Dont grow up, its a trap, stay young, love these songs, im 58, still remember this song like yesterday, i know all the words, the kids take the piss out of my dancing to it, so what, i feel young, so im staying young, worked my bollox off since 15, im not leaving my early years behind me. stay young.
OMG definately one of my favourite songs ever. They should use this song for adverts it should be heard again. Its brilliant I love the pearls I was 16 when this came out best time of my life.
+gerladiant same here. first time iv herd it sinc back then. and it sounds better than ever. like you say. it was good times then. i see a lot of old faces and memorys erly 70s. brill.
Glad that Sparks are still going strong - they've just released a brilliant new single called "iPhone" which is going viral on TH-cam. Funny, but also a sad indictment as to how many people are conditioned to behave these days. Mud are still around, but have no intention of doing any new recordings.
Me too. I've looked this up because it was in my head when I woke up this morning and found myself singing it. I didn't even know who sang it until now even though the song is so familiar 💕
This was on 'Disco Explosion' from K-Tel. It is from 1974. I had this album as a kid and my dad threw it out 'cus it was scratched. I found it again in a car boot sale in the late nineties and it is a gem in my collection. This track is my favourite from the LP but there are other classics too.
Yes! That record is where I remember this track from. I still have that album from way back then, its scratched and jumps but I still get it out for a nostalgic listen every so often. Lots of great other tracks like Kung Fu Fighting, Summer Love Sensation, Cat Steven's version of Another Saturday Night and so many more! Me and my siblings played it endlessly because it was the only record we had back then!
I remember huming this in the classroom in 74 i was eight and staring out the class window, yes i was a day dreamer hated school, but great to hear this song again.
I soooo remember this song. I'm 47, and have searched for this song for ever. My cousin had the 45, and we played it over, and over, and over again. LOVE this song.
Apparently a TOTPs clip does exist somewhere, basically it was The Ladybirds, stalwart backing singers for TOTPs/ Benny Hill etc who certainly deserved recognition for all the hard work they did week after week.
Good to know a clip still exists somewhere. Lyn Cornell and Ann Simmons were originally part of The Vernons Girls but _did_ become part of The Ladybirds, which consisted of 12 different singers throughout the years.
Ah, those TOTP albums. I was growing up when they were released and never realised for years that they weren't even the original artists! This particular song brings back fond memories of the funfair (now gone) at Seaton Carew, near Hartlepool. Anyone else remeber it?
ii was the same didnt know for ages they werent original singers lol went on to buy nearly every single from 70 s with ny after school job loved the pearls guilty x
oh. my. god. i have been searching & searching for this song since i left school, i am 49 now, and i was beginning to think i had made it up, save for the fact that the lyrics were so embedded in my head, i knew i couldnt have. I have been searching all the music download sites and now i have finally found it. Its like my head had finally take the tight band of annoyance off. ITS REAL. its exactly as i remembered it. ha. ha. ha.
Roker & Shury who wrote this had to notify ATV songs in America when First Choice covered the song because the American label put the incorrect songwriters on their first pressings.
They used to be in Liverpool's 'The Vernons Girls'. I met Lyn (blonde) in Australia touring with James Last. Also in the choir were R and J Stone of "We Do It" fame. What a combo !!!
This was their greatest hit in the early summer of 1974, and does sound 'Motownesque' - but producer Phil Swern was a great admirer of the label and its artists, I thought the Pearls were so refreshing in the last days of the 'glam rock' era and slightly retro mod in a good way?
Now this i love, remember this from High School, just another great seventies classic........your guilty of love, nothing wrong with that......look at the top of the pops covers...memories!!
Oh, I remember this, particularly the rather blunt key change late on. I'm not sure if we should really count the key change at 2:18 as a "truck driver's gear shift", because it really feels more like just an excuse to stretch the song out by an additional 40 seconds or so. Still, a nice little ditty. Thanks for posting.
The Pearls were several different ladies at different times ...backing singers for the big " pop stars " like Cliff and Marty and all the 60s stars lovely girls x
1974. was a very hot summer. and this was the hottes tune. brings back all the memorys. and good times we had that year. i cant understand why it diddent go strait to number one.? i dont think it would have the same magic. if somone els did it. but they should releece the original again. lovely.
August 2024. Just heard this on Boom radio. Oh, the memories that came flooding back! ❤
Great infectious pop song from '74. Very fond memories of this lovely ditty blasting out from the radio speakers.
Dont grow up, its a trap, stay young, love these songs, im 58, still remember this song like yesterday, i know all the words, the kids take the piss out of my dancing to it, so what, i feel young, so im staying young, worked my bollox off since 15, im not leaving my early years behind me. stay young.
Hell yeah
Love ya lovey❤ ."74" sing in my dad's mark 1 zephyr😊
This is my auntie. Used to love going to see her perform on TV shows when we were kids.
So happy for you!! ❤❤❤
Really? Is it Lyn or Ann who is your auntie?
Wow!
You should be so proud. Your auntie was partly responsible for a timeless British pop classic.
I am now 61 but i was 11 when first came out in 1974 absolutely LOVE IT.
I still have the single I bought in the 70s, I will keep it forever!!
I loved this Record. Haven’t heard it for years. Pity there wasn’t a video available of this classic 😀😀😀
I love this song❤ I’m 13 and my Nan always used to play it! I haven’t been able hear it much lately

It reminds me of the best year of my life, with so much good music.Sparks, Bay City Rollers, Glitter Band, Wizzard, Mud and so mich more.

