you snap a scribe and a pick will just bend
I bought a Honda ATV a few years back.The previous owner had it stored in a garage for about 8 years with fuel left in the tank and the lines. Between my father and I, we stripped the carburetor apart and tried to clean the tank. We also installed a fuel line filter. It ran rough at first, but it has been gradually getting better with more use.

This is not meant to be critical, but informative. I am ASE, and Caterpillar certified diesel tech. The new common rail fuel systems require very fine fuel filtration. I'm talking about 1 micron. The common rail runs around 25,000-28,000 psi, and the pump cannot digest any particle larger than 2 microns without wear. You may as well take the filter off of your tank, and the funnel filter is probably a 20 micron filter.
That screen is there for a REASON! Just bite the bullet, slow down, and let it clean your fuel like it was designed to do. As someone that is off the grid, you shouldn't be concerned with taking 15 minutes to fuel your tractor. lol.

You know for someone who uploads videos sharing his opinions you seem very uninterested in the opinions of your fans/followers when they know better or contradict you. This video in particular you spend most of it talking about taking the time to do things right so your equipment lasts as long as possible. Yet when a professional who knows the exact science of the subject at hand offers you some friendly advice on how to do something properly, you shrug it off because it would take to much time.....bit of a contradiction there. As you've said you're not running the tractor flat out all day, so how often do you really need to fill up? Surely if it took that long you could complete other small tasks in the vicinity as your waiting on the fuel filtering properly? Maybe being a little more humble and remembering that your job is only possible because of your subscribers would help you when interacting with them. Just sharing my opinion after reading several of your replies on several different videos.

One fact that is verifiable is that the pump on a common rail system has a 32,000 psi. relief valve. That pump is built to a two micron tolerance. Do you know how big a micron is?

So you're going to remove yourself from watching his video's because he didn't agree with you, or take your advice? Calling the kettle black. He is already filtering it as it comes out of the tank, which when you fill up your diesel truck at the station you don't even get that as far as I can see, plus he is filtering it with the funnel filter, so that's twice already, then the tractor has a built in filter system, so his fuel is being filtered 3 times. How many times would you filter you fuel? I know when I fill my truck and tractors I don't bother with more than 2, and with the truck it comes right out of the pump and through my truck mounted filter. I am also a mechanic, and a homesteader and understand how much must get done in a day. My personal tractor has over 10,000 hours on it without any major problems, knocking on wood here. I think his fuel is just fine, your simply picking at nits. I also don't think he was rude at all, people are far to easily put off these day's. Another thing to think about is when you read something you don't get a persons true reaction, but just the words, which may sound gruff when in fact he may have just been a simple reply. My point is, if you have enjoyed his video's for so long, why would you give up watching them simply because you didn't like his tone? This isn't a sewing circle here.

I generally remove the top cap after putting the grease cartridge into the gun.
In the UK they're plastic and it makes it easier to remove in the gun.

GREAT stuff on your channels. Quick chain hack if it hasn't already been mentioned here in all these comments.
Lay your chain out on the ground flat. In the center, place a few pieces of wood cribbing (stacked) between the chain spaces.
Then drive your tire on top of the cribbing. The chains can then be pulled up over your tires and positioned to your liking since they'll be loose and not touching the ground. Easier to set your binders as well. Cheers.

If you use a separate chain, and hook it across the tire to the tractor.Then you could hook your binder to that, and stretch the spring as much as you need.

Hey Cody, I tip I found from working a job in Alaska is to put your lube products in a warm place during the winter. It makes it a lot nicer when you have to use it

I've used a large turnbuckle to help me center the binders on tire chains. It's a bit slow to pull them tight, but the hooks fit the ring and chain, and you just tighten it with a bar through the yoke.

I've found quite often that the plungers on new grease guns are deformed from rushed assembly and because of the deformation one edge of the plunger hangs up on the entry of the cartridge. So now in advance of use I inspect the plunger and will temporarily manually insert it into the end of the new cartridge and leave it for a couple of days to learn its shape. You don't open the poptop end till you are ready to do the final reassembly of the gun. Yes keeping your next tube of grease in a warmer location helps also. But this did correct a problem I had with my mini gun and was about to give up on it. having flexlines on the guns with the adjustable angle heads allows you access to some fittings that get blocked by attachments or implements that you aren't ready to remove. Oh I used to bid on and get preventative maintenance work at an industrial plant.

Something I use a lot that mite help with installing the tire chain is a ratchet strap used like a come along. In my trade I use a come along for everything and a ratchet strap works great as a miniature version. Awesome videos. Long time subscriber.
Mistake number one that a man should never make, confuse *tolerance* with *clearance*. Please, please learn the difference and never again conflate the two very different design concepts.
back up to a tree put a cable around the tree that has two loops back your tractor up put your tension device in the center Loop but the other end inside both loops then tighten it do not depend on using the chain wrapped around the tire PK CenterPoint with one cable with two loops make the cable long enough so that you can wrap it around the center post or you're Anchor Point several times to meet the distance for attaching your chains

I grew up working a ranch and still appreciate many of your tips and content. I've noticed many people haven't been tought correct way to just change a wheel, which can cause catastrophic failure ending in injury to both operater or passersby.

