Hiking to Loomis Lake in Rocky Mountain National Park
I've been wanting to visit Loomis Lake for a while. It's at the end of an unofficial trail past Spruce Lake, and is a bit difficult to follow. I've tried twice before and been unable to make it all the way through the thick forest to find Loomis Lake. But this time I succeeded!

If you haven’t done the Great Allegheny Passage, aka The GAP, by now it’s also a great rail trail. I’ve done both it and the Katy and although the GAP isn’t as long as the Katy it is very scenic!

Nice work here. I’ve been biking Florida paved trails since 2011. It doesn’t get any better. I love the Jax-Baldwin Trail it’s safe and beautiful. Also, you were very close to the Lehigh Trail in Palm Coast, you only needed to go west on Highway 100 in Flagler Beach several miles to Colbert Lane then turn right, a trailhead is just on the left. Enjoy.

I had a summer job with the National Park Service back in 1974. Our job was to keep the hiking trails clean and safe for the hikers. I worked with four other people on my crew, working ten days with four days off. We would average about 12 miles a day. Each member of our crew carried their own backpack with sleeping bag and ten provided by the NPS. After each day, our boss, Ron Harris would find us a place to camp off the beaten trail. Some days, if we were ahead of ourselves, he would give us a day off. Also, some members of other crews would bring us beers, so we can have around the campfire. I have been watching these clips to see if I recognize any trails. There all the same. l do recall one place I use to visit and it was called: "The Rock Inn". I think its still there. That was one crazy summer.

What a great story, thank you for sharing it! While I'm hiking, I often wonder how the trails are so well-maintained. How did they get this log all the way out here to make this bridge? How did they carve these steps into this rocky terrain? It must have been a lot of hard work, but I'm glad to hear it was fun, too. The Rock Inn is most definitely still around. I've been once or twice, and it's a very popular place with the locals!

The roundabouts are for emergency vehicles in case some one has a medical emergency. As you stated there is nothing out there.
