I agree with the source of the grain being important. Grains will develop flavors based on the soil and environment they grow in. You see this with cows, for example, where beef from different parts of the world will carry different flavor profiles. That’s why I’m open to distillers sourcing ingredients to try new things, to experiment.
My personal favorite "grain to glass" distiller is FREY RANCH, of Fallon, NV. They make bourbon, and Rye whiskey. "Be good to the land, and the land will be good to you."
I would love to meet you folk and sit n sip a dram awhile with you all one day. Im a 35YO Jock(the Scots term, not the American) and I was mute until I was 3, my first words being the (most basic version) of the full distillation process of Whisky. My father was a master stiller for United distilleries before they got bought out by Diageo, and I spent my youth on still tours and quality checks across the highland and islands of Scotland. And you all keep showing the passion for the fire water, despite its origins, that my late father had and distilled(pun intended) in me. Slàinte mhath to you and all your kinsfolk.
@@CheriReese-v9q They arrived yesterday and I tasted them all last night. It was really interesting to taste the Roknar Rye & Roknar Bonded Rye side-by-side. Really enjoyed all of them! Looking forward to ordering the Single Varietel series from Seelbach's.
I don't want to be a shill for whisky tribe....but I've had an original grain watch for over five years. I always get comments on it. Not the most spectacular movement, but super unique.
I am now convinced that you can say anything you like when describing whiskey tasting notes. For instance you could say that it smells of a hint of dogs vomit and Briana goes .... "yeah yeah, I totally get that" then Rex chimes in with "I'm getting a hint of arse" and Briana responds with "interesting". Just make it up as you go along and you won't be too far wrong. 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Just don't take this too seriously.
Edaphology The same type of orange tree that is cultivated 300km's from my backyard is a totally different orange. It's called "condições edafoclimáticas" The weather, the climate, the pollinators and other factors, make a difference, which will affect the final product.
I like how original grains watches look, except their huge generic font logo written across the watch face looks so tacky and cheaply branded. They need a nice little logo there instead, it would improve the aesthetic immensely and I'd buy one.
Talking about kilometers first, brand has swedish O in it and township is straight from southern sweden without the swedish 0... Minnesota had some influences from Sweden and Finland throught immigration but does Michael have some background from these coutries?
The Får North Whiskey, is using a scandinavian å, and that word "får" means "sheep". Sheep North Whiskey. And why does he have Skane Township, when the region in southern Sweden is spelled Skåne. The ring is simply in the wrong place! :D
Skane Township is where we are located in Minnesota; it is the proper name of where the farm is. Yes, we have taken some decorative license with the Å in the logo design of Far North Spirits and realize that it means sheep in Norwegian. : )
It’s funny when people bring Scandinavian characters in to the non Scandinavian languages. Får in Norwegian means sheep. I suppose it’s ment to look cool, but to me at least it’s the opposite to mix ÆØÅ/æøå in to English… 🫣
This should be a regular series. Like,"Meet the Distiller". Do one a month or every other week. 10 thumbs up.
Yes
That would be awesome…totally agree
Agree, but loose the tube sock. Based on the 11/16 show, maybe an Octomore inspired foot mitt?
@@czaxisUse the almighty oversized Pringles can, but get a custom wrap on it incorporating what it’s all about
I love it when people are motivated by curiosity, because they're not usually invested in a particular answer, they're invested in GETTING the answer.
I love the reach Far North Spirits has gained. The distillery, bar, and farm in Hallock are such gems.
Just a plug for Frey Ranch, a distiller that is doing grain to glass.
Great tour and good people there
Most definitely. Good stuff. Haven't done the tour yet, but it's on my list.
Roknar is one of my faves, when the wife is in the mood for a drink she always asks for the "Viking Juice"😍
Absolutely love the knowledge freely given in this
Far north Haslett 100 proof rye was my favorite whisky of the Ball. Thanks for this episode.

Michael was such a delight to meet and talk with at Bastards Ball and Far North's rye is fantastic. And I am 100% with him on the Stauning. So good
Do this so much more ... there is so much Whiskey to try, bring the most interesting and the people with the most care

Really enjoyed the editing on the whisky reveal, made me chuckle
Far North is amazing! My family used to live in Hallock, MN. But I never got to visit the distillery while they did
Wonderful to see Far North represented here on the Tribe. Great things coming out from northwest Minnesota! Love their work! ❤

I LOVE this new series of videos! Great stuff!!
Great show today, Briana even makes the commercials watchable....😀
Får means sheep in Swedish. The circle over Å changes the pronunciation completely.
That Stauning is my go to whiskey. It just magically empties and I don't know why. Have a lot of other ones ofcourse, but it is a really nice rye.
People should also check out “Arbikie Highland Estate” in Angus, Scotland. Field to bottle Rye and Malt Whisky
Not available near me but just ordered the Roknar Rye, Roknar Bonded Rye, & Bodalen Bourbon from their website. Can't wait to try them!
Thank you for ordering our whiskies online! We hope you enjoy them.

Long Term Fan Guys
Thank you for your good work
A Swanson loving whiskey just feels right 😌👌
I love that he isnt trying to complete with the industrial farming system. Instead he is creating a 'value added' product while bypassing wholesalers.
I love these videos, its soo nice to hear whisky people talk passionetly about other whisky
Love his POV. Lots to learn. Need to find a bottle from Far North somehow.
Ha I was screaming Waterford at my screen at the start of this video, glad to see them get a shoutout 😄
Great vid. I'm also very concerned about the process of getting it out of the glass, though. Cheers, all!
Love Stauning! They do some great stuff. I'll have to try to find Far North next time I visit the US.
Minnesota! Where the mosquitos don't need straws to drink the whiskey.
The "land of 10,000 lakes," a state I've visited once, and never want to go again... Far, far too many mosquitos.
@@jreyman You should come in February. The mosquitos have their winter coats then and are a lot easier to swat.
Loved this one!!

Fantastic video!
when i think of seed to glass...i thing of frey ranch
We have a great grain to glass distillery out here in MO, Nobletons distilling
What about taking your distillate and barreling it at three different proofs to compare it?
I have 5 different bottles of Far North in my collection. If they make a recommendation, I’m going to hunt it down
Thank you - wow! We appreciate your support.

Our heritage is Swedish and Norwegian.
@CheriReese-v9q nice to see cultural appreciation in that sense too

It is funny. And it is meant to be a decorative nod to our Scandinavian heritage, which we are embracing.
