What I love about Armageddon is the "The current situation is dire, retreat and regroup at the second fall back line (from totally of ten), save your life to fight another day". They have strong will to lives and are not ashamed to retreat which is the reason why Armageddon (almost) never fall.
Fun fact: The Tallarn Desert Raider fought the Eldar of the Biel-Tan craftworld (correct me if I am wrong), but in the middle of the conflict due to the appearance of the Iron Warrior Choas Marine, the two side stepped into a truce and fought side by side against the new comer. And at the end of the war, both side gained respect for each other with some fighters even became war friends as they taught the other 's their perspectives of warfare.
They also had there world virus bombed and said ok "we ball" fought the largest tank battle with the iron warriors in imperial history while they survied caves and tunnels
Also worth noting is that the Tanith Cloaks fit a lot of the same niches as the medieval Scottish great kilt, ie warmth, camouflage, protection from elements, even using as a hammock
Great video as always Another cool thing about the Tallarn Desert Raiders that connects them to Middle Eastern culture that their marksmen make use of the Mars pattern lasgun, which can resemblance the Afghan Jezail rifle
Thanks alot! Ya when writing this I misremembered the old metal models having the Mars patter lasguns so originally the script mentioned Jezzails. Then I saw the models actually had the more standard galaxy pattern (I think?), But I musta gaslit myself into thinking they didnt use them at all either in lore or models, thanks for pointing that out.

Tallarn also get inspiration from the first formed SAS which did pretty much all you described as well. Most of their influences are ofc Arab Revolt as well.
@KrakDuk no worries, keep making awesome videos and I for sure will keep watching. Also, how about the Savlar Chem dogs? They are close to a penal legion
@101Mant yeah, that was awesome rule. Back in the older codexs the imperial guard was always losing moral and breaking, but with that rule and a commissar you could keep your troops point in the right direction.

Praetorian guard! I'm a really old school WH fan (I started at 2nd edition) and there have been some few miniatures of them from the pretty much at the beginning. I've alway thought they would make a really cool looking army but there's never been that much love for them :(.
While Sharpe is Hornblower on land, one of the more major influences was another CS Forester book named 'Death to the French' which is about a rifleman of the 95th dealing with the French in an appropriate manner.
Yes sir, I will most likely cover them in the next or second to next regiment video. I also plan to cover commissar Cain sometime soon. Thank you for watching!
I'd say there's a good amount of Soviet Union - Russian (Latter in particular) for the Steel Legion in that their overall strategy and organization (whilst still Panzegrenadier in nature ) is heavily similar to certain Cold War USSR Guards Divisions who took great lessons and training in what they were as primarily mechanized divisions with good armor and artillery support whilst still having a well trained infantry complement. They have a similar number and again when it comes to unit organization and how each of their units incorporates each and every asset it can through finagling and politicking (While other Regiments are more restricted in comparison) also to somewhat of a stretch it all stems from how the Chimera is very much similar to the BMP-2 (Especially in how the SL prefer the ones that have Hunter-Killer ATGM's, mounted similarly in most depictions much like the BMP-2's Kornet.) There's also the fact in how all wars of Armageddon (the third war especially) played out very similar to the various marches into Russia by Western nations. The third war of Armageddon is quite literally a reference to Operation Barbarossa of WW2 with the Steel Legion taking the Soviet role of the war. Not to mention there were parts where when the Orks entered Armageddon Hives there were literal Stalingrad moments where freshly made vehicles were being pumped out and fighting within minutes of their completion, there were even fights inside factories that involved artillery use and Legionnaires entering half finished vehicles to use against the Orks. A couple things mentioning too that isn't related to the Soviet/Cold war bit is that Armageddon is considered very friendly to Abhumans. There was also a Colonel who detected that there was going to be a rebellion on a relatively backwater but still developed Agri-world of Cassel in the form of a religious revolt, he deployed his Steel Legion there and right when the Heretical Cardinal declared for a crusade the Colonel quickly acted and within 6 hours the rebellion had been defeated.
Their uniform resemble radioactive uniforms due to the leathery and covered nature which is peak cold war aesthetic and their beige/khaki uniform with green helmet is really similar to the soviet ww2 uniform. Their chimera is based of soviet BMP and there are lots of legionnaires that have Russian names (Kurov, Andrej, etc.). Soviets in late ww2 and cold war where extremely mechanized and had an industry rivaling the Americans. They also were obsessed with tanks just like the steel legion. war for armaggedon also resemble the war for Stalingrad.
