I have 2 Pure Elan Connect + radios I use in the kitchen and bathroom. Nice displays like the Majority Fitzwilliam 3 and when on battery the select button switches it off completely. I use 1900mAh Ikea Ladda NiMH and in a side by side test I did these beat standard Duracells. It was something like 7 hours of continuous playback, and about 15 mins less for the Duracell.
Thanks. When you make a sub-optimal purchase it’s tempting to go in two-footed, to use a football analogy. It’s not quite what I wanted and it has obvious flaws, but for many it would be fine and I should have done a bit more research 🙄
I live in Ireland where DAB does not operate as it was discontinued last year! However,I think I can pick up almost every DAB station available on my Roberts 94i. Supermarkets like aldi, lidl and tesco still sell FM/DAB radios nonetheless even though only FM works. Anyway, my point is,surely you are better off just buying a decent internet radio which covers all angles?
Yes, and Internet radio is generally better quality. But the fact that stream formats get discontinued, bricking perfectly good sets, worries me. At least some of the later Roberts / Pure ones can have software updates to keep them compatible.
I've just been given an original Pure Evoke 1, which is DAB only, no FM. If/when the UK turns off DAB, and goes completely DAB+, this radio becomes a brick.
The batteries will only supply the power the radio takes. However there could well be an issue in the case of an internal short circuit condition, where rechargeables can supply a lot of current. I wouldn't expect that to be an issue with modern digital radios, but yes I'd be very careful retrofitting rechargeables to 70s radios and would include a fuse.
Isn’t Majority a strange brand name? It makes you wonder if the PCB & display in this radio is designed for use in a bedside clock radio that is meant to be plugged in to the power 24/7 and not really suitable for use as a portable radio. This radio reminds me very much some of the Aldi DAB radios. Call me picky but I don’t like labels just stuck onto the panel without a cut out for the label to sit into. Just a bugbear of mine!
I've never been able to find out why they branded themselves as Majority. They are based in Cambridge (though clearly the products aren't manufactured there) and use names from the area. I suspect anything with Cambridge in the name has been used by many existing audio companies.

"Streamed the impossible stream" gets an instant thumb-up.
A good honest review.

I noticed that some dab radios say Not to use rechargeable batts as they are too powerful! ????
