I think that's what he meant, my buddy and I worked for a Hutterite Colony last fall doing some ditch cleaning work while they were busy trying to get their crops off the fields before it rained or snowed. They were awesome to work with loaned us an extra laser receiver, fed us and lots! And did some welding for us. And always really nice people.

Every church should have a sense of community, I got very sick in fact I was paralyzed for seven months and could not work for over a year. Every bill was paid and no I did not take one penny from the government! Our church stepped up the people in our church overwhelmed us with kindness and love. And with finances. We are blessed beyond measure. It's fun to give but it's not always fun to receive it's very humbling. What a beautiful testimony.
And by the way like the end part of your video.
    Happy trails

What shame would there be if you did take from the government? That's why governments exist, to serve their people. Not everyone in my experience, almost no one has a community they can rely on. Things change, one day you might not either.

Your comments on community reminded me of the book 'Tribe' by Sebastian Junger. He talks about how American culture is so individualistic now, and the reason some veterans have trouble adjusting to civilian life is because they loved the communal/family aspects of the military and aren't finding that when they leave it. It's an awesome book.

Frank B Excellent idea. When I was about 9 or 10 years old, my father made a wooden tool chest for me, with a little assistance from myself, and started me off with a small collection of tools and a Wolf electric drill. Unfortunately my father died when I was 12, but although I am now well into my 70s, I still have fond memories of making that tool chest. Naturally I still have the tool chest and many of the original tools, and would not part with them. It would be a nice project if Cody built a tool chest for Jack, so that he could have a set of tools that he could call his own.

My father was a tool collector. This has made it extremely difficult to thin out redundant tools. So part of my solution has been finding other family members that need certain tools. This "keeps it in the family", and I don't have to keep 43 hammers, 60 screwdrivers, 14 crescent wrenches, etc..
    I love my Dad's tools...

Ingalls Creek Wilderness Outfitters You're mistaken. This is not lying. The definition of a lie is "An intentionally false statement". Cody's titles are not false statements, they are simply written in such a way to capture the attention of a viewer. If he would have said "Big giveaway at the end of the video!!! $1000 of dollars in prizes!!", that would be a lie. If he would have said anything that didn't have to do with the content of the video, it would have been lying. However Cody told about how he grew up in a way that is simmilar but different to the amish. So it is a suiting title, and not a lie.

    • @tanyabrown9839

People think because it is Amish made that it will last forever But that is far from the truth. Besides the cabinetry I haven't seen any problems with anything I have came across. There not what they use to be or in some cases they are which is not a good thing times change and codes change.

Ben Poliquin Well said Ben. You'll have plenty of time to pick up various life skills and maybe work on one or two while you're at university. Your degree is critically important though as it proves you know how to learn. Way back when I learned how to bake when I was in school. Seems very simple but it's a diminishing skill. Start a journal of things you want to learn and refer to it often. Settle on a couple and go for it. Good luck sir.

I may be wrong but that "strange" hammer with the square handle I believe is a old school sheet metal hammer. I am a sheet metal apprentice and we use one's very similar to that one. Square face that goes flat to the back. Maybe a classic trade hammer.

St Bu That's very interesting, here we use them as sheet metal hammers specifically. But the funny part is that it may be one of the most difficult to find here. I had to special order the one I have. Can't find them at any big bow stores, or smaller tool shops.

Here, here! Pretty wise counsel at many points in this video ...and title your videos as you see fit as they are a product of your creativity, not anyone else's. I always find that if I start watching a video, regardless of the title, and find that it is not interesting or not quite what I was looking for, it is pretty straight forward to browse the right hand column and select another video to view. I respect you for your honesty, your measure of "old-fashioned values" and the fact that you are not puritanical about stuff. Your opinion on tools is always worth listening to. I also like the fact that you have respect for items that belonged to your grandparents. I have a few items like that which are among my most treasured and most used tools. Keep up the good work.

There is truth to this. Any close knit community will soon fall into the trap of group think and if you don't think the same way as everyone else you become an outsider. This is just human nature. Part of me wants what Cody describes but another part wants to steer far clear of it. This world has just grown beyond the close knit community needs. Anymore if you piss someone off they call CPS on you or swat you, or spread rumors and try to destroy your standing in the community. I have even seen this in mainstream Baptist churches. It is to the point where you even fear to let your kids go to someone elses sunday school class because you don't know what kind of garbage they are filling your kid's head with. People just are not all on the same page anymore. I know my neighbors and I am available and willing to lend a hand where I can, but they don't want to become part of my extended family and I really don't want to become part of theirs.

It's better to have what Cody describes than what I live among. ALL my neighbors are crypto-jew Freemasons who follow the Talmud, practice Kabbalah witchcraft and worship Lucifer. One neighbor has a 7 ft tall statue of Baphomet/Lucifer in his FRONT yard. I have NO idea where I could go that it would be any better. Oh well, I know God has some purpose for keeping me here.
However, these folks are not welcomed into my home for as the bible says, 2 Corinthians 6:14, "Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?"

My wife and I truly do enjoy your videos and we are so glad that you're a big enough person to see past all the negativity. You always have great content and today was especially inspiring because I'm working on organizing my garage and trying to make a work space with all my tools being stored in a user friendly fashion. We have a duplex so that my mother and father could live next door. Along with that came double and triple the tools but we're working on that. My wife loves having them here and feels so blessed to be able to say that she loves having her in-laws just down the hall and through a door. We don't know many people who can say that. We have some neighbors who are a joy and sadly others who aren't so much so. We appreciate what you're saying about community and wish you and your family all the best. Your son is learning amazing things from you that will stay with him for life which is beautiful to see! He will grow up to be a fine man. You're doing a fine job with your channel and we hope you will keep at it! Thanks for the work you put into it. It is so much appreciated!

*Cody* There are 144 people in the town where I live. Our neighbors have helped me catch cows, and they've come knocking on my door at night to get pellets for their pellet stoves, the next town over someone lost their home to a fire-you should have seen the response! Everybody-knows-everybody kind of thing. Not many jobs right now within 70 mile radius, but we've got each other's backs. I grew up in this area, and want the same for my boys. You're right, lots of folks seem to be on an "island" these days. I hope we can all be better neighbors! Keep the videos coming! God Bless!

Just wanted to say thank you for the years of quality, free content. Your titles don't bother me. I think that sense of small community is something we are missing today. What a great feeling that must be to know that if you lose your job and or have severe health problems that there are people that have your back. I know people that cant even depend on their own family anymore. What a backwards world we live in. No wonder we all feel disconnected from one another and unhappy. Im 29 and feel like in some ways the generations that came before mine were happier and more satisfied in life.

We had fun as kids as we met each year at convention time and basically camped for a week and did church. Also, as you stated with your experience, my childhood church also had their drawbacks, but their Doctrine of Jesus Christ was sound and it helped established what I consider the foundation for my beliefs. Thanks again for all you do and God Bless.

I know this is a late comment to this video, but I have to say thank you for being inspirational. Not inspirational about hammers, per se, but that spark of what a true community should be.Wouldn’t it be incredible if we here in the US could return to the ways of actually knowing our neighbors and caring about them as we would care for our own family? That “old style” community is what kept people alive before there were any government run social services... and it worked! Thanks for sharing about the community that you grew up in.
