Going to focus on aligning the top of my housing like you talked about! Also I totally know what it's like having kids and shooting the bow. 100 questions at full draw! Lol

She came out of the box smoking hot @75lbs DW. Her name is Sadie and I love her. Seriously though, I'm so glad that I seen this video tonight because now I know I need a smaller peep as I could see a ring of daylight around the housing. I didn't even think to ask, just thought I had to center everything up. Defiantly going to get that worked out in the morning. And I'll probably have them back it off 15lbs as well so it's alot more comfortable for me and I can focus more on my form for now. As you can tell, I'm so stoked that I'm probably not going to sleep much tonight lmao
Hi Nate, I had this same issue you mentioned and also found that slightly readjusting my anchor point on my cheek further from my ear and closer to my mouth reduced the gap almost all the way and tighted my groups.
Just bought my first bow today bear cruzer g3 i had the rear peep sighted but i believe i didnt get the right look down it didnt touch nose just lip on disc and was able to see my sights but i didnt check for the ring rookie mistake went to shoot it same day and was lining up my shot for bullseye and was hitting high everytime i realized my mistake on it put my nose to the string and cant see my first dot or top of ring through the peep sight but shot it that way and was getting my shots in bullseye and close to it gonna have to go back to the shop to get realigned! 😅
I didn’t even know this was a thing…I’ve been shooting all over the place..grouping well but in random spots. Often to the right. My peep is a little twisted now too.
this actually help a lot because i just recently started using sight because wanted to shoot more then 90ft. and it is pretty difficult without sights and also i picked up a new bow to me and it had sights on it! i went from a mandarin duck phantom 56 30in draw 45draw weight to a PSE flash with 29inch draw and 70draw weight
Great timing. I set up a new bow for the upcoming season. My groups from 30 and beyond were terrible so I moved down to a 3/16 peep (from 1/4) and that fixed the issue. Now I'm worried that in low light I'm not going to be able to see through it well. Guess I'll have to see. Anyway, great video, your videos are always very helpful.
This is great advice. I never would have thought of touching the ring to the top of the peep. I have the Fast Eddy with that massive MRT scope about half way back on the dovetail and it's still too small for a 1/8th peep. Gonna try this.

I understand the concept, but I’m a bow hunter , I don’t shoot comp anymore, 1/4” peep at dusk and dawn trumps 1/8 or 3/16 in deer hunting! I’ve shot deer out to 53yds with my 1/4” peep all the way to 5 yards and all in between!
Good video but rifle shooters shooting peeps would have the same problem but the theory is the brain naturally centers the front sight in the rear peep. That’s how a practiced shooter can hit consistently at 100+ yards with a peeped rifle. I would think the same should apply here. I shoot a large 1/4” hunters peep and have for years. When I get my anchor I just relax and let my brain center the front pins right in the center just like when I shoot my 30-30 which is peeped as well. I have had no issue shooting groups at 30-40 yards that have arrows slapping each other. I don’t do target btw.
I shoot field archery and have located my peep to be centered when my sight is dialed to 40 yards as that is the mid point between my max and min yardage that I have to shoot for field. This means when I shoot at 10 or 70-80 yards my peep isn’t centered on my scope housing. Are you saying that the peep sight should always be centered on your scope housing? I can see that for a hunting setup at shortened range of distances but it doesn’t seem to work when there is a large range of distances.
Love this video. But what if my peep is to small for my sight housing? How should I line that up? I have my sight out as far as it will go and a 1/4 inch peep. BUt still cant see the full outer ring of my housing. Would aligning the top of the housing to the top of the peep still be best? Even if that keeps me from seeing my level?
What is the best aperture to run indoors with a Shrewd Mini Mag 29mm? Currently using a Hamskea 1/16 aperture but noticed a ring of light around my scope. Would 1/32 or even the smallest 3/64 be better?
Great video and content. Somewhat related to this, have you ever done a video on recommendations and pros & cons around how far to position your sight from the riser? With today's dovetail mounts such as my Black Gold Ascent Verdict, I hear some people say push the sight out as far as it'll go, and then others say to keep it closer to the riser. There seems to be a lot of differing opinions.
Like I state in the video, you have two options: move your sight to match your peep, or change your peep to match your sight, and push your sight out relatively far. The latter is the preferred method as accuracy is best achieved with your aiming points farther way from each other. However, for the normal bowhunter at home, moving the sight in and out to match their already chosen peep size is much easier to accomplish.
@@averagejackarchery Thanks! I'll try playing around with it to line the peep up like you suggested. I might try going to a larger 1/4" peep this year to let more light in, and also hopefully improve my ability to see 50+ yards. At almost 60 years old, I struggled at 60 and 70 yard distances last year :-) I think I can also order a larger 2" housing for my sight.
Fairly new archer here and had a question on what exactly I'm suppose to see when looking through my peep sight? I have a Blackgold Dual Trac with the bright green housing. Am I supposed to be seeing the entire green housing or should the green part be covered up and if I see it then I know I'm not aligned properly? I was using a 3/16" peep, but couldn't see any of the green so I moved up to a 1/4", but now I see daylight around my sight housing which got me thinking what exactly am I supposed to see through the sight? Moved the sight closer to me on the riser, but still see daylight around the housing. Depending on what should see I was either going to move back to 3/16" or try a 7/32" peep. Thoughts? Thanks for all the great videos and good luck this season!
I think my peep sight is too high or to low. I struggle to bring my bow arm up to get the pin on target (my shoulder is down) so I'm thinking it could be my sight position? Any ideas/ suggestions. Thank you from an frustrated "below" average archer. 🏹🤠👍
Would you like to know how many arrows I've had to re-fletch for the same reason as you?? More than I care to think about !! But, at least I didn't "Robin Hood" the arrows (I've had a few of those too) !!!
I’m having an issue where I feel like I have to bring my head and neck forward and down a lot so I can get a good look into my peep. If I keep my head up in a neutral position my peep is all the way to the right. How do I correct this ? :/
Well I guess this comes with another question that I am currently having problems with. When you set your peep height for a distance lets say 50 yards, how do you set your sight tape up because at 100 yards without changing your anchor point the sight is completely out of frame. If you do change your anchor point it is almost impossible to find a sight tape that works.
That means your maximum distance for you to shoot a target with that particular bow is the lowest set on site tape that you can see in frame ! Back in the day I would line my peep up with my arrow tip for my 100yd target