You're lucky. I wish I was alive then.
@@dariowestern Mud?
Ray Stiles is with The Hollies, Dave Mount and Les Gray are dead, there is only Rob Davies
@@Juppalieu Ray and Rob have recently been gigging again as Mud and doing some pub gigs along with Ray’s sons band Vambo (formerly Mothership).

Unforgettable lyric, wonderfully song. Huge hit and deservedly so. Needs more oldies airplay.
I soooo remember this song. I'm 47, and have searched for this song for ever. My cousin had the 45, and we played it over, and over, and over again. LOVE this song.

Great youth club favourite back then
It's a wonder that this great song wasn't a hit in The land of ABBA! Greetings from Sweden!
Love this song !
This song is so appropriate right now
One of my fave songs ever! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Bananarama definitely borrowed from this for Love in the First Degree.
I think their track was more of a tribute, because the two songs have such strong lyrical similarities
Or more accurately, Stock Aitken Waterman borrowed heavily from this song. But I agree with you.
Such a good song ughhh
Roker & Shury who wrote this had to notify ATV songs in America when First Choice covered the song because the American label put the incorrect songwriters on their first pressings.
Me too Colin Jane! I remember dancing to it at the school disco! I know every single word..
omg i bloody love this song,,, am only 25 i full blast it in the car with ma mam my fave ever song i loveee it xxxx
Los 70's, una época preciosa en música y vivencias, tenía 13 años cuando lanzaron este tema.
Omdays brilliant
Thanks for the great song...sooo catchy!!!!
So many happy memories...love it!
Back in my teens.... Just love it.
Absolutely GREAT!!!
Great old song. I was twenty when this came out. Loved it then. Still do. I was for some reason convinced they were from the USA. Thanks!
There was a U.S. cover version of the same song by American girl group First Choice. But this was The Pearl's first non-cover release.
Super pop song, the girls sing so well, pop at its best
They used to be in Liverpool's 'The Vernons Girls'. I met Lyn (blonde) in Australia touring with James Last. Also in the choir were R and J Stone of "We Do It" fame. What a combo !!!

top tune been looking for this for ages!!!
I saw the Pearls live on Granada T.Vs "LIFT OFF" in the early seventies-They were fantastic
Just been sent back in time, loved that record back then and now
How I love this song.
Listening to this in 2022..
As a lover you run for cover whenever trouble appears...a big favourite!!
The Pearls were several different ladies at different times ...backing singers for the big " pop stars " like Cliff and Marty and all the 60s stars lovely girls x
@Forestamtul I don't know but seeing them made me smile. They should bring them back today!!
just leavin school wen this came out wat memories
+michael avison every one on here loves this tune. i wish it could happen again. it should have gone strait to No 1 back then.
Without knowing who was singing, I could have sworn this was a Motown song. They sound a lot like a female version of "The Chairmen of the Board."
u mean give me just a little more time chairman of the board
That's it - but if you dance to the music, don't you know you got to pay to the piper!
Love it ......

Great memories of a great song
Remember that record around 1974 never heard it ever since
Get lost!! OMG forgot about this record how mad is this, BUT brilliant at the same time.
Reminds me of my first love. Wish i knew where he was now.
love it xxx
Were they ever on TOTP? Cannot remember this at all, I was 16 yo at the time.
...probably....but this was the era of BBC tape wiping....
Yes they were but that is probably long gone. I think they turned out to be the Ladybirds (totp's backing singers)
Doesn't this make you wonder what the hell happened to music over time?
Fifty years old, wow
I searched for years for this..I was in love for the first time when it came out. It didn't work out but the memories this brings back..oooooh!!!
LOL @Colin Jane .. Same here been in my head for years.( I'm 46 )
first time i've ever heard this. sounds like stock aitken waterman borrowed bits of this for a bananarama song.
+womba68 i think this was 1974 or 73. well befor any of that. but can see were your coming from.
1974? These girls had been in the Vernons Girls . Scouse birds
Classic.... AMEN...🙂🙃🙂🙃🙂
From that era.

A B B A !
Reminds me of last summer. LOL....
Ok confession time. Hands up everybody. Who else bought all those TOTPs albums, just for the pictures of the girls 🤚✋🏻✋🏾
Yup!!

G U I L T YYYYYYY
i am fed up with this covid so i am going away to 1968 for six weeks one in 68 ane in 69 and one in 1970 and so on anybody want to come with me
My stalker s song... So guilty... Awaiting her fate
The sister's Sue & Sunny .... k remembers..😥😥
Only on the first Pearls single. After that it was Lyn Cornell and Ann Simmons
I thought this was a new song parodying a 70s pop song.
When i was ten, my sister and i sang this 'acapello' in a pontins talent show,Camber Sands. and we won !
