For everyone who doesn't realize, the man at 0:55 singing his heart out is long time Oilers lockerroom attendee, Joey Moss. May you rest in peace Mr. Moss. You will be sadly missed.
I'm a rangers fan from Sweden...but this is just so good and strong so I have to watch it...love how the Oilers fans give so much for their team but that's exactly what pumps the team up to give their best. (bad grammar maybe, I'm not that good at grammar in english)
Anyone else remember the fans in San Jose booing the Canadian anthem, and the Edmonton fan’s response when the series came to Edmonton was to sing the American anthem? That’s class
I was there! The radio stations all rallied and told everyone to sing the USA anthem as loud as ours. It was the most beautiful moment I had ever seen in sports. My father and I still talk about it.
I remember the reverse happened for one playoff series between Montreal and Boston. Habs fans booed the American National Anthem at Bell Centre, so Bruins fans shot back with raucous cheers for the Canadian National Anthem the next game.
im from ny and i love how edmonton oilers do everything big when it comes to hockey there crowd singing o canada and there outdoor game what a classy city!now all the cities in canada copy them by singing oh canada and after the oilers did there outdoor game everyone followed after!i wish the oilers nothing but the the best in the 2016-2017 season in there new building cause when they do get into playoffs that city is gonna go crazy awsome fans too
A magnificent video and a wonderful presentation of the Canadian national anthem. I am an American who admires Canada and who appreciates the greatness and the goodness of our northern neighbor. Canada is a steadfast friend of the USA, and it plays a positive and responsible role in international affairs. It is one of the most free and liberal societies in the world, and it should be commended for that.
When I am down and feeling sad.... i put this on and watch.. and then i am inspired ! i love this country it is truly great and the best in all the world !!
Amazing... that is rivalling or perhaps outdoing some of the most enthusiastic crowd singing from the English Premier League. Absolutely amazing from the Oilers fans
I have watched this video a handful of times. As an American, I absolutely adore the Canadian national anthem. It is incredible. You guys sing it with pride up there. Well done guys.
R.I.P Paul Lorieau :( you were a beaut and nobody sang the anthem better than you. I remember he was the first one to just hold up the microphone and let the crowd sing the national anthem during the oilers 2006 cup run. Lots of guys copied him after that but he was the first to do it.
@Harold Hourie lol dude this is the atmosphere you get in a friendly neighborhood match in Russia . The only reason they dream to play in NHL is $$$ nothing else .
I'm from England and I remember watching this after school having recorded the game the previous night and I'm still yet to see a more passionate group than Canadians you guys are so amazing ice hockey is amazing love it. Totally brilliant truly my own country could learn a thing or two honestly mean that amazing atmosphere I could feel it watching at home.
I live in the UK, what kind of school tapes a hockey game for the kids to watch lol. Our sport is treated like shit here despite all the gains we've made with GB in the World Champs.
I'm a American and i respect the National Anthem if i went to a Hockey game in Canada i would stand up and show respect to just like i do in America. I as a American seeing some bash the Canadian National Anthem makes me sick. I wanted you Canadians to know i respect you National Anthem and country and love going there
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! JULY 1, 2021. As a native northern Minnesotan, I am honoured every time someone asks me if I am from Ontario!! Something about my speech patterns, I guess!
Oilers fans so passionate even if there team is doing bad the arena is always sold out. I went this last March to an oiler game they were way out of the playoffs but the arena was packed. Unlike Boston or New Jersey I saw like no one there seats half empty
Being from L.A. I caught the hockey bug in 1983 and Northlands was the center of the hockey universe. That building was full and buzzing with excitement every game I watched, and that was plenty of them after I had a huge satellite dish installed. I'd get chills when Paul Lorieau sang, and nearly wet myself when Glen Sather would send Dave Semenko out because you knew a King was about to receive retribution and get pummeled by #27. Up until the day the changed the NHL forever, L.A. was hockey Siberia, and once Wayne was traded we had a full house and Don Cherry in the press box. The fan club I was a part of always hosted all Smythe Division fan clubs for a social mixer every season, and we usually did a Calg/Edm trip too. I have complete love and respect for Canada and it's people. Despite our trash talking President we will always have your backs.
That's so cool seeing someone mention 0:56 for Joey Moss!! I was in the building for this - working, as I had been for 13-14 years then - and still get goosebumps seeing this! That was the LOUDEST coolest thing and Paul Laurier and I still marvel over it when we see each other! (he retired from it now) What a moment!! And Joey always sings the anthem loud!! He's another national treasure!
I'm from the US, and I love it! This video never fails to give me goosebumps. And I think the goalie's look of "we're screwed" at 1:12 pretty much sums it up!
Paul god rest your soul! You would have been proud of what happened last night in Edmonton, when the mic failed we blasted out the American anthem, and Robert Clark kept your spirit Alive with O Canada. You taught us well.
@Sportsmaven DAMN RIGHT Hockey has the best fans on earth. Passionate for our game, passionate for our teams, and PASSIONATE FOR OUR COUNTRIES! This brings a tear to my eye how beautiful this game is and the fans who care so much for our game around the world. Here's To Ya Canada, Much love from the U.S.A
The love for one's country can move anybody emotionally. I'm American, and I think that was amazing. Patriotism doesn't even exist anymore here in America. Kudos for keeping patriotism alive, Canada!
I googled my way to this clip thanks to an article in today's Toronto Star about various versions of our national anthem. This was quite spectacular! I got shivers!
i am an american, but this is honestly one of the coolest videos on youtube. Canadiens are truely proud of their country and their pastime. gives me chills every time

Yeah, that pan across to Ryan Smyth with Joey Moss in the background was so goddamned well timed and perfect you'd think it was set up. People weren't only cheering for Ryan, they were cheering for Joey just as much. Just awesome.

This seriously gives me the chills, yes I'm American and I LOVE hockey, and what u ppl arguing gotta realize.. this is a video! Only a fraction of what it really sounds like in the stadium!
People, please don't bring anger into these comments. May I just say, that whenever I see a video of Paul singing the anthem during that 06 run, I always got goosebumps, and had a cold shiver go down my spine. I still remember that playoff run like it was yesterday. No matter what Paul will always live on in oil country. Rest in peace.
For everyone who doesn't realize, the man at 0:55 singing his heart out is long time Oilers lockerroom attendee, Joey Moss. May you rest in peace Mr. Moss. You will be sadly missed.
That image of Smyth with Moss singing in the background should be minted onto a coin.
He was such a beloved person in the Edmonton that there is a school and preseason trophy named after him. On in Canada, I love it!
ok

Just heard Paul on the radio talking to Strudwick about this, had to look it up. Such a spine chilling moment.
Paul......... who???? Can't be Lorieau; he passed away last summer of throat cancer.
Persadish It may have been a pre-recorded interview. Either way, the guy was a class act.
Although I'm from Germany and I'm not an Oilers-fan, actually, this is giving me goosebumps! A pretty touching performance!
Now This is how you sing a national anthem WOW what pride and patriotism,
From an American who loves Canada!
I love how 97% of Americans don't know the lyrics to their own anthem... but try to make us feel bad because we do :) GO CANADA GO!!
A lot of teams do this now but Edmonton was the first to let the fans sing the anthem... and we are the best!!
This seriously gives me the chills, yes I'm American and I LOVE hockey, and what u ppl arguing gotta realize.. this is a video! Only a fraction of what it really sounds like in the stadium!
