You rock guys! Can wait to see the rest of the build. Paneling, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, cabinets. It’s not easy or fun to work at negative temperatures but you make it seem so. Thank you for sharing.
Wow- Your spay foam guy sure did a number on the two of you. Lots of extra labor, but now you have the maximized R value that alines very well with your framing. Your hard work turned a negative into a positive. It should work well for you in the Norwegian winters.
We totally do not understand why you do not have thousands of subs by now. Your videos are very good and entertaining. I am so glad we did not try to build a van ourselves and just bought a van. You guys are super nice. Best wishes.
Thank you 😍 we’re working really hard on our videos and filming so we’re super happy you like it 🤩 Haha 😂 totally understandable, now you can sit back and enjoy us struggling 😉😁
awesome videos I am getting ready to buy a sprinter and do close cell foam spray. Enjoy your videos. I will use mine in Alaska to photo and film the auroras. Best wishes
Can you please share the checklist that you used for all the steps that must be done before spraying? I live a similar lifestyle and want to make sure I don't forget anything before I have someone come spray. Thank you!
This was really important and informative information. thanks for sharing such a difficult part of the journey. Im doing this on my own, so things that dramatically increase labor is very important for me to avoid. Thanks alot.
You're welcome 😀good luck 😀 and even though it was a nightmare getting it back and fixing it up, the van is really well insulated now, and it keeps us warm when we want to making the van livable in the winter, and also really cool in summer, making it really versatile, its pretty awesome 😁
The guy who did this job, I think the first thing he sprayed was his eyelids shut. Bit late now but the best tool you could have used would have been a heavy duty floor belt sander with a heavy grit belt.
I just watched the video saying that the foam insulation adversely affects the outside skin of the van because of the curing process. This was an RV Builder who says they tried three different concoctions and even had the company that makes the product try to keep it from happening but it affected the outside of the van every time they tried.
Guys thanks for doing this video and for doing it in English you help so many more people that way... quick question what spay foam did you use or did he supply it and do you have any left over? On a plus side you should have super passive temperature in your van now cool in summer warm in winter... how is it?
He supplied it and we don't have any left over 😏but it was closed cell, does that help you? YESS!! we've only tested it in cold temperatures as of now, and the van is super nice and toastv 😎it will be exciting to see how it is in the summer 😀
Have you seen the outside of the van deform or look wavey? I’ve heard spray foam isn’t a good fit for van as it deforms the metal and causes warpage of the shell. Thanks and best of luck on your adventures.
No deformations or “wavey’nes”👏we did tons of research on that and spoke a lot to the guy who did the job, what he said was that you’ll get deformations if the foam has nowhere to go, so you have to be careful 😌 don’t know if he’s right, but at least we didn’t get any deformations 🙌 we also made sure to finish the electrical conduit and wrap up all original cables so that we can reach them at a later point 😅😀
You poor people! That is the worst spray job on a van I've seen. The 'deformation' point seems to be correct because you certainly got a lot of spray foam and yet it didn't deform because 'it had someplace to go'. Thanks for having the courage to share the fiasco.
Did he do it for free for making such a terrible job because it looks like he's never done one before and did he have a heated room to do it in thanks for showing that I was thinking about doing one myself I'm sure that dust would be dangerous to your health. Well done for staying so positive.
hahaha I wish he did it for free!! We felt like we were literally turning our money into dust.. (I guess we were as well.. ohh no thinking of that makes me sad 🙈). Your point here with health is the reason we didn't do it ourselves, we simply don't have the competence or security gear, but we definitely should have checked out references more than just research online.. and have a written contract (guess I'm a bit to trusting 😅). That being said though, we have used our van now in minus C and it is so nice and warm!!! 😎
@@IdaTobias do you mind if i ask what he charged in US$, he certainly should have given u a break on the price. any tips on protecting wiring, door latch hardware, etc ?
Thinking of doing a similar build for here in the US, that thick beautiful layer of comfort (from the heat here in Texas, not cold) would be worth all the extra work. Did see framing in the walls, what about the floor? Layed down directly on the foam, or did something just not make it into the video? Does that work?
It truly is, buut it has an high R value and when you've finished the job the van is incredibly well insulated 😀 for us during cold winters up in Norway that is really important 😀
Holly shit , there is absolutely no way that I would have picked up the car in this condition!!!! If he would not want to fix it I would report it to his insurance or take him to court period and charge him for the damages. I am a contractor as well and it is beyond me how can you do such a crappy job, get payed for it and get away with it too.
We probably should have done that.. we were just a little bit in shock I think 😅 originally he said he’d remove the excess and we ended up getting in a bit of an argument over that.. in the end we were just so sick of him and we just wanted our van back..but as you say, we probably shouldn’t have backed down 😅
Whoever did your spray firming I’m guessing it was his first attempt He must’ve put twice the amount of fun then what was needed what a waste do you feel sorry for you guys but you’ve done a fantastic job
The worst spray foam application I have seen. Before getting this stuff applied it is worth stating in writing what you want ie depth and areas to a standard. I hope you got a discount from the amateur who did the job.
I have never seen anyone do such a sloppy job on spray foam. You have a lot of patience to still be upbeat and positive after all that reworking. Wow!
😔it was pretty bad 😅 thanks 🤩
Iv dropped a like because of your patience. i was expecting you guys to be digging a hole somewhere on the way back 😂

Thank you! That really means a lot 😍 we are tackling plenty of those challenges this summer, so stay tuned 😅
Just wondering if this foam is prone to molding. Did you do vapor barrier?
I hope you didn’t pay him that was a poor job by the spray foam guy!!! You did a grand job. 💯💯

Thanks for a good laughter😍 And your content is really good guys!

Your doing a great job, and thankyou for speaking english and looking forward to seeing more of your build. stay safe 👍👍🚙
That’s great feedback! Thank you 🤩 stay safe you too ☺️
What a mess. Thanks for sharing.

Sprayfoam is the best. You guys just got a rogue foamer
I think you’re right 😅 after living in the van in both cold and warm environments we really love the insulation of the van 😁

Wow! Messy for sure! I've been thinking about spraying my RV. TVM guys. Very interesting!
Wow 😯 You guys have WAYY more patience then most do!
👊 We definitely had it tested 😂

There.. there was a ghost.
Nice

This is a year ago so you can look back at it in laugh.... and hey it looks like an igloo, so where better than Norway for that?!

I felt so bad for you guys, but you have great patience, keep it up 👍,,, by the way, I wanna ask if the guy who did the foam spray still alive?🤔😀😀
Why do people think that spray foam is a good idea? It's such a mess and hard to remove if you have to work on something underneath.
It truly is, buut it has an high R value and when you've finished the job the van is incredibly well insulated 😀 for us during cold winters up in Norway that is really important 😀

Was it closed cell or open cell foam?
Comedy show!
😂 good thing someone got a laugh 🙈😂
Jeez you should've just filled it entirely then carved out a square space.....I'll use the usual method I think....great van build tho

hahahaha 🤣 cant't blame you for thinking so 😂
Fy f! For et mess :O
Hvor mye kosta det å gjøre det på den måten? (eks. ekstrautstyret dere måtte kjøpte)

WTAF ??
That was not a professional spray foam installer.
They did not deserve to be paid for that. No way that was a 'professional' job. You probably could have done the same (or better) yourself.
Wooow, id ask for my $ back
haha we did.. no response there.. 🙈🤯 so it became a matter of making the best out of it 😂
