This song's one of my favorite xmas songs.
Not too fond of female versions, but Sissel's version rends me to tears.
Such an amazing singer, there are few words to describe her talent, her voice's just sublime.
Have a wondrous happy Holiday, everyone❣

I grew up with her voice in the house. My mother played her often, and she is one of the artists who are played every year on TV and radio for her christmas hymns. There is no jul without Sissel singing.

Thank you Valerie for this beautiful performance from yet another unbelievable Norwegian singer. Sissel was another young girl who knew What she wanted to do at a very young age much like Angelina Jordan. I have watched many of her performances and two of them were with our American Mormon Tabernacle Choir. Sissel has a very wide range of song from classical to country and popular. Pick any song to react to, you can't go wrong.
I am also sad for your loss and know from experience how hard it is to "get back to a normal routine". Take your time. Your You Tube subscribers will be here when you choose to visit. Keep Christ in Christmas and we wish you a happy New Year.

Spot on, Valery, your comment on the spirituality of the singer being an extra in the singing of a song such as this. I think honesty in voice is a beautiful quality to have in a situation like this. It raises the conviction principle above that of good to special. I think that's why the Mormon Tabernacle have invited her back. Sincerity is hard to fake in music. It's worth remembering too, that the singer here who sang this in the middle of a concert of varied genre requiring different singing styles. Keeping up the quality must be a challenge in that context.

Absolutely beautiful. And very interesting: I'm not familiar with her, but from her first note I could tell she was highly classically trained and I was terrified she was going to make my most beloved Christmas hymn into a mess of an operatic showcase. But she didn't! She presented the song and not her (lovely) instrument as the focus. Gorgeous.
I will check out more of her. Thanks for bringing her to my attention. Will seek out your previous reactions to her.
(And will beg you for more Lara Fabian analysis. 😉) Merry Christmas

Sissel has some classical training, perhaps very early on, but since then, I think, she has become the teacher. Few reach her level. For someone to learn how she does it must be very intimidating.
      And in different languages.

Thanks for this reaction. I suggested this song when you in the first reaction video of Sissel 9 months ago asked for inputs of other songs from her to react to. Especially since you had done a reaction of Jussie earlier. Because she has such a controlled power range (dynamic) together with the ability to hit the tones so perfectly, many people that just wanted to listen to "O'helga natt" performed by Jussie Björling now includes her in their play list. :-) Here is a quote from Pavarotti when compared to Jussie: Pavarotti replied: "Please, I'm only human" a statement demonstrating that even the great modern tenor had enormous respect for Björling.
What you said about Sissel not moving when she performs is so accurate. It looks like she breaths while smiling. Sometimes I am comparing her with an athlete that jumps, the only difference being that while the athlete is trying to gain a lot of speed that can be converted to a long jump, Sissel is standing still and just jumping (but longer :-) ).

Try her Pie Jesu - just unbelievable. That one I don’t think anyone can do better. You also has the beginning of Titanic. The Titanic song was written special for her. But they needed a more well known star from US. And this is not the Scandinavian version- this is the original! It is not the English version 😉

Sissel is a treasure. She sings so calm and so effortless with that cute smile on her face and still performing the highest, clearest and most beautiful tones ever. Sissel is Norwegian but this version is in Swedish, I believe it is the same version that Jussi Björling sang.

You DEFINATELY need to do a reaction to Sissel's - "O Mio Babbino Caro" at th-cam.com/video/BfXPkOp-xc0/w-d-xo.html
I have listened to this selection by various sopranos here on TH-cam, and to my mind, Sissel's is BY FAR the most beautiful and heart-rending of them ALL. As someone commented here on TH-cam, she is THE female singer of the century!!!
As SO MANY have proclaimed, if God has clothed an angel in flesh and blood and sent her to live among us, then SURELY Sissel qualifies. Such an unearthly, angelic voice and personage - such beauty, grace, charm and charisma are not to be found in many here among us !!
Each time that I see and hear her perform this aria, my heart aches within me over the tenderness and emotion that comes forth from her voice -- and the overwhelming beauty of her, her voice and her rendition. Truly, she puts ALL of herself into her singing and becomes the song !!

She's the first 3 of the top 5 female singers in the professional singing world.
Give a few minutes to her US country music ballads. Then find her singing Josh Brogan 'bridge over troubled waters". So many to recommend, so little time to write.

Some years back, here in Australia, there was a show to find the choir. Most of them were terrible, couldn't sing in tune (or key), except for one.
When this one choir sang they stood still and they they were faultless. The judges complained because there was no movement.
Sissel attributes her success to her choir teacher at school who was from New Zealand. Dame Kiri Te Kanawa is my favourite female opera singer.

What a lovely song and a great reaction to a splendid singer. More Sissel! I suggest this latin one, Pie Jesu; th-cam.com/video/e0n0C5yjQgs/w-d-xo.html. I always have to listen to Pie Jesu with Sissel and O Holy Night with Jussi Bjørling to get in the Christmas mood. Now I'll have to listen to O Holy Night with Sissel too, and I couldn't be happier!
Also; really hope you'll feel better soon; with loss it takes time and a quiet patience to get back to "normal". But a new normal it will always be. Much love. ❤️

    Beautiful.
But I wonder, is there not a norwegian translation of it?
A little bit curious of why she sings in Swedish on Norwegian national Broadcasting.
But anyway why swedes and norsemens understand each other quite well.

With a traditional song, when you come at it from «a different angle”, it may make the message clearer.
Also, Swedish can be so poetic (to us Norwegians)

    • @Crowly0
      @Crowly0 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

There is a Norwegian version, but the Swedish one sounds better (imo, and im Norwegian). Could also be that we are used to hearing the Swedish version so thats what we want to hear. Jussi Björling is probably a big reason for the Swedish versions popularity.

The scandinavian languages- norwegan and Swedish- has an advantage when it comes to singing techniques. We have "open vowels" already in our language. British english does more or less the same. Which is to say we open up our jaws in most of our vowels so when it comes to singing and you need to open up we are already doing it. Listen to Sissel again and concentrate on the vowels, not on the words.. If you have the time then look at the links when 3 different people read the same poem. The camera work was appalling. Sissel's face and expression add so much to the performance that at no time should the camera leave her face. I'm sure that no one went to buy a ticket for the permanence, and ask to get a seat 30 rows back, and as far to the side as possible.
