Current Ervin Somogyi Apprentice.
Somogyi Guitar Demo, Right After Stringing for the First Time
Strumming a few chords on this recently completed Somogyi Jumbo guitar. This has some serious low end power, and sounds just like I imagined a Somogyi would before I ever had a chance to play one. There’s a little bit of compression on the track to make up for my lack of playing and recording skills, but no other processing.

Wow, incredible work!!!
Good Job!
There's no good video on the internet I can find on how to get your facets right for the neck carve. Can you explain that? For example, how to come up with your own and how to copy one like a P bass.
This video might be helpful. th-cam.com/video/1m7gIHZryes/w-d-xo.htmlsi=zBBhiBw9w2g7uZ6x to copy a specific neck, make a template that matches the neck shape at each end, then trace those cross sections onto a piece of paper and carefully mark out and measure the facets.
Amazing work Brother! Epic skillset : )
Thanks!
Wow! immense skills you have Brother
No. With all that beautiful wood and all the equipment you have.... you made the headstock flipped... what's the point of making the through-body guitar if you cut off the head????
Beautiful design and you look concern and carefully to make that. well done and i salute u.
Amazing, thanks again for sharing
Love this one 👍
Amazing work you should be very proud of your craftsmanship... BRAVO
Demnnn ❤️💛💚
How can I learn to build guitars even nearly as well as you?
One thing that I found to be extremely helpful was to write everything down, I have a word document spelling out the full instructions on how to make a guitar. I update it each build as I find better ways of doing things, and to avoid mistakes of previous builds. Also just put in the hours of practice, be curious, always try new things, and push yourself out of your comfort zone with each build. Having sharp tools helps too. Or maybe that was a rhetorical question? 😂
@@silvermanguitarsit wasn’t a rhetorical question 😂, thank you for your advice! I’ll do all of those things!
Я думал, что Сомоджи сам делает свои гитары
What the amazing sound. Its incredible guitar!!!
Using a manual mill to machine wood is one of the most enjoyable things I've ever done. Your setup makes me wish I had a bigger machine though. 😁
I’d also love to have a bigger mill! Full on Bridgeport style would be great. Maybe one day…
Exquisite work, thanks for sharing
Thanks for sharing this amazing process.
Beautiful, terrific bass.
Beautiful guitar ❤
Awesome!
sounds like a Somogyi alright haha
😃
😜
@@silvermanguitars I think the guitar sounds good
Increible guitarra, me encantan las baritono de 7... Cran trabajo ❤❤❤❤
Can you provide a link to the serial number stamp holding fixture you used? I want to do the same to my basses. Thx.
Fantastic work high precision ,sound very nice, I am in Italy I hope your guitar coming in this country for shopping compliment bravissimo un vero artista
i want one so bad. they are so expensive and i dont have a shop to make my own.
I just realised why you never see cats in a wood shop. The cat only walks onto the table saw once.
It’s natural selection I guess 😂
Beautiful work! I was wondering. I’ve never used hide glue before, what’s the advantage it lends for the headstock joint in comparison to other glues? Thanks!
I find on light coloured woods it gives a more invisible glue line. Also when trying to line up the laminates of the neck and headstock, if I’m not happy with how they line up it’s easier to re do with hide glue. There are some disadvantages too, have to prepare the glue, pre heat the parts, and even then there is not much open time so need to be quick to get the clamps on.
Yep, that’s top tier
woah it sounds like a cave
wonderful work. I was wondering why you use a vacuum bag instead of clamps?
I found it a bit easier and quicker, and it works well in the case of bent laminations for example bending a top over a forearm carve. But clamps work fine, it’s personal preference mostly.
Wow.. that tailpiece and coverplate.. awesome job!
It was a real puzzle to figure that one out!
The whole process was so fun to watch. Absolutely beautiful!!
What an amazing video and the finish and workmanship on this bass is off the scale!!!
Nice build, would have been nicer to hear it being played
Agreed, wish I had done that. I didn’t have that long with the finished instrument before the customer picked it up, but yea it totally would have added to the video.
The best beautiful guitar
Very nice work! How long did it take?
It took about 6 - 7 hours for each square. I was being super slow and careful, because there’s no where to hide if I messed up.
@@silvermanguitars Yeah, you can see that it's a slow and tedious process. Worth it for the result though!
это произведение искусства!!!
Beautiful guitar!
Is it possible to purchase one similar ? How to conrtact you ?
Do you remember how thick the blank at the body part was at 6:32? I’m trying my 1st build and i think i’ve just rough cut the laminated parts down to 37mm, i’m not sure if the top is 10mm later, whether i’m gonna have enough meat to work with.
I don't see Ervin
I have read Somogyi's books like 5 times since they were released, I am looking forward to seeing your perspective about them. Thanks!
I read them a bunch of times too, kept finding more and more that I’d overlooked in previous readings.
@@silvermanguitars That's not difficult - Mr. Somogyi builds fabulous guitars but he could certainly benefit from an experienced Editor when writing. I could probably reduce their word count by 50% without losing any meaning. Nevertheless, a fascinating read and if I took one thing home, it's that every single aspect of a guitar interacts with the others to create its overall sound and response.
I enjoyed the writing style, but can see how it’s not for everyone.
Absolutely stunning build. Incredible attention to detail; I am blown away
How did you break into luthiery? Did you work as an apprentice under another builder? Do you or can you make a video about how you got into the craft, or how a person could best start as a luthier. How did you learn that your specific setup of tools worked best for your process? Thanks. I'm trying to get into luthiery. I just wanted to pick the brains of my favorite builders on TH-cam.
How long have you been a luthier? Your build process is amazing with your specialty tools. That milling setup with the stewmac safety-plane is so perfect.
Beautiful guitar and I love p90s but I gotta be honest, a tele without a bridge pickup is a crime against humanity.
This is art.
I've never seen a guitar made with such precision. Nicely done!
What type of sealer do you use?