Old video but got a question, I got a new Mathews v3x at 66lbs 29.5 inch draw. Noticing when i draw back and look through my peep I can see my cables off to the right side of the peep. Guy at shop said it’s normal but any bow I have ever had( Hoyt turbo, reign 7, prime centergy) I NEVER have seen the cables before. I aim using the sight system that lets the dove tale go inside the riser. Not sure if that matters or not but it’s really weird! Is this normal??
@@averagejackarchery It got the standard from the shop when I got it, checked timing, got my peep in, aligned the rest, paper tuned, although I wasn’t satisfied with the paper as it’s ever slightly tearing knock right. Tech said there’s not much to do for it since Mathews has a certain yolk system and since I don’t have the integrated rest I can move the rest much further. So idk I might have to take it to a Pro shop, usually I tinker with it as much as I can without a bow press.
Thanks for your tip! But I got a question here, the peep size looks different under different lighting, it's much smaller under sunshine and much bigger in dawn or evening, if align the top edge, the angle will be different, and might be shooting high in darker situations?
Only practice will tell you that! I find that when that happens with me, my ability to shoot distance also shrinks. The closer the shot as light fades or gathers, means wider margin of error for accuracy with a peep that isn't perfectly aligned. I find for me especially, I have a bad left-right alignment the darker it gets. I'll group left by ~2-3" at 30 yards but the time legal light has completely expired.
I think no I’m sure I have this problem but I also getting to old and bad eyes even with the correct glasses on but I just can’t stop chasing them deer 👍✌🏻🇺🇸
I use em till they start flying crazy or making noise ! If ur bows tuned properly a arrow with 1 tore fletching and missing 2 others completely will impact same as new arrow

Im a new shooter, and my peep sight is good. But a problem i have (at least i think) is that from 8 o'clock to 10 o'clock my sight ring is behind my riser. (Left hand shooter). My groupings are good, but all videos i see say you should see the whole ring in your sight..is it normal or should i go to my local tech?

I will ask, how do you aim with glasses on; I just started but i look at the pin through the middle of my glasses, and it’s not clear. How should I fix this?
@@averagejackarchery I am nearsighted, my optometrist says contacts won't help my vision, I have looked at sights that have a magnification but not sure if it will be the same as looking at the target without drawing my bow. They are from a builder actually in my hometown! Nate at BowFreak Stabilizers does excellent work and when I asked for a custom set to match my target rig he did not disappoint. www.bowfreakstabilizers.com/shop
i must be an anomaly because my pro shop dropped me 2-3 peep sizes down to fix double vision after switching to my thumb release and all it did was make my target more blurry i was much better and more consistent and more accurate with the bigger peep lmfao
I like to use a large peep for the light gathering ability. My sight housing has nothing to do with my aiming process. I never look at my level, either. If I don’t get too lazy, I usually remove the level.
Better yet, use a single pin - then you can ignore the front scope/sight housing all together and just center the pin with your peep. Use a small peep and your brain will automatically want to centre the pin.
Its not babysitting when its your kid. Really wish the world would quit normalizing that fathers dont have an inherent duty to take care of their own kids.
Please stop. You have no clue how a peep works. You do not align in around the housing. Old sights back in the day had no housings. Rifle sights had a bladed front sight with a brass bead on top. No front government like a target rifle. The peep is simply to look through. Your BRAIN centers it for you. You just look at the pin you plan to use and your brain does the rest. All you TH-camrs are telling this all wrong. You need to be old like me to understand how peeps work. You all need some peep education. Let me explain. By aligning the peep hole around your sight housing, the one ok. That will be the clearest is the one closest to the center of the housing. This is why you are to just look through that hole and pick the pin you plan to use and stare at it and your target. Then forget the peep is even there. Please, please get educated on how a peep works before you get everyone who follows you t hi inking you are right, and we end up with thousands of archers doing it wrong, and doing another step they don’t have to do.
Old housings couldn't have peep alignment, rifles aren't bows, and modern technology has drastically allowed better accuracy across the board with modern target scopes and sight housings. I don't know of a single competitive archer that changes the anchor position of the peep to center it around a pin. If they do, good for them! But us remaining mortals will continue to shoot this way with tremendous success.

