    People forget how good Drexler was,at one point there was a legitimate debate of who was the best 2guard him or MJ(which after they met in the Finals was never brought up again lol)...Great list, the only change I would make is a guy I know you didn't see play named Jerry West(the logo) should be on it,he's probably the 3rd or 4th greatest guard of all time&I'd take Harden off...I know he has a lot of fans but imo he's overrated. I feel like he benefit from traveling &the new rules more than anyone & you can't build a team around him for him to lead,he's better as a 2nd or 3rd option, just look at his failures in the playoffs as the man in Houston...again before ppl bash me in the comments that's my opinion

      @@VikingShoppl I agree 100%...Unfortunately I think a lot of the older players get overlooked by today's generation because they believe if you don't jack up 18 3's a game then you can't play. They don't understand that before Curry it was considered a bad shot & a lot of the older players could shoot from distance but didn't because either the coach wouldn't allow it or it wasn't a high quality shot.

      Exactly! In the 1980s, Isaiah Thomas was in second place 3-pt shooting with 29% (RS '83) success rate as the craft was just being learned. The players, on the other hand, did many other things (for example, they defended!). Thinking about defense, I remembered Dennis Johnson (PG or SG?).

    • @ptmrwithzo
      @ptmrwithzo 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@VikingShoppl That's the argument I always have with ppl.Now a days you're "special" if you're a 2 way player but back in the 80's you had to be effective on both sides of the ball. Not taking anything away from today's top players, but ppl forget that today's game has been made easier to score intentionally for ratings. There's a lot of players today putting up 20ppg but wouldn't be able to play back then & struggle to get 10ppg from the physicality alone. Any guy that could average 20+ppg back then with hand checking & all of the hits that wasn't a foul would probably put up 35+ppg playing today. Prime example is Curry, for as great of a shooter he is & I am a fan of his, he wouldn't have lasted back then because 1,he wouldn't have wide open 3's,2,there was real centers & PF in the paint so it would be difficult to score in the paint& 3rd,he wouldn't have the space to dribble the way he do, he would get bodied up & probably hurt because physicality is his weakness.

    first of all, about Reggie Miller, we got people watching and into the game that were either not ALIVE during the peak of Reggie's career but people that were and are still here to talk about it, theyll all tell you something similar. he wasnt great on defense but he was above average. he had a tremendous basketball iq, he was tenacious and tough as they come and he was the most clutch player in the league aside from MJ but even there you'd have an arguement to say it was Miller. this man wasn't just an all time great when it came to shooting, nah, this man would rattle off 12 three pointers in 2 quarters and be 12/15 from behind the arc with the 12 coming on a streak of consecutive 3s with no misses. him and Ray Allen are very similar players as far as the style of their game and their beautiful jump shots. reggie was just ugly so people dont realize LMAO . you gotta remember that there was NO ONE on those eastern conference finals games against the bulls aside from Mark Jackson who was an all time great playmakers but he didnt have a big man to just feed the ball to or to open up shots for him on a high level. you literally had the 2 best players in the league on the same team with the 90s bulls. my boy Reggie is a killer but he might not even be the best basketball player in his immediate family as his sister was a superstar.

    Any player on a top 10 list, even at #10 is ranked really high....there are probably a hundred amazing shooting guards since the history of the league in the mid 40's.. I know I can name a ton of them all elite scorers at their peaks...
    Since I prefer mostly oldschool, here's 10 often forgotten SGs I consider way up there:
    Jerry West (One of the best shooters throughout the 60's and early 70's)
    Earl Monroe (Loved the Pearl he was flashy and fun to watch, especially with the Bullets)
    David Thompson (Rediculous talent, MJ before MJ pretty much)
    Charlie Scott (elite scorer on bad Suns teams till he got to Boston and helped them win another title)
    Sam Jones (the ultimate clutch shooter in the Finals!)
    Hal Greer (Another great clutch shooter)
    Phil Chenier (before injury he was one of the best shooting guards of the 70's, nice replacement to the Pearl in Washington)
    Paul Westphal (Elite scoring guard for the Suns in the late 70's, took them to the Finals once and got close a few more times)
    Pete Maravich (stuck on bad teams unfortunately, but he could do it all offensively)
    Andrew Toney (ask the Celtics in the early 80's about him lol)

    I like your series Mustard, but think you are a little disrespectful to players who came before 1985 (perhaps before your time), and while I agree that players and the league has gotten better and better (greater athleticism and skill sets), there have always been players who pushed the envelope and played ahead of their time. One thing I have found interesting is to trace player development at different positions (and different sizes) over the course of NBA history. One thing I noticed is that all the really great guards prior to George Gervin and David Thompson (mid-70's) were pretty much combo guards who possessed the greatest perimeter skill sets of their time, and one of the very best all around, 2-way guards that you left out was Walt Frazier, who co-led the Knicks to 2 out 3 titles (and 6 straight EC finals) and resembled the IT led Pistons in certain ways. Another wizard who came along was Pete Maravich, though he didn't play much D, wrecked his knees pretty early on, and never really played for a contender.
