I live in OKC. It was on sale for $16.95. There’s only a handful of bourbons that can hang with this winter release at under 20 bucks. Very impressed. Probably gonna buy a case to stock up for all of 2025. A affordable daily pour, mixer etc. ❤
Most surprises are the whiskeys that underwhelm due to the recent escalation in whiskey prices in America - so it is always GREAT to experience a pleasant surprise among shelfers. My favorites whiskeys are shelfers that hit my palate better than the more expensive/rare bottles in my home selection. I'll definitely have to snag a bottle of Winter Reserve - I'm already a bit of Jim Beam fanboy (I even like drinking Old Tub neat) so this would be a low-risk acquisition. Slainte!
I was surprised by this bottle. A great bottle to bring to Thanksgiving…palatable for the family members who want a pour but aren’t into the high proof.
This is good. Is it fantastic? No….. is the price point fantastic? Yes this punches up in its class. Nose is fantastic, flavors are bolder than I had expectations for. Is it a little hot and thin? Yes. But it’s $25. This was a better buy for me than the Wild Turkey 8 year 70th anniversary
Gotta buy a bottle for the football tailgate Saturday. My biggest 2024 (good) surprise is Green River Full Proof. Better than many $125 bottles. Thanks for the great content Matt!
I watched a review a few weeks ago from someone who is NOT a Beam fan. They couldn't stop praising the product so that convinced me I needed t'o try some. I found a bottle and it sat in my closet for several weeks before trying it. I was amazed and went back and bought 2 more bottles. I generally don't consider any Beam products other than Knobb Creek but this one completely rocked my world. I will try to keep a bottle in reserve as long as I can find it.
I've been looking for this bourbon for about a month now and have yet to find it unforchantly but I'm happy to see you enjoyed it! Makes me want it more LOL
I'm gonna have to revisit this. I was tasting other things that were higher proof and/or more complex, and realized this was also available. I tried it and literally tasted nothing. After watching this, I'm thinking had I had it BEFORE the other things, I would've had a different experience. Thanks for your review, Matt! I'll give it a second chance.
surprise whiskey of 2024 (so far) for me is Jim Beam Single barrel. It's $38.99 where I live and I really enjoy the NCF and flavors. It's not complex, but it hits great notes for me. I'm really excited to try this one! This is the second and most credible positive review of this bourbon that I've seen in the last week
My name is Tod and I was a little weirded out when you went down the Hot-Toddy route....but how often do I hear my name on TV...I mean really. Thanks for stroking my ego if just for a couple seconds. Great review btw, now I need to check it out.
Great vid as usual! You ALWAYS brighten up my day! My surprise was a general shift towards Rye whiskies in 2024. And I'm finding out there's a BUNCH of them! So it's been a good whiskey year for me...
Green River came to my market this year and my best whiskey surprise of the year is how great they are. Everything I’ve tried from them is the best in its category/price point. Worst surprise was how little I liked Balcones Cataleja as a wine finished American single malt lover
Thanks, Matt, for this review! I have recently started drinking the Jim Beam Black 7 yr. Never before was I interested in Jim Beam. I'll definitely have to grab a bottle of this Winter Reserve!
Someone bought me Catoctin Hot Honey Rye and I have already drank half the bottle...absolutely incredible for cocktails. Also had a Filibister 5 yr BIB that was better than expected, not great, but good. Love the videos.
Sweet review...as I too am a product of Jim Beam I must look for this one...biggest surprise this year for me is the Full Proof Benchmark. Typically I have FP Bm on Ice as a after work pre -dinner pour...It slaps proof is good and flavor at sub-thirty dollars.
Dancing Goat Distillery Tommy’s Malted Bangdog Blended Bourbon! I’m not on the ASM train but it took me by surprise. Worth the $60 and I will be going back to it for sure. Cheers brotha
Best surprise was receiving the Purdue bourbon, probably MGP or something (I didn’t care to look), and having it be very tasty at a similar low proof point
@@ADHDWhiskey I just found out KC is a Beam product like 5 minutes ago…JB and KC couldn’t be more different in my mind. Agree on the nuttiness, do you also get that on KC?
Hey Matt, I'm worried you might have an infection of the sinus, do you feel any symptoms, it might drain overnight leaving little evidence. But build up in the day causing inflammation.
Matt, you got me buddy. I went out and bought this bottle based on ur review. Evan Williams white label beats this hands down. this isn't even close to the best budget bourbon of 2024. This costs the same as WT 101 which is infinitely better. Where's the trust?
So I’ve begun a new game called, “Guess Matt’s Score.” And I’m getting pretty damn good at it - had you scoring this as a 7.4 based on your review before the reveal. Also, would you rec this for ppl who generally enjoy the profile of toasted bourbons? 🤔
Over in Longmont, CO. Went looking at 5 different shops for this mysterious Jim Beam....twas not to be found. So, in the meantime, a little BiB Old Overholt to satisfy the el cheap sipper in me (set next to my Little Book, and Stagg collection...that I won't open yet...cuz I'm a cheap ass....that spent a lot of money on hookers....I mean Bookers)
No, I believe Jim Beam 7 (aka Black) is a different product, but also a budget bourbon though. This is Jim Beam Winter Reserve, which is finished in toasted barrels. It’s hard to keep track but Matt did reviews of 3 Jim Beam products back to back to back