I built front end loaders and refitted and rebuilt 2nd hand ones for 6 years and cant tell you how many worn out loader pins and pin bushes I dealt with that had never seen a grease gun. I've never seen to much lubrication wear out machinery. P.S. I can tell you (as an Australian) how glad I am that the fluffy water doesn't fall on inland OZ!
Can I just say, I appreciate you making small errors or mistakes and leaving them in the final video. (I.e when the chain was trapped behind the tensioner and not getting the final link on) It would be so easy to edit them out and make yourself look greater than you are.
I feel you frustration..
When I was in the Air Force my job was towing large aircraft, and in the winter we (I) had to chain up a 26 ton tow tractor. I learned if you put the binders on with arm strength...evenly...then work your way around one link at a time to achieve the proper link length. Though I did this in a hanger....much drier.
Great heads up with the Mr. Funnel. I connect two rubber grease hoses together to create a long hose which is far easier to reach the hard to reach grease zerks.

Thread rope between ring in center, then to your outside links of the chain like a block and tackle and cinch them suckers up. I use this to install ditched chains, hope this helps!

Cody, try putting spring on 7th link and then stretch it to center ring and hook it. Sometimes the most obvious things you don't see, when you do you don't know why you didn't see it. Been there, done that.

If I can add my 2 cents. I always wipe the tips of my grease zerks with a clean rag before shooting grease in. That way your not
forcing dirt in along with the grease.
Cody thanks for being real. I would rather watch a video where someone might have a moment of being a butter finger and get frustrated then watch ones where everything has been edited out and the watcher believes that it was really easy to do.
Have had issues trying to get chains tightened even and usually a short spin up and down the driveway helps.

you could also string a short length of 1/8 cable through a chain link connect it into a loop with a crosby clamp, then you will have a better loop to hook your binder hook into.
Cody I've used chain binders on my chains just to connect the master link! Try making a small chain to hook your binder on instead of hooking the binder straight to the tire chain!!!
Lubrication tip.When you were greasing, I noticed the "angle" cylinders had no grease fittings, but they need lube too. There is a product call "Fluid Film" that is between grease and WD40. It comes in a spray can and is really good for those non-grease able joints. I also use it on battery post to control corrosion. This is an all around lube that heavy like grease but lite like WD40. Great stuff.
I like the green waterproof marine grease. It won't mix with water and become sludge. Excellent for anything that may come in contact with water (most things you're greasing).

You can also use your truck winch to tighten those binders with. Just roll forward so you're always pulling from the same position.
A little tip, if you use water proof wheel barring grease made for boat trailers it seems to last much longer.
That tool is called a Scribe. I love them, a tool box requirement. As far as hitting the grease fittings, on Aircraft, we hit them after every 60 hours of flight time or after every wash, very important to hit them after a wash!! Our Jets are 50+ years old are work great (KC-135).
I was a oilerman in a sawmill. Grease can save a lot of money. I now work in a Co-generation plant we use a CAT 950H to load our fuel we grease it every time we fill up.
Grease gun loading tip!! Load the new cartridge then thread the magazine on a couple of threads. Now release the plunger rod so the plunger starts pushing on the grease. Now finish tightening the magazine and this will help prime the grease into the pump. As a mechanic I have done it this way for years and it works 99% of the time. If it is cold and or you still have air trapped, just back off the Mag 3-4 turns then retighten.

couple things, to make priming the grease gun easier, only thread the pump head on about 2 turns, then release the spring plunger, this allows the air to go past the threads and as you thread the head on the rest of the way on it pushes grease into the pump. The type of grease is very important, that yellow grease you put in that gun is better for summer use, and is made for wheel bearing applications, it is too thick for winter. A #2 grease. with molybdenum is best for pin and bushing joints. There isn't a rule on how many pumps needed as it changes by the size of the joint and the amount of wear, your loader pins may fill up in two pumps now, but a couple yrs from now they may need four, always grease until you see some old grease coming out the gaps. Also, tire chains should be left slightly loose for maximum benefit, leave them tight and they work their way in between the lugs, they also wear on the tires in only one spot.
Preventive maintenance is the best way to prevent major problems. My dad taught me that from the first day I was with him in the shop. He said do the little things that way you avoid big things from happening. Love my dad he still teaches me stuff

Wranglerstar, as an alternative to coating the moldboard with diesel or oil maybe try pledge furniture wax, I have done this with hand shovels and it helps quite a lot keeping snow from sticking to the shovel. I hope Mrs. Wranglerstar feels better soon!
Hi Cody I reccomend using zip ties on the excess chains to keep them tight on the tensioners so they are not flopping about when you use the machine
