@@Tariguz1990 yeahhhh... no. The real reason is because Kojima was a big fan of Sutherland and his show 24, and wanted him to voice the main character in his video game. There was no genius behind it. I don't think he cared about the English VA all that much anyway, since he wanted to replace Hayter for MGS3.
But in the end, Venom turned out to be an awful "character" with none of the personality and charm of the previous protagonists. And MGS5, while not awful, is one of the weakest entries in the series.

+Autobot175 I'm getting really tired of people making a big deal about him not being Snake. In MGSV you aren't playing Solid Snake, you are playing someone completely different than him. You don't even see Solid Snake in the game and if you did he would probably sound like Hayter. Hayter wasn't needed for MGSV and the plot wouldn't have worked if he was Snake.

ŻuKu PL'ayer But you're not playing Big Boss don't you get that? The twist was set up so you wouldn't suspect Ishmael to be the actual Big Boss. If David Hayter played Ishmael and Big Boss the twist would have been more obvious than it already was. If you want to compare, you can find some monologues with Kiefer Snake talking more, but in the game he barely talks in the first place.
Many dont know but David Hayter is actually a prolific screenwriter. He wrote the script for original Xmen, X2, and Watchmen. He deserves more credit than just his voice acting

While I don't agree with the decision to make him Venom Snake/Big Boss, it didn't ruin the character for me. But Kojima has weird tastes. He ORIGINALLY wanted Kurt Russell over anyone. He based the entire character of Snake after Kurt Russell's character of Snake Pliskin from the Escape from New York and L.A. movies.

Considering how they transform every actor for Superhero roles (Tom Hardy as Bane, Henry Cavil as Superman, Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, Chris Hemsworth as Thor and more), it is extremely feasible to transform Hayter's body into Snake's. Hell, he could just wear a green suit and they could CG the body onto him honestly I mean look at how ridiculously perfect The Hulk looks in Avengers 2 lol. A 3 month workout program with proper diet on a beginner (Assuming he hasn't lifted ever or not in recent years) will yield fast, crazy results. Plus Hollywood actors are using small steroid doses for their roles to get the body in time and keep it. Hayter as Snake is very likely. Google it btw they hired a screenwriter for the movie and it looks very likely that the MGS movie will release in two years or so.

In my opinion it would be best to keep David as Naked Snake, while Kiefer would voice only Venom
David is great for Solid Snake and Naked Snake, but his Big Boss voice was literally Old Snake. Kojima himself said that Kiefer was chosen because he can better display the facial expressions of a man like Boss in his 40s and voice it better. I think Kiefer Sutherland does a great Big Boss while David Hayter does a great Solid Snake.
I think people who say this are not keeping in mind that the Japanese voice actors stayed the same, as well as Otacon's voice actor to Huey's and so on.

One of my friends was working at an airport in the US about 15 years ago. David Hayter came through one day at passport checking, and when my friend say his ID, he said "Solid Snake?" Hayter looked at him, smiled and in Snake's voice said "That's right!".
