Howdy Folks! Thanks for all the kind comments. I'd like to respond to the numerous posts about the kids "not paying attention": The kids were actually a fantastic and fun group of dancers! I think the editing of this video is a little misleading because the videographer came when class was almost over for the day (in addition to a long day of school) and asked me to repeat a lesson, which I had already taught the kids many times, over the course of an entire semester. They were all just doing their best to be polite and quiet while the video was being filmed. :-) Part of the class was arts and crafts time, which is why some of the kids are messing around with color crayons and such on their boards. I really love and miss these kids! They all brought their heart and soul to the class and each of them put a lot of thought into inventing their own unique steps, some of which I still teach in classes to this very day. Most kids really have a hard time sitting still! This is why I'm especially proud of the behavior of my friends in this bunch. They were all being so mindful of the fact that someone was shooting a video!

Great lesson! Thank you! If you ever make this video again, or another like it, I hope the camera won't cut your feet out of the picture. Maybe it was because of an ad at the bottom on TH-cam, but I see this happen far too often in dance videos. This was good information, presented in a very clear way. It is crucial that the feet are in the shot completely at all times. It seems obvious to us, but people who shoot film must be trained to get smiles and expressions in the shot, sometimes head and shoulder shots, at the expense of illustrating the information being presented. Even Fred Astaire had to put it in his contracts to never cut his feet out of a shot when he was dancing.

Would I be correct in saying the roll and the knees don't have a sound? So the first eight provides the percussion?

That must have been pretty tough trying to show the moves to an uninterested audience - they were far too young to pay attention. However, I enjoyed it :)

If a visiting teacher gets 90 seconds of attention with an ADHD group that’s a score. The regular teacher provides structure, technique and example for managing all those bundles of internal energy. The visiting teach took the time and interest. That’s seldom lost. I think anytime you can pair off one on one though, it’s good.

I was going to say there was one that "kind of" was watching. I been looking over these videos to see if there were something I could learn, being an old man. I kind of maybe missed my opportunity... Fun to watch though.

I'm pretty sure kids were still kids before there were smart phones. They don't have long attention spans. And it's not like its a classroom specifically for kids with interest in dancing
