This is peak Sissel. I had the great opportunity to attend this concert. Sissel had performed with the Tabernacle Choir previously for their annual Christmas concert, which I was also fortunate enough to attend. Her voice is like crystal. So clear, shimmering, and radiant. But it can also sometimes feel cold. BUT hearing this song in-person was like being wrapped in a warm blanket of pure love. It was during the song that the audience realized that we were experiencing something truly remarkable. The pause at the end before the eruption of a standing ovation felt like an eternity of solemn stillness. The ovation continued to build as Sissel reacted because the appreciation was absolutely mutual. It was spiritual, breathtaking, and utterly unforgettable.
I love this song. No one could ever replicate how Sissel performed it on that night. The stars came together, the angels bowed in humble acknowledgment, and all of us held our collective breaths as she brought us as close as she could to Celestial comfort. I was in a very, very dark place when this song came out. I have listened to it 100s of times. The way she sings it is just the way I imagine God's loving voice, "my child." 'Just hang on a little longer.' I am better now, but I would credit this song and the way Sissel sings it to be a "light-sabre" for those of us whose burden is darkness and sadness. It pierces any lack of hope and brings it back into focus. God bless Sissel and the Tabernacle Choir. I am very sure I am not the only one who feels this way. By the way, I loved the word you used to describe it, "sublime." I used "etherial." Thank you. I am glad I came on this...
I was blessed to be in the Conference Center that evening. We were all transported by this amazing performance. It felt as though God had sent an angel with a personal message for each of us, and all of us. I have never heard anything so beautiful.
No reaction was ever better than 20,000 people not making a single sound through out the song. Ultimate respect for the ultimate voice. Your face said it just perfect😔
The softer you sing, the more energy and strength it takes to control the sound. This is a master class in breath support, modulating the tone, and shaping the phrases. Just perfect. And, the most important part! She isn't doing this to show off! She's doing this to honor the music and the message the best she can. That desire permeates the entire concert hall.
I was there...an absolutely stunning performance.....pretty much everyone was in tears.....and I saw many in the choir doing a quick wipe of the face....A moving spiritual experience
Sometimes we stumble upon one of those unbelievable musical moments. Sissel is perfect for that song. We see here why she has been on the international scene for four decades, spellbinding millions. She is THE voice of Norway.
At the same consert she sang a song I think is called "An angel passing through my room". Just as beautiful as this one. And Sissel is an "angel", at least she sing like one.
I remember 1992(IF) Wen she is on stage almost asking to escuses"but I'm going to sing a song"... And about"TO GOD BE THE GLORY"? if perfection exist... There we are. God bless Norweg to have such Daughter. From LISBON with love.
Sissel has a natural ability, beautiful voice and is unpretentious. She imparts her sincerity to her audience. I have admired her glorious performances for many years..
Everything is still the same, as if time stands still. It has appeared around the world of young talented singers and attracted the attention of many. But Sissel is still ahead of everyone. Because she is not only a Norwegian, but also a world jewel. Her memorable interpretations (Albinoni’s Adagio i.e., duets with Pavarotti, Carerras and others, numerous songs from various fields of music, from pop to opera) are an elusive dream for everyone today. And now in her 50s she is at the very top. It’s nice to know that there is someone to inherit it, but right now no one is that category. ❤❤❤❤❤
Fun fact: Sissel is the voice behind several haunting pieces of music in 'Titanic'. She was supposed to sing 'My heart will go on' as well, but it ended up being gifted to Celine Dion at the last minute.
Yes, Sissel is the "Sound Of Titanic" and she was supposed to sing "My Heart Will Go On" but her management bungled the deal and it was given to a Sony Artist in Celine Dion. Sissel did however, sing "My Heart Will Go On" in the 3D Premeire of TITANIC which I have included in the following link. th-cam.com/video/Lh7Pq5U2AQw/w-d-xo.html. Also next from the same premiere is her Titanic Aria from the movie th-cam.com/video/2OVA6AvJXMA/w-d-xo.html
I actual attended this concert and it was amazing! She literally had us all silent and emotional because even then, we needed to hear that song. People were on their feet immediately after. You should listen to her sing “Angels from the Realms of Glory” with the tabernacle choir-Christmas concert-Spirit of the Season from 2007. It’s my favorite song.
Sissel was my absolute favorite Singer in my Youth and there are no Christmas without Sissels Christmas Songs I'm so glad You reaction to this Beautiful gentle Soulful Singing Angel 💞 OneLove 🕊
Being at that concert was something truly amazing. All of us, the entire audience, were utterly spellbound for the duration of this piece. I so wish that Sissel returns to sing with that choir again in a future concert!
This BEAUTIFUL song was the first time I had heard Sissel sing. I was transfixed & feeling very emotional. It's such a beautiful song, but the way Sissel sings this is like nothing else I've ever heard. Stunningly beautiful. Perfect. Just love it & listen to it over & over, along with so many other lovely songs she sings to perfection. What a gift she has 💖💕
Has it ever been sung a more beautiful piece of music? I cant imagine it ever has. So peaceful, so angelic. Thank you, Valerie, this performance is making me tear up every time too. Your reaction says it all. You are the best.
Sissel suggestions: "You and I", duet with Tommy Körberg. "Adagio" "You raise me up" There are so many more! One of my all time favorite singers, great clear tone that moves my heart ❤
i listen to this while meditating ...the volume maxed to just before distortion..... on a bad day i weep like a driving rain and then emerge into the light....she's magic and has been for 30 years
She cried because she felt the spirit of the Lord testifying that he is God. That he does exist and the Holy Spirit testified it. The wonderful choir of angels in the background made it possible as well.