As a Highland Scotsman who plays the bagpipes myself, when you inform tourists that the bagpipes were brought to Europe by the Roman Empire from the middle east and there not actually from Scotland it doesn't go over well :D But we do like to say that we took the Pipes and perfected them and you get "The Highland Bagpipes" as a result. Certainly Bagpipes in a military setting and tradition is most definitely Scotland, legally a weapon under law, used to call command back in the day and maintain cadence. Aye thats awesome! Ya thats what I aim for, I want to make fun accessible videos so people can find what lore bits they like and decide what to dive deeper into. Glad you like the channel!
As said previously, really a big fan of the 1st edition Imperial Guard, given an army list under the name of Hylgar's Hell-raisers Also other interesting ones being the "War on Terror" inspired Elysian Drop Troops, and while not really Imperial Guard, gotta love the Mad Max inspired Diggas
The moment he brought up about Lawrence of Arabia I heard “As the darkness falls and Arabia calls, one man spreads his wings as the battle begins, may the land they claim unto Lawrences name and the pillars of wisdom lights the flame.”
I will suggest one regiment seriously, the Vitrian Dragoons and one just for the lols, the Tangar Woad Warriors from the 3rd Edition Guard codex who fight entirely naked and have the motto: "Believe will conquer bullets".
@@KrakDuk Sadly there is not much about them. There is a picture of one of them with the motto on that Guard Codex and they have a passing mention in Warzone Octarius: Rising Storm. They are clearly inspired by Gaul warriors that fought the romans similarly wearing only woad painting on their bodies. Btw, about that first version of the 3ed Imperial Guard Codex, there is a full page spread with pictures of several lesser known Guard regiments in that book. I also think several well known guard regiments appear for the first time in there. It shows the Death Riders of Krieg but i'm not sure if it's the first mention of Krieg, if it is I guess it's interesting that the Death Riders were conceived before the rest of the Death Korps.
Two other regiments I would like to see you talk about are the Vallhallains (for an obvious reason), and the Athonian tunnel rats. Otherwise you hit basically every one I'm interested in.
I do think thus guy should invest in more backgrounds but otherwise I love this guys videos. He is like a more wholesome major kill and a more sane Paul is bad at stuff.
Yes, I definitely plan to cover all three of those fellas sometime down the line. I think the next video will either be Valhallans, Vostroyans, and a third or be focused on drop regiments like Elysians. Not entirely sure yet, but I do want to cover every major regiment eventually
My favorite regiment doesn't even have official artwork, but it's the Lucifer Blacks. If you could cover them that'd be awesome despite the limited information we have on them
Do they have gorgets? Gorgets are the neck armor piece right? Pretty interesting parallel tho, I dont recall many models with it tho. Thanks for watching
Great vid and the audio was fine throughout I think we’d all love more of these guard videos but most of all I think a vid on your home-brew sea world Kasr’s would be quiet the hit, especially if you had a few named characters As for my favourite guard regiment I like the Savlar Chemdogs, I find it cool how they’re all criminals who puff on space meth/opium in battle to cope with the horrors of war and give them a boost
I know it's been done before but your video on The Fall of Cadia was so good, I hope you'd be happy to cover the other major events that happened during the entire 40K timeline like with the War in Heaven, Birth of Slaanesh, and of course the Horus Heresy. The Horus Heresy could even be split into two if you wish to cover a bit more indepth. Good looking out. Love your vid on the Cadia, its the one that got me hooked.
Thank you! Yes im planning to cover a major battle every other week and then have something else in between. Next week im going to talk about Graia, and then probably Vraks. Those other big ones are definitely on the list! Thanks for watching, glad you like the stuff
I bought my first set not long ago, Cadians, to be exact (there was nothing else, so I was oblivious to the others). But so far, lore-wise, I like the Cadians, so far, and the Steel Legion aesthetic-wise, mainly because of the Panzergrenadier influence (it's also interesting to me that the paint scheme of them resembles the Afrika Korps in a way).
With everything in the 40k universe dialed up to… well, 40,000, the Tanith’s plot armor fits in perfectly. The accent in the audiobooks is pretty Irish. These are three really cool regiments.
