      When i saw the title of the video my first thought was, dude, people wanna know how you tune your floor tom. ^^

    • @audhen1
      @audhen1 4 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Ambassador Coated on Bottom
      Emperor Coated on Batter
      Bottom to a medium high tone.
      Batter as loose as possible without getting wrinkles.
      Put a piece of fluffy cotton IN the floor tom. It will act as a noise gate.
      Little EQ, compression and gateing.
      The rest will be trying :D

      @@audhen1 Good advice, but note that this only sounds good when mic'ed or sitting behind the kit. If you tune the tom this low and it's not mic'ed it will sound like cardboard to someone standing in front of the stage or even a few feet away. But generally that's how I tune my floor toms too!

    Perfect tuning, Benny! I, personally, tune the bottom head a 5th above the batter head so that there is a perfect 5th interval between the two. Like a power chord! In music theory, it is said that a perfect 5th is the most harmonious and pleasing for the ear tuning interval.

    I never knew that trick about barely touching the top head while de-tensioning the strainer to maximize the snare sound and allowing the strainer and the bottom head to do their work. Thanks so much for the advice!

    The word "Nupsi" is usually used in normal language use when the speaker does not think of the right word for such an object. This term is usually associated with a funny, joyful, interesting, extraordinary or trivial little something. The use of the word is spreading more and more! In some parts of Germany the Nupsi is also written with b (Nubsi), in Berlin there is also talk of a "Nu-hu-psi", which is jokingly accompanied by a circling movement of the right index finger. -translated from JazzmanTV Community
    thanks for that, sir. made my day.

    Killer video! Great pragmatic method of tuning without overcomplicating this topic. It makes me want to tune my drums. It also made me order the snare (brass version that is) because the dampener design is super smart and makes for a super versatile snare.
    My compliments on not only being an outstanding drummer but maybe even more so a great educator. It’s not easy getting stuff like this across and this will stick with me. Now I cannot wait to receive the snare, start this video and repeat the process :-D!!

    Pa los que les cueste el ingles....
    Primero presenta la tarola con sus dos dampeners y recomienda usar el parche de Remo La serie Ambasador Coated, igual recomienda usar la llave Remo porque tiene un plastico que permite apretar solo con los dedos.
    1.- ajustar el parche con el aro sin apretar los tornillos solo hasta que toquen el aro
    2.- con solo la presion de los dedos apretar los tornillos hasta que te sea posible, sin usar la "T" de la llave
    3.- Con la llave dar un cuarto de vuelta en sentido de las manecillas del reloj, cada lug sin saltar uno solo.
    4.- Con la palma de la mano presiona el parche (importante que la tarola este en el suelo o una alfombra para no lastimar el parche resonador y el entorchado)
    5.- con un baqueton para timbales, revisar la afinacion lug por lug, si uno esta mal ajustar hasta que tengan el mismo tono.
    6.- la prueba y toca como la leyenda que es.
    7.- para Bajar el Tono o la afinacion solo elige un lug y lo "desafina".
    P.D. No aprietes mucho el entorchado, Don't be that guy!

    There is a company called Mashoff drums. He has a video called "Best Tuning Trick" or something simlar. He does a similar thing to dropping the two lugs closest to you.

  • @attekarppinen5083
    @attekarppinen5083 4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    Mechanically even tension like this is nice assuming all your tuning rods are equally "slick", i.e. they don't present different levels of resistance. Some snare rods (or lugs), no matter how you lube them, will feel tighter to tune even if the tension applied on the head is the same. Not all of us have brand new Benny Greb Signature snares :)
    And I do the same starting point by simply getting the tuning rods as tight as I can with just my fingers. My snare has enough room just under the hoop where I can grab the top threads of the tuning rod and really get them somewhat tight there already. No need for a key that has that thingy on top. Messy though.

    • @tobiashummel3396
      @tobiashummel3396 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Same here

    • @jc3drums916
      @jc3drums916 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Exactly. There's no way to guarantee the friction between each tuning rod and its lug is equal to all the others, especially if the drum is old and perhaps in need of a little maintenance. That said, Benny's snare sounds incredible here, room acoustics aside. It makes me want to get a 13" or 12" snare.
      I get the tuning rods to just touching, then tension the lugs the same amount by sight (half turn, or whatever is needed to get a tone when I tap the head near the lugs). Then I fine-tune the lugs to sound the same. That's what I use as a starting point.