Knight of the Order of St. Olav Lady Sissel Kyrkjebø has sung duets with artists such as Plácido Domingo, Charles Aznavour, José Carreras, Neil Sedaka, Brian May, Bryn Terfel, Josh Groban, Diana Krall, Russell Watson, Dee Dee Bridgewater and Mario Frangoulis. She also participated in the Titanic soundtrack in 1997 and toured with the Irish band The Chieftains. In 1997 she also sang duet with Warren G on the song "Prince Igor". Kyrkjebø sings mainly in Norwegian and English, and has also sung songs in Swedish, Danish, Irish, Italian, French, Russian, Icelandic, Faroese, German, Neapolitan, Catalan, Maori, Japanese, Latin and Spanish. Sissel is one of the worlds best crossover sopranos ( If not the best ). She newer wanted to be a superstar, for Sissel family and freedom to sing what she wants was more importent. In my view Sissel is almost the perfect rolemodel for new singers like Angelina Jordan.
This is interesting, when she got to Salt Lake they asked she to sing a song she had never heard before. She was suprised by the standing ovation, she wasn’t expecting that, which brought her to tears, her words.
This song helped me cope with the stress of working in hospital through Covid. Work then was SO stressful I had to have this on replay on the drive home every night.
This is probably one of the greatest live performances ever. Her low key approach to this melodic prayer is just spectacular. I don't have a religious bone in my body, but for me this is the proof that talent and music cross-borders believes and lifestyles. I'm a jazz/rock ateist that happends to love some of the the melodies of religious music. And she must be the number one profet of that genre. This was just spectacular in a way that no one can ignore.
Dear Valerie, I watched your reaction so often now and I still love it. You were so touched by Sissel's performance (a real spiritual experience) and shared your honest emotions and thoughts with us. Thank you for that! Sissel and Enya are one of the most beautiful female artists and vocals of all time ;) Please make some reaction videos of the beautiful ENYA - another light or angel. For example one of her latest songs: "SO I COULD FIND MY WAY" from Enya. I highly recommend it to you and I am sure u will love it. To see u reacting to it would be so wonderful ;)
One of the most beautiful performances ever in my opinion. I don't know why I didn't see this before now, Valerie, but better late than never. Right?☺️😉 Love from Norway 🇸🇯❤️🇺🇸🔥
As a piece of music, it sounds like it belongs to a musical to me. When i first heard it, I wondered what musical it was from. Chuck Girard, and mostly Sam Cardon for the arrangement of Girard's song deserve credit for the composition itself ... rarely do the composers for stand-alone masterpieces get the credit they deserve. I mean, yes, Sissel is amazing and her interpretation and skill here is breathtaking but let’s not forget creative genius that sets the stage for such performances.
Now you have heard Sissel, I would suggest you listen to her version of O Holy Night/ O Helga Natt. She performs the same version as Jussi Bjorling, which you reacted to some time ago.
Please check out the interview covering this song. You will see even in person, that same shimmering is present within her. She is a grown woman now, and her voice has matured; still, her tonal purity of voice has grown with her, and is interesting to compare to her performance in Solveig's Song. From what I understand, you could have heard a pin drop inside the Tabernacle even filled with 19,000 people. Never before has a performer received a standing ovation in that hall. This was a deeply moving performance, sung by the best.
Great review. She performed this in the most beautiful, worshipful spirit. The orchestra was right on target, too. The original song written and recorded by Chuck Girrard is well worth searching out and listening. It is awesome, too..
Sissel Kyrkjebø singing Greig's Solveigs Song. There are several recordings over the years and all are excellent. I personally like the earliest from 1991. Even then she was a "mature" singer with amazing control.
@@VocalSplendorStudios Since It was originally written in Norwegian it's only natural for her to sing in her native language. Her 2013 recording has subtitles in English and is equally well done. th-cam.com/video/SvDyEIWtnqU/w-d-xo.html
Sissel has several takes of Solveig on TH-cam but for me, her best is the one she did in full national dress with head dress... bad sound quality in the recording but it is the best Solveig (IMO) I have ever heard and I must've heard 100s over the years.
Wonderful reaction! We can hear your innerself react through your sounds and it just ecchoes my own feelings to this. It touches on deep levels. This is more than singing, it delivers something devine to us
This was not JUST a "performance". It was a ministration by God - with His Spirit working through a yielded vessel who was pleased to allow Him to use the tremendous, other-worldly gift and talent that she was given so that God might express His Love and Peace to a hurting, broken world !! Listen to her voice - perfect in tone, pitch and cadence - drawing you into that STILL, quite place. Look at her face - the embodiment of peace, calm, love and joy. See how she uses her body-language and the gestures of her hands to calm, soothe and direct. Throughout the song, but especially at the end with her hands folded over her heart in prayer - she is transcended into the song and into the presence of God, beckoning all who are there to come join her. God is beckoning to ALL who will hear, "Come, be still before me, find the peace that you yearn for, and KNOW that I am God!!" This "Spiritual Journey" was NOT lost on the orchestra, choir or the audience in attendance. They may not have known EXACTLY what it was that they had just experienced, but they DEFINITELY knew that it was something that transcended everyday experience. They reacted by the standing ovation that they honored Sissel with !!
I managed to keep me together up until she added in "my child" the second time around and I crumbled. Then she was become the angel of the Lord, come to spread His peace onto a troubled soul.