Steel Legion were my initial gateway drug into accepting that in 40k the lowliest average human has spirit and balls in such an unforgiving galaxy. The moment I realized they exist, GW took them away from us and somehow their greatest series is also a brutal pain in the arse to find. That being said, the Elysian Drop troopers are also a favorite purely because of my time in Darktide. It's a fast firing bullpup that shoots frickin' Lazer beams.
There are 2 types of IG fans; those who know that the Tanith are absolutely GOATED and are the best damn light infantry in the guard, and those who are wrong.
There's so many great Regiments,. Mine is the Praetorians but forgot to say why last video. Zulu is an amazing film that Praetorians and their Games Day diorama was based on that campaign. Give them the good old 1st Rank, Fire, 2nd Rank, Fire....
@@KrakDuk When painting them I actually took some inspiration from the NCR rangers from fallout new vegas, they are very similar in theme, wasteland survivors of a toxic planet, and the helmet, goggles, mask and duster/trench coat are all very similar. They really do scratch my wasteland warriors itch, and I caved while painting and painted some of their goggles red. I imagine they're all listening to "Spurs that jingle jangle jingle" while storming Orks in a chimera.
Thank you! Happy to see you supporting so early on. I’m hoping it continues to grow. I’ll definitely cover some more chaos topics soonish(?) i want to diversify the factions covered on the channel. Thanks again for watching!
@@KrakDuk I hope so too ^^ With how much the general 40K fun base is growing, I'm glad to see channels like yours for the new folks and veterans alike! there is still other big 3 regiments like the mordians, valhallans, vostroyans and TOO MANY OTHERS TO COUNT XD
Actually that sword steel legion officer is clearly doing his best Obi-Wan impression, that stance is like his trade-mark. I guess someone in the depths of one of the hives found a copy of Star Wars: The Clone Wars and it went viral after some minor edits.
The tanith knife looks like the tradional knife in scotland called the sgian dubh(pronounced ski-n-doo).theyre a whole history to them that i cant remeber but nowadays its apart of the traditional kilt outfit

Definitely gonna cover the elysians sooner than later. Thanks for watching!
Armageddon Chimera APC Legions had me dying 😂
Love your videos watched all of them the last two days. Keep up the great work and your humour!
I love how he starts the intro of every regiment
The moment he brought up about Lawrence of Arabia I heard “As the darkness falls and Arabia calls, one man spreads his wings as the battle begins, may the land they claim unto Lawrences name and the pillars of wisdom lights the flame.”
This is my go to videos for Wh40k when I binge watch the Isyander and Koda episodes! Great drawings btw, wish I could do that lol.
Thank you very much! Glad you like the channel and art. It just takes practice, I’ve been drawing my whole life and some would say I’m still no good🤣
Hell yeah new duk video. Perfect way to start lunch break
Being watched during lunch breaks is one of the greatest honors a youtuber could received. Thank you for watching!
I love your artsyle so much, reminds me of slacking off in middle school playing castle crashers
Thank you very much! Tbh new grounds probably subconsciously inspired the way I draw. Loved playing castle crashes with the boys
@@KrakDuk its such a great game that and battleblock theatre
@@plasticbag4102 oh ya I don’t remember if I played battle block. It’s in my library tho so maybe I have
TREMENDOUS as always. Your videos are getting better and better. Love the art.
Thank you very much! I hope to improve with every one! Glad you like them
Oil up KrakDuk, I'll be there in 5.
🤣🤣
The GOAT of warhamer has returned!
I do love the tannith, they are my favorite guard regiment.
I was so fucking stoked when you said Tanith, I'm up to book 13 and i'm fething enthralled! Loving the content man, great job(:
I will suggest one regiment seriously, the Vitrian Dragoons and one just for the lols, the Tangar Woad Warriors from the 3rd Edition Guard codex who fight entirely naked and have the motto: "Believe will conquer bullets".
Wait thats actually pretty epic lmao, Ill have to look into them some more. Thanks for showing me them!
Hope next time we hear about one of the best, if not THE best regiments next time, the Valhallan 597th!
Oh and the rest of the Valhallans I guess
Can I request the Mordian Iron Guard, Valhallans and Savlar Chemdogs for the next one?
Yes, I definitely plan to cover all three of those fellas sometime down the line. I think the next video will either be Valhallans, Vostroyans, and a third or be focused on drop regiments like Elysians. Not entirely sure yet, but I do want to cover every major regiment eventually
Please don’t stop with the “THE best!” joke, it’s perfect
My favorite regiment doesn't even have official artwork, but it's the Lucifer Blacks. If you could cover them that'd be awesome despite the limited information we have on them
The steel legion also prominently display the gorget, which is a military fashion popular with a lot of forces, but particularly by the germans in we2
Do they have gorgets? Gorgets are the neck armor piece right? Pretty interesting parallel tho, I dont recall many models with it tho.
