Hi mate. Just wanted to genuinely thank you for your comment. You are right and it would be so easy for this channel to only focus on just top 3 popular stuff and ignore the wider subject - I never want this to be the case on the channel. However some videos DO get less views than others and some are so fantastically niche that the time that went into them might have been better spent elsewhere on a more popularist subject and focused on pure profitability. However I like to hope that NASCompares is able to hit as much of the subject of NAS and storage in general as possible, so your comment really helped me know I'm doing things right. Thanks for keeping me on the straight and narrow man.
Due to recent ransomware attacks specifically targeted at TNAS (older versions are insecure as hell), SMB is disabled as shipped , so you'll need to go to settings->File Service->SMB/CIFS to enable it before you can map a share.

Thanks for your videos! I am following along as I set up my new F4-223. Ran into a snag. After plugging in (drives, 2xEthernet plugs & power) I was informed that setup will only work with only one port plugged in. I reached back and unplugged the top Ethernet plug. I then got hung-up with the loading of the initialization. It turns out that for setup YOU MUST BE PLUGGED INTO THE TOP ETHERNET PORT. The bottom port won't work. Curious. By the way, TerraMaster tech support chat answered me in in minutes.
can you go directly into a 2.5gb ethernet card on the computer?
what version of TNAS software are you using? My version 5.0.35 does not have a "map drive" option.

Thank you so much for all your help on this! I have an odd problem I wonder if you can help with? I have created myself a second user on my tnas (so the main admin account is left alone) but when I access it using the network address in my browser, and go into the file manager, the associated folder with the user account name (i.e. the account I am logged into) is marked as read only, even when I'm logged in using that account. This is the account's own folder, not a shared folder. I don't seem to be able to see any settings to change the permissions for the account's own folder, and it seems odd that it's coming up as read only with no way of changing that. Any thoughts on this head-scratcher?
Mapping a drive looks so simple on the video. Unfortunately Terra-Master seem to have “improved” the software and now it’s impossible! Cannot access my newly created Shared File from my Mac. Extremely frustrating.
I’m trying to add my new f2 /423.
I follow the video to first install and setup,and all is ok part from on your video on beginning wend open TNAS pc icon and see the Model is connected I have all on bar as on you video but i can’t see the other option wend click on DHCP to open other option.
That’s helps to see on PC the network folder, to add file in to that Nas.
Any help please ???
My version of TNAS PC, downloaded in the last couple of weeks, does not have the buttons for Map Drive, etc. I am therefore having tremendous issues mapping drives and setting up remote access. Any advice would be appreciated.
Also, thank you for your videos on this. I have been watching them at lunch at work as I work my way through NAS setup and they help a lot.

@@PauloDiaschef I found out that TNAS now ships with CIFS/SMB disabled by default so you need to enable it first. I forget how it's done, but it is through the GUI and as I recall it was pretty simple. oh, it's in another of my comments on this page. settings->File Service->SMB/CIFS
hey there great video. i just wanted to know how i would install ssd's in a device like this. would i need a special adapter or would it just go in regularly
It’s best to check the manual of the Nas you are looking at. Some will mount both 3.5 and 2.5 drives on the same frame.
Great timing. I just picked up an F5-422 this week. Do you recommend upgrading the ram from 4gb for general use. Can you recommend a format utility to wipe large drives that were previously used in a nas, and what type of format to use (raw, fat32,exfat etc)
You can upgrade the memory to 8 gb max with a proprietary 4 gb ram. I would upgrade just to have it and in case i need it, but it’s not necessary, it’s usually the cpu that throttle/bottlenecks just a little. The hdd format i use is btrfs to have the snapshot capabilities such as defragmentation or back up information. U can also use exfat
@@dibanez_1350 thanks. I have an external drive cage i can use to prepare the drives by wiping and doing a disk check. I will get the nas up and running and then play around with memory if i have performance issues. I plan on running it with 10gbe

Ensure that you adjust the mtu value to 9000 in the network interface settings of the respective 10gbe port

Hi, I'm very beginner with technical stuff. Hope you could help me with a question about my setup?
I have the Terramaster F2-221, 2 bays. I've been using for 1 year so far with a 4TB WD NAS. Main use is as a Plex Media Server.
HD filled up over time, I added in a 2nd hard drive to the 2nd slot, a 6TB WD NAS.
How can I set it up to make it 1 volume totaling 10TB? I can't seem to figure it out through the Terramaster Control Panel at all. Must I delete all data from the 1st HD to make it all work how I want? Or is it possible to append the 2nd HD i installed to make it all 1 big 10TB volume?
Does it have a Linux client or only Windows + Mac?

