I also can't believe Gene released a book where he states, in so many words, that he was most proud of cleaning himself up for his girlfriend, perhaps inadvertently forgetting how he dragged his mother threw one bedroom apartments and both of them sleeping in an art studio by night. To answer some questions asked below: Ed's Intro here was tacked onto this Song. His words were for when they DID Open that same Show w/ "Lonely Too Long" and "Come On Up".
    "Love Lights" was edited out of this (rather shoddily!!!) because of Copyright Issues. "drumsport" mentioned Eddie's and Gene's out-of-sync BG Vocals. See how Gene is always looking around; mainly at Felix?? Felix f**ked-up and started his Vocal too EARLY. Gene (and Dino) noticed that; but, see Dino then laugh (1:07) when he and Gene could read Felix's Lips and see where he was at. That COULD have been disastrous!!! Great Song, nonetheless!!!

      Were all of these edits done for TH-cam, or for the reissue of the Ed Sullivan Show. I'd kill to see the original version of this, especially since Gene considers this their greatest live performance ever.

      Added to the confusion, I'm sure, was the inability of them to hear each other properly on the live tv set. But, the pros they were, they recovered nicely.

      I think Felix did a pretty darned good job with the B-3 bass pedals though. Felix is impressive to watch-not only is he an amazing singer, watching him play that Hammond is magical. It can’t be easy to play AND sing and he does both so masterfully. Truly one of the best bands of the ‘60’s.

      @@shelleyfiorini-ue3wranytime I hear a band with a B3 Hammond of course instantly you know it but it is so full and such a rich background it enhances that song like no other instrument it's such a wall also great if you're not carrying a second guitar player when you're soloing You don't have that empty void to fill.

      You should hear Dino play the bass guitar!! It really is ridiculous how close they resemble each other. I love Dino from the first time I saw him playing his drums. My first real good set of drums were the ludwigs and they were the Pink Champagne as they called it in those days!! I never and I do mean never thought the band or Dino were underrated. He did what he did in the traditional grip!! I think he was probably loved more than he ever knew.🙏❤️🥁

    February 1967, huh. So this was after The Beatles released Revolver, but three or four months before Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. And The Rascals are just tearin' it up.
    And it's 14 to 16 months before Martin Luther King, Jr. and then Robert Kennedy were assassinated, after which The Young Rascals became The Rascals, and their songs became much more political.
    Damn. All four of them are goin' crazy here. If you can think of another band that was rippin' it up like that in 1967, I'd like to hear about it. Blood, Sweat, and Tears with Al Kooper? I don't think so.
    The Paul Butterfield Blues Band with Mike Bloomfield? Sorry, but no.
    Tearing. It. Up.
    Ed Sullivan is obviously thrown at the end. He's stunned. And the audience is screaming their heads off.
    Amazing work.

      Not sure about the PC comment, though there's too much PC all the way around today, but PC doesn't cure a lot of the disgusting stuff that gets recorded today. If Smokey did this song today, I doubt if it would raise any flack.

    Eddie Brigati: Italian cheekbones, British teeth.
    Never quite figured out why he was in the Rascals - sure he could sing, but Felix could sing better and did. Was it just for stage presentation, that they needed somebody to jump around? That could have been a problem: Felix was stuck behind that B-3; neither he nor Gene had matinee-idol faces; and while Dino had the face and the energy level, HE was stuck behind the drums.

    • @jg6698
      @jg6698 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Listen to Eddie's vocal on How Can I Be Sure and get back to us. Dino was "stuck" behind the drums because he was an all time great. What a dumb comment. You sound like someone who wasn't even around back then casting a boy band for some stupid contemporary TV "talent" show.