I bought the Beam Winter and the WT Jimmy Russell 70th the same day, and it's easily the best $70 I've spent on sauce, I love them both.
Sauce 🤔
I was surprised by this bottle. A great bottle to bring to Thanksgiving…palatable for the family members who want a pour but aren’t into the high proof.
dude, you're hilarious and your bourbon palate is damn good.
Im on my 3rd bottle. Makes a great old fashioned.
I too was pleasantly surprised by this bottle. Looking forward to using it for some holiday cocktails and maybe even eggnog
Simply the best no look pourer in the world. You nailed it once again. The carpet matching the drapes was a surprise for sure.
Seriously, best whiskey reviewer out there! Need to update your Diet and Whiskey videos though! We're all experiencing the struggle!

My big surprise was how much I enjoyed a Stranahan's Cask Strength Single Barrel. It was 4yr 11mo old and the first single malt I've ever liked.
My memory is terrible but I think Evan Williams Hero Edition was my biggest surprise. Cheers

Green River Barrel Proof is *definitely* a surprise hitter (as is James E. Pepper's decanter series, though it costs $20 more than GRBP). Slainte!
I'm hot on the trail for this bottle. 3:45 to 4:00. The best part of the review 😁.
Nice review! I'll have to go get one. I was surprised by the James Pepper decanter bottle. I got it for the bottle, but the whiskey was dang good!

Looks like beam’s hit another bangerrr! I loved their uncut unfiltered 5-6yr when that came out, wish the proof was higher but imma stock up on this.
Thanks Matt. I need to try this one. It sounds like a nice sipper and "nice for the price"

Decent beginner pour, would be interested in a higher proof! OR even in some Egg nog!
My favorite budget bourbon finds of 2024 so far are Benchmark Full Proof And Redemption High Rye. But i will definitely check out the JB Winter!😊
Please oh please never change your music
Matt likes it, so now I gotta grab a bottle
$25 for 6 year juice finished in toasted barrels?! Pshhhyeah. I'm not a huge Beam fan, but I'm down to clown with that value.
This stuff really slaps! I’m gonna get a 7yr Beam and another one of these winter reserves and make the ultimate Beam 88 proof

@@matthewdaly7423lol thanks. It used to be DeerSlayer BonesJones after my brother dared me to change it once. It transformed to this and just stuck.

This bourbon may have destroyed your expectations, but the bottle DESTROYED my butthole!
Ok, twist my arm, I’ll give this a try if I see one.
Mr Buttons from Fairplay, CO surprised me the most this year.
Okay, here I go to get one now!
The big question is, do you normally like Jim Beam? I've never had anything from Beam that I like; so I'm skeptical.
In the same boat. Waiting for this answer as well lol
Not topically. Usually, it's far too nutty for me.

I can't seem to find this anywhere in Calif. Maybe it's because we don't really have a winter. We're not worthy.

Knob rye x bourbon was a good surprise for me
I do Dig some Toasted!!
Definitely an easy sipper. I enjoyed it for a sub 25 dollar bottle.
I snagged a bottle last weekend and it’s was money well spent. $25.99 for me.
I’m glad I bought it was weak. Toasted lamenesss reminds me of Basil Hayden’s Toasted. Ghosted bourbon 🥃

Thanks for the video! Makes me wonder if Beam added vanilla and cinnamon to the whiskey? Anyone know?
Wouldn’t be bourbon if they added shit
@@B-fq7ff right- just a weird description on their site. Makes me wonder even though I understand what you said has to be right.
It's a straight bourbon.
Well done then. Concensus gathered. I’ll leave it at that lol
What’s the difference between it and JB black 7 year?
Hey Matt, just a heads up… Amazon has 12 pk Ghost Swedish Fish for $30
The same 6 year toasted whiskey from a NDP or craft distillery would sell for $127

I do not understand how, but Jim Beam has managed to F up all their products to the point I can't consume any of them. I find them all horrible.
