    Whenever someone asks me why a custom bass is 5-10k, I am going to show them this. Amazing work, looks great and is a completely unique instrument.

      At 10k it’s a mere 30 per hour (excluding material cost)!

    1/2 hour video showing 300 hours of pounded-out technical steps and hand artistry. Ive been building one-offs for 33 years and I learned some things. I’ve always operated under the adage; expertise should be on tap not on top. Good to see that spirit is alive and well on TH-cam.

    besides enjoying watching the meticulous work you doing, i also dig the reggae music you have going on in the background :D
    just got myself a custom made 6 string guitar and have developed a love for these hand made works of art now.

    its nice to see the full process, it really make the cost of a bass more justifiable. 300 hour of labor + cost of electronic/hardware/wood/machinery etc. i don't know the cost of this instrument but even if its in the 8-12k range, it is still perfectly reasonable from the luthier perspective now from a customer perspective its sure is freaking expensive but the cost is more than fair.

    My goodness. If I had a shop like that, I could make my basses approximately 1/2 as good as that one. Absolutely beautiful. That truss rod cover alone is amazing. Inspiring stuff, Sir.

    Amazing work. As a professional fabricator from a different field, I am beyond impressed. However, as a bassist I can't help but question the logic behind having this much work put into a 5s bass. I mean if you're going to spring for all that labor, why not just go with a 6s or even a 7s for that matter? It may not be part of your style now, but why not leave "headroom" for personal evolution?
    Thanks for the video!

    Just wanted to ask if there's a reason to choose hide glue for fretboard?

    • @silvermanguitars
      @silvermanguitars  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks. The reason for hide glue is it makes it easier to remove the fretboard cleanly if at some point in the future that needs to happen for a repair.

    Awesome. I’m beginner level, but why did you use shielding paint in the pickup cavity and copper tape in the control cavity? Aesthetics? More importantly, how’s that hipshot set? $600 USD for that alone! Really inspiring work overall. I bet your client loves that thing!

    • @silvermanguitars
      @silvermanguitars  27 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      It’s for aesthetics, the copper tape conducts better, but the paint works well enough and I prefer the look behind the pickups. The bridge has been getting heavy use on the road, and solid so far.

    Amazing build. One question: what do you think of the harmonic content of the sound? I did a headless 6 string many moons ago and it was rather too "pure" to my taste. Thanks a lot.

    • @silvermanguitars
      @silvermanguitars  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hard to say how headstock or lack of effects the sound because there are so many variables that are changed.
