Whenever someone asks me why a custom bass is 5-10k, I am going to show them this. Amazing work, looks great and is a completely unique instrument.
At 10k it’s a mere 30 per hour (excluding material cost)!
1/2 hour video showing 300 hours of pounded-out technical steps and hand artistry. Ive been building one-offs for 33 years and I learned some things. I’ve always operated under the adage; expertise should be on tap not on top. Good to see that spirit is alive and well on TH-cam.
Your exasperated precision in building this wonderful bass is to be appreciated.
You are now officially the level I aspire to. That is absolutely clean.
its nice to see the full process, it really make the cost of a bass more justifiable. 300 hour of labor + cost of electronic/hardware/wood/machinery etc. i don't know the cost of this instrument but even if its in the 8-12k range, it is still perfectly reasonable from the luthier perspective now from a customer perspective its sure is freaking expensive but the cost is more than fair.
Does he say it was 300 hours to build it?
@@chriss2452 yeah just at the beginning at 0:25 .
The work done and the technique applied to this piece of art is just amazing!
wow. fantastic craftmanship
My goodness. If I had a shop like that, I could make my basses approximately 1/2 as good as that one. Absolutely beautiful. That truss rod cover alone is amazing. Inspiring stuff, Sir.
Great work man! Stunning instrument
It‘s a beauty man! Great video too!
Churrrr Bro! Looks amazing! LAB is one of my favorite bands. Aloha from Hawaii 🤙🤙

Beautiful bass! I also noticed that he started to play some Level 42 (Love Games) at the beginning. ☮️💜😊

I don't normally like headless but wow
Nice wood shop! I really like your building process. Great work.
Stunning!
Thank you! 😊
Looks great. I'm beginning my first build. Definitely appreciate this inspiration my brother
Absolutely amazing work, wow !!!!!!! Thank you for sharing !!!!!
Thanks :)
Amazing work. As a professional fabricator from a different field, I am beyond impressed. However, as a bassist I can't help but question the logic behind having this much work put into a 5s bass. I mean if you're going to spring for all that labor, why not just go with a 6s or even a 7s for that matter? It may not be part of your style now, but why not leave "headroom" for personal evolution?
Thanks for the video!

Beautiful job! Love the front and the laminate neck. I'd worry about how easy it is to get into the control cavities with prying fingers though.
Dude not only is it a very very nice Guitar the standard of Craftsmanship in making it is Bloody Awesome best iv'e seen 😁😁🤘🤘🤘🤘
Sick bass and craftsmanship
Thank you :)
G'day from Palmy Nth. What an awesome build. Really enjoyed watching this.
Thanks for watching :)
สวยมากๆเลยครับ
Truth Road Replacement is basically impossible… basically you need a new bass 😅 killer job but impossible to repare if damage. 😢
What a beautiful instrument 😁
Your precision and care for details is amazing!
Just wanted to ask if there's a reason to choose hide glue for fretboard?
Thanks. The reason for hide glue is it makes it easier to remove the fretboard cleanly if at some point in the future that needs to happen for a repair.
How much does a bass like this cost? You do a very professional job. I congratulate you.
Did you design the template yourself? Amazing work
What kind of milling machine do you use? I've never seen woodwork done quite this way with one. It's wonderful!
The brand is Optimum. I didn't expect to use it in this way when I got it, but kept finding more and more uses!
Great Video and Bass! Where did you get the levered rod holders to glue the top together at 16:24? Thanks
Those are from Lee Valley, called dog hole clamps or something like that.
Strange! The instrument is of high quality, made of good wood, why spoil it with active pickups?
Amazing build. One question: what do you think of the harmonic content of the sound? I did a headless 6 string many moons ago and it was rather too "pure" to my taste. Thanks a lot.
Hard to say how headstock or lack of effects the sound because there are so many variables that are changed.
I know it would cost alot but how much tho ??? Sexy 5 string bass alright
How much is this custom-made?
Is that a rechargeable battery in the back?
It is, it’s the fishman universal.
Is it possible to purchase one similar ? How to conrtact you ?