Thanks for watching
Great vid and the audio was fine throughout
I think we’d all love more of these guard videos but most of all I think a vid on your home-brew sea world Kasr’s would be quiet the hit, especially if you had a few named characters
As for my favourite guard regiment I like the Savlar Chemdogs, I find it cool how they’re all criminals who puff on space meth/opium in battle to cope with the horrors of war and give them a boost
Best content in the 40k yt community.
Keep it up : D
Thanks a lot I appreciate it!
*Yorkshire Noises* Durty Eldar Bastids
Mint!
Didn’t miss out the Welsh influence with the Tanith, good job dude
Thank you! Ya I often see this being overlooked in favor of Irish or Scottish.
As a Guardsmen collector, I am still extremely salty the Desert Raiders and Steel Legion models got discontinued by GW
Someone needs to ask KrakDuk to do a Guardsman regiment Tier List just to mess with him. :D
I love seeing the thrown into the sun bit
I bought my first set not long ago, Cadians, to be exact (there was nothing else, so I was oblivious to the others).
But so far, lore-wise, I like the Cadians, so far, and the Steel Legion aesthetic-wise, mainly because of the Panzergrenadier influence (it's also interesting to me that the paint scheme of them resembles the Afrika Korps in a way).
love your videos and animations man ! Keep up the good work
Thank you glad you like it! Ill defintely make more stuff
5:34 A GAME THEORY
Oh boy i can't wait to see more one of the best, if not THE BEST, maybe ever! guard regiment in the entire galaxy.
Best channel on TH-cam! Love it!
4:09 - Gentle reminder that the psychic awakening is a thing...
If history has taught me anything, its fear the sound of bagoipes.
Hell yeah. Bagpipes can go pretty hard
Cover the Goff legion. They wear black and checkered pattern clothes and stuff, then they run up and hit stuff with a choppa.
Ya making a video on ork Klans would be pretty fun to do! Thanks for watching!
There's so many great Regiments,.
Mine is the Praetorians but forgot to say why last video.
Zulu is an amazing film that Praetorians and their Games Day diorama was based on that campaign.
Give them the good old 1st Rank, Fire, 2nd Rank, Fire....
Steel legion is my first and favorite army.
Also the easiest i've ever had to paint. The coats, helmets, and masks are surprisingly simple.
@@Jaxter_5.56 i recently got some steel legion models! I’m excited to paint them up. I’ve been thinking of schemes
God I love the sharpe books
Love the vid! Can’t wait to see where you go!
Thank you very much! I'm also excited to see where this channel goes, I love making the videos so its been great so far
I love to see your channel growing so fast in such a short time ^^
a heretic in me yells to do a renegade guard next ahhahah
Thank you! Happy to see you supporting so early on. I’m hoping it continues to grow.
I’ll definitely cover some more chaos topics soonish(?) i want to diversify the factions covered on the channel.
Thanks again for watching!
@@KrakDuk I hope so too ^^ With how much the general 40K fun base is growing, I'm glad to see channels like yours for the new folks and veterans alike!
there is still other big 3 regiments like the mordians, valhallans, vostroyans and TOO MANY OTHERS TO COUNT XD
i haven't heard a lot about Maccabian Janissaries, but it would be nice to see u talk about them, the look fckn AMAZING :3
Literally my 3 favourite regiments
Krak Duk lore: KrakDuk has psyker powers and can yeet people into the sun.
Fucking steel legion That's what I have been I'm waiting for
I've always thought the tanith had a dash of the Chasseurs Ardennais in their inspiration.
The Ciaphas Cain books are basically Black Adder but in space.
Blackadder if he appreciated just how useful Baldric was
Love your videos, keep on going!
This is a great channel and I'm really enjoying the comedic take on 40k history.
Thank you very much! Glad you like the channel
Please please please please please I'd love to hear you talk about the Mordant Acid Dogs they're so fucking cool and underrated I'd love to see them get more attention!
A Sharpe reference in a 40k video? Now that's soldiering.
This is super interesting. Keep doing videos.
Thank you very much! I definitely will👍
