Thanks for the compliment. I've been thinking a lot about whether to remove this video, but I agree with you that it would serve as a great reminder of how things looked in late 2024. So, I'll leave it in place. As Pali is rebuilt (and it will be), and even if it takes decades, this will be a time capsule of sorts.
As a Cali native, I hate that it took a tragedy to help your video gain views but plz never delete this. You've given everybody one last look at a historic neighborhood.
Thank you. The footage is from late August and early September. It's really been heartbreaking to see the news footage of a lot of those neighborhoods.
I had never heard of this part of California until the fire; I'm a native Texan. Now, that I've viewed this video I must admit I feel more empathy for the community - it was definitely a beautiful place with great architecture.
I am born and raised in Southern California. Watching this video on 1-10-25. Very sad to see. My prayers 🙏 to all of you here in Southern California who lost your homes and loved ones due to these horrific fires.
Well done. Please, don’t delete this video. This will be one of the memories left. I pray for inner strength and peace for those that lost their homes. May God bless them and restore all they have lost. Amen
It's hard to see such a nice community and landscape burned to the ground in ashes. Praying for those who lost their homes. We will come back stronger! 🙏
This was beautiful. Oh my gosh, the clarity of the view is amazing. The landscaping, both natural and fixed is so nice. Post card perfect. It is very important to keep this video up.
I'm sure you didn't think you were documenting history at the time - but as someone who lives in LA I know many are thankful this video exists as you did such a great job featuring the neighborhood.
My grandparents lived at the tip of a mesa in Pacific Palisades just down from WIll Rogers State Park. It was a huge part of my development and I spent gobs of time here. It is all gone now.
💔😢🙌 Don't delete. Not sure how it ended up on my news feed but I'm sure this will serve as a great memory for those who have lost everything. Maybe it will bring great comfort to them. To what was and what will be. Starting over is hard but it can be done. Born and raised in South Central Los Angeles and I never knew how beautiful it was. #PrayingForCali
I was here many times in the mid-90's. Absolutely beautiful place. Happy I got to experience this area before the tragedy. Praying for all the lost souls.
Imagine losing your little community, so very sad.. we left Carmel valley village, we lived in a high fire zone.. it's a gem of a town, with stunning views and food.. Cafe Rustica, Corkscrew, Folktale Winery... and nice people.. can't imagine it burned being to the ground. Horrible. Imagine losing everything overnight, it is unbelievable.
I am sure it will be high rise multimillion dollar condos that will be developed with developers trying to recoup their land purchase costs and making hefty profits. Of course the politicians will welcome this for obvious reasons.
Gavin is reimagining LA. After reimagining Snow White and other classics, what could go wrong? Especially with Gavin and Black rock in charge of rebuilding. Gavin can’t fill a reservoir or stop a fire, but he’s going to rebuild and stop the weather. Sure.
As an Australian who has seen many tragic bushfires (wildfires) over the years, I'm frankly shocked at the amount of trees, hedges, and thick scrub surrounding the homes. Australia is the driest country on the planet and the most fire prone continent. We have learned how to live in fire prone areas. It's so sad to see these beautiful places decimated. Unfortunately when you get prolonged drought after a season of heavy rain plus unusually strong winds like we do, unless regular backburning is carried out you can expect disaster. Also I wonder how much timber was in the structure of the homes. Judging by the force and power of these fires I doubt much could be done to save the Palisades.
Agree totally! Los Angeles seems to have more eucalyptus trees near houses than most cities in Australia. They explode with the extreme heat. Very sad to watch from the other side of the world.
@@georgettea7836 Eastern Australia is basically a eucalyptus forest for thousands of kilometres. I live an hour north of Sydney and there are eucalyptus forests in every direction, in fact I'm looking out my window at 3 massive trees right now. The difference is we have regular backburns in the cooler months to control fuel load buildup, which doesn't work 100% because there's just too much to burn, but at least it gives firefighters a chance.
These neighborhoods were all developed in the Hollywood era over the past 100 years. Everyone wanted a freestanding house on a quiet, treelined street. Privacy dictated huge hedges. Wealth allowed lush landscaping. No one ever thought that this fairytale setting could all burn in one day. Now we know.

The before video tour of the palisade area and the after tour from the catastrophic fires from just last week and continues on greetings from Canada thanks for sharing this video 🇨🇦
This makes me sad seeing this while we’re now on day 5 of the Palisades fire. I live in Hollywood but would frequent the area to pick up and drop off for ride share. I would also charge up my Tesla in the downtown areas swanky parking garage right off of Sunset Blvd and enjoy the neighborhood shopping, sights and sounds, get coffee or just strolling. It had so many cute shops and things to do. Even came on other days to do some hiking for those astonishing views of the ocean. Malibu, the magnificent PCH, Topanga and the Pacific Palisades are hands down my favorite parts of LA. The peace and beauty it gave to us Los Angelenos has always been treasured and was a special place for me to visit. We even had hopes to afford a place there someday. Beautiful community. Can’t believe it is all completely leveled and destroyed 😢 God and universe, please send the rains so there is no more destruction in the other neighboring communities! Sending prayers to all the families that are effected by this tragedy 💛🙏🏽
Devastating to see this video in hindsight. Pacific Palisades will rebuild and will look better than before I am confident. My heart goes out to everyone for their loss. Looking forward to seeing the before and after videos. Good luck to everyone!
If they are going to rebuild they should rebuild with bricks and concrete, not wood. Also use composite decking and not wood for outdoor decks. Build back smarter and safer!
They also need a governor and fire chief that keeps the fire hydrants full of water in case of another fire and cleans the brush. And not lay off staff that tend to fires. In Canada we are sending fire crews and water bomb equipment out to LA to combat and help

This video is now priceless. It will be decades before this area is rebuilt. The costs of re-construction will be too much for even the average rich even if they carried some insurance because building labor and materials were scarce and expensive even before the fire but will get worse now. New public infrastructure will also be needed and the costs for that would come from taxes which are already high.
I'm not good at prediction, but I think you might be right that it will take decades. I was on Google Maps this morning looking at Paradise, CA where the Camp Fire hit in 2018. There are many empty lots and the houses that are new(ish) are sporadic. Palisades is a different situation -- being part of a large metro -- but I fear that history with rhyme.
5:20 - I have been obsessed with this house since I saw it on the map but couldn't find any photos of it so thank you so much for adding it in this video. It's 1,000 times more impressive than I thought. Talk about luxury! I wonder who owns it? It's probably not even their primary home.