Yes there are reasons to assign an static ip to your Nas. You don’t necessarily want the local ip to change after your drives are mapped. The mappings would be lost. Remote access would be the other advantage. I’m hoping he goes over this in later videos.
If you want to organize files in the shared folder does each new folders need to be shared?
You can add as many files and folders in the shared folder that you want. You won’t need to map them each. Map the shared folder only then organize as desired.
I have a Terramaster F2-210 with latest firmware.
No RAID, just JBOD with music solely on volume 1 and data on volume 2.
I want to replace the drives with bigger WD red plus drives.
My question is , when I put the old dives in my Linux desktop, can I read the data, so I can start fresh with my NAS and coyp the data later from the desktop PC via the network to the NAS.
I tried to explain this at terramaster helpdesk, but they did not seemed to understand me.
Maybe anybody here?
I bleive you would do a drive replacement (*like an actual option in the TNAS software), so it would copy the data directly/automaticly onto the new drive after you swap them out. As for just plugging them into your PC and having them read, I dont think that would work (Could be wrong) because of how the data is parsed between the drives.
Terramaster should have a way for you to swap drives without having to migrate data yourself afterwards.
I've had an Terramaster F2-210 for a few years now. I was recently hacked and had all of my data encrypted. However, I wasn't using it for any important files. It was just for small program testing over a network. Therefore it wasn't a real issue issue to bin all of the data and start from scratch with my NAS. However, I would like to try and create some security for my NAS now. How can I secure the NAS against future attacks?? I'm a complete novice when it comes to setting up firewalls and changing IP addresses, etc.What would you suggest is the best way to start?? Thank you 😊 Great videos BTW

No, I didn't manage to sort anything out, other than connecting it to my network mesh hub main node as opposed to directly to my router. Other than that, nothing. I still know very little about firewalls. I'm fearful of using my NAS now

@@avengingme It was through my Router with open port 8181. My PC was fine as I have loads of security software, etc. on my PC. I just struggle to do the network security.
My NAS has a firewall on it, but it needs setting up and I'm fearful that I'll block everything that I need access to. Without dong an extensive course on networking I'm at a loss on how to set up an effective firewall.

I've tried e-mailing Terramaster support, and posting to the Terramaster NAS User group on Facebook, with no replies. I'm hoping someone here can help.
I'm having difficulty maping a drive letter to a folder on my F4-210. I've tried everything I could find. Folder was set up in TOS File Manager with "Create Shared Folder." Read/Write access for all users.
Several videos I've found say to use TNAS PC, and select the TNAS device. Then there should be four buttons on the bottom of the selection, Login, File Manager, Map Drive, and Change IP. I don't get those buttons. If I right click on the TNAS device, I get Login (which takes me to TOS) and Change IP. No way I can see to map a drive.
So I go to TOS File Manager (where I made the shared folder - logged in with an administrator account)), I click on the shared folder. At the top, there are three buttons: Upload, New, and More. I click on More, but several options in the menu are grayed out, including Map Drive.
So what am I missing?
I am setting up this for the first time but i only have hard drives with data on them. My computer keeps bogging down because i have so many drives connected to it. I want to install these hard drives on this device with out formatting the drives. How do i set it up so I can add my 8tb drives on there that are full with out formatting them. I use plex server and have 1000's of files on these drives for my server so formatting is not a option.
I'm guessing you figured out that your request is not possible, correct? Or did you find a way?
the only way I figured out how to add drives with out formatting is to get a external hard drive rack that allows you to add multiple drives to it but connect it to the nas through a usb cable and have them show up as external drives on the nas. This will allow you to make them network drives over your network @@avengingme
Is it difficult to add hard drives and turn them into a raid configuration after you've already set up TNAS on a single drive??

Just tried terramaster site and it's dead nothing loading good start 🤣
TNAS OS is pretty aweful and has really bad windowing issues. I just bought one and had to swap the OS to TrueNas and saw a HUGE increase in reliability and performance.
TNASOS failures: Pulling a mid flight corrupts your OS and tries to force you to reinstall. It also forces you to dedicate a drive to your OS.
SMB fails often on large transfers and hangs the OS, this isnt good.
Luckily its a PC.