I might try going to a larger 1/4" peep this year to let more light in, and also hopefully improve my ability to see 50+ yards. At almost 60 years old, I struggled at 60 and 70 yard distances last year :-) I think I can also order a larger 2" housing for my sight.
Good video. How would you look to align your peep when shoot a single pin slider ?
It's the same whether its a single pin or fixed pin. Peep ring lines up on sight housing.
2 questions ,what is your target bow , and what arrows were those ? awesome advice and video btw bro !
That's a Rezult 38, and the arrows Sirius Supernovas.
@@averagejackarchery thank you brother for your reply .
Wicked advice
From the furthest distance that I have shot, my groupings look like that: I haven't gotten past the 5-yard marker yet. 😎😂
Great content as always.
Can’t wait to try this
Can a peep be to small? What size the pro shooter use for target comp.
Yes, it can be. If you can't see the ring of your sight housing, the peep is too small.
Where did you get the clip on sun visor?
My blinder on my hat brim? Made by Gunstar. Shoot me an email at averagejackarchery@gmail.com if you're into getting one. Ship to your door from the shop. Orders over $100 ship free. Check out averagejackarchery.com for more! Way more available than what's currently on the website.
What do you think about the mathews mxz solo cam?
A dinosaur by compound standards! But definitely a quality built bow even by today's standards.
Do u line up your peep on the pin on the bow
I line up the two rings of the peep and sight housing. The pin(s) stay fixed within the housing and I move the whole set together.
Many bows and shooters have this combined issue. Has the bow been tuned?
@@averagejackarchery It got the standard from the shop when I got it, checked timing, got my peep in, aligned the rest, paper tuned, although I wasn’t satisfied with the paper as it’s ever slightly tearing knock right. Tech said there’s not much to do for it since Mathews has a certain yolk system and since I don’t have the integrated rest I can move the rest much further. So idk I might have to take it to a Pro shop, usually I tinker with it as much as I can without a bow press.
@@1william89 look up elk shape he's got a video on setting up his v3x may give you some info
Oh come on now let's have Troy indulge us with his wisdom as well on this peep issue 🤣🤣🤣👍
What diameter do consider a large/small sight housing?
For generic, hunting style sights, anything less than 2" is definitely on the smaller side.
Start the fire! What dribble. I don’t hunt paper
Good video
Are you still going to use the pierced vane or replace it immediately?
I used it until I damaged another fletch. Lol. Then I refletched everything.
@@averagejackarchery ok, then we’re the same. Lol
I use em till they start flying crazy or making noise ! If ur bows tuned properly a arrow with 1 tore fletching and missing 2 others completely will impact same as new arrow
What uv light is that for your pins?
Check out Illumapin Sight Lights! Made in USA right in Michigan. Ben, the owner, knows his stuff! Great prices too. He even offered a 10% discount code AJA10 at checkout. I don't make a dime! Just a good deal for a good friend.
Something is definitely off. If your riser blocks your sight, either a) you have an enormous sight housing, or b) something is out of tune.
Me: great group!!!
Him: this is terrible!!!
Is your daughters name Sophie? I ask, cause that’s my daughters name and her grandparents have called her soph. Anyways great video, always learn a bunch. I will ask, how do you aim with glasses on; I just started but i look at the pin through the middle of my glasses, and it’s not clear. How should I fix this?
True story, I have no idea how to fix stuff with glasses yet! I only myself started shooting last October with them. 😬 Are you near or far sighted?
@@averagejackarchery I am nearsighted, my optometrist says contacts won't help my vision, I have looked at sights that have a magnification but not sure if it will be the same as looking at the target without drawing my bow. If you ever figure it out, please do a video on it. Thanks, and if I come up with a system I'll send you a dm.
How many takes did it take for that last group?? ;)) just kidding, great video. I actually was lining it up at the bottom, but will try changing to line it up at the top now!
Believe it or not that was just my second group of the day!!! I'm just as surprised as you are. Lol
I’m running the same sight, and do have 1/4” peep. What size peep are you running that you find fits the cbe engage housing well?
Like I say in the video, for my 31" draw and the sight all the way out, I run a 5/32" peep.
Which you bow is that?Elite Ritual 35 or?
Rezult 38
What brand of stabilizers are those?
You could just move your sight back some and it help fill that giant hole of a big peep
If you watch the whole video, I addressed that around 2/3 of the time through.
Great
Better yet, use a single pin - then you can ignore the front scope/sight housing all together and just center the pin with your peep.
Use a small peep and your brain will automatically want to centre the pin.
You blink every time you let the shot off
I dropped a peep and went with a nose button.
"All you guys shooting 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90 or even 100 yards" lol which is it?
