    Nice job Captain, Great handling. You have a beautiful boat, very clean and looks very well maintained.. I would die for that engine room, We have a 1980 43DCFB, no engine room just engine space..lol and that means space for engines not me. We also stern into a narrow slip. No thrusters nor are they needed, we do have Naiad Stabs

      Much appreciated. That engine room was a pre-req for buying one like this, there is no way I would own some of the ones we work on. It can be a real struggle and if everything is hot, forget it. Love the Naiads we thought about adding them.

    Very impressive. Fun to see a real yachtsman and first mate doing the ship handling thing. Amazing condition on what is now a classic vessel. Congratulations!

    First class operation. This capt is not a newbie. Idling diesels are real music in that spotless engine room. Good video! Thank you!

      And thank you for the props and checking us out. We really try to get clips of everything to share so folks can see all aspects of what is going on. Do love some 2 cycle diesel tones as well.

    Very interesting to see a boat that I helped to build so many years after. I was at Hatteras in New Bern NC back in 1987-1989 on line 5 which was only 65' Convertibles. I was in station 6 which was the interior cabinets, headliners, outside portholes, main door, guest and crew staterooms build, and the padded walls, etc... Nice!!

      Thank you for watching and the comment. That is really exciting to hear you worked the line for these in their hey day, that must have been one heck of an interesting job. The longevity of these battleships is a testament to your team's fine workmanship.

    That was an excellent video, informative (I am always looking for things to add to my checks AND I really enjoyed the virtual cruise with you. Great footage underway!

      Appreciate the feedback, and one thing we did not mention, because we admit to making some assumptions, is we check the engines often while underway and have 4 cameras down there.

    Thank you for an excellent video, very informative and enjoyable! I was curious what it would be like to run a larger yacht, but now I know it's out of my league. MAGNIFICENT yacht BTW!

      Don't sell yourself short my friend, you should definitely have someone along to help you, but you just build a routine and practice it, document it, use it. Thank you for watching.

      Thank you! It takes ongoing work, but is worth it when you don't get "slimed" for working in there, and you can see if anything is amiss right away.

    Really enjoy your vids. This was a good mix of maintenance and cruising. Love seeing that high speed wake. Even like the shaft seals and some active stabilizer shots would be cool if you have them. Thanks

    • @XERyder
      @XERyder  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you, glad to hear it. We actually do not have stabilizers yet, but are considering a Naiad system. We did get a shot of the dripless shaft seals here, but we could expound on that in a future episode.

    Just found you! I’d love to see a video focused on close-quarters handling, and then how/when you transition to the wheel.

    😂 I ran a 65c for several years out of Lauderdale and we didn’t have half of the gizmos you have especially thrusters.

      Nice, what was the HID or name of the vessel at the time? What did you have for mains in it? Enclosed FB? Always like to hear about fellow 65C hulls.

    its a battleship.... i used to live in a marina where a couple handled it regularly. was different when diesel was a dollar a gallon....

    Now that is a ship. Quick question: have you ever considered a fly-by-wire for steering and throttle, either as primary or back up?

    • @XERyder
      @XERyder  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank you. As most final steering mechanisms (at the rudder) remain hydraulic today, it works fine as a full hydro and from two stations plus the auto-pilot pump, pretty efficient. Since I do all close quarter maneuvers with the transmissions with rudders at 0º and auto-pilot handling the navigation, I just don't spend much time on the wheel honestly. Now servos on the throttles though... it could still happen, and would be a nice upgrade. Great question.

    Any fuel burn numbers on that ol Hatt?

    • @XERyder
      @XERyder  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi there! Yes at hull speed (about 11kt) it burns 20-25gph, and on top the water (up to 22kt depend on fuel/water carried) 65-75gph - both numbers also vary by sea condition and intake (ambient) air temp.
