Two really funny stories. First, the show site at the Nashville regional in 2008 was completely wacky. Totally weird acoustics in the gym/theater where the show was. Everyone had a rough prelims run. It was my age out with Gateway Indoor doing Michael Jackson. We completely crapped the bed in prelims. X went on right after us. Probably had a worse run than we had. Gateway and MCM got to rehearse in the show site that night. We have a killer rehearsal while MCM is watching us. MCM helps us pack all of our stuff and we help them move into the gym. The whole time MCM is telling us “you guys are beating us tomorrow…” had an absolutely killer show the next day, MCM goes out and does well. We get it in our heads that we could possibly beat MCM and X. X comes out and kills it. We nearly beat MCM. We go to finals week with basically no improvements to our show and X comes out with arguably one of the cleanest indoor performances of all time. Nick Angelis was telling some our guys “indoor lines just don’t play clean” all weekend. Nick watches X on finals night. *snare break ends* Nick: “That was f*cking clean!!!” 😂

Yea that 2008 Nashville regional was wild. I believe it was in Vanderbilts concrete gymnasium. I was there competing in open class that year. You couldn’t hear anything! -Evan

@@agedoutpodcast yeah we foolishly thought we’d beat X that year. Ha. Those dudes were super clean finals week. There was no question they were going to win that year. I don’t think there was a single tick in that finals snare break.

I do remember that place sounding absolutely horrible. I think we had a tear in the beginning.. probably the one and only time that I can remember. Other than that I thought we had a good run in Nashville in 08. There’s a tape out there somewhere where the judge said the snare break was “literally perfect” and he didn’t know how it could get any better before finals. Also, 2008 is definitely my favorite I ever marched in indoor even though most people like 09 better than 08…

I went to finals in 2008 as a spectator since my high school wouldn’t let us go to Dayton and compete 2 years in a row. So glad my mom was a real one. Seeing this live was incredible

I was unaware WGI even existed in 2008 and this is one of those that I’m extremely sad I never got to see live -Mike

Love your channel guys! X 2008 was one of the shows that got me into WGI / DCI drumming. Would be super interested to see you guys react to 2010 X if it isn't on your to-do list already...I still try to chop my way through the snare break from that year with my old man hands 😅

Kevin Hankins and Tommy Roam are definitely a Dynamic Duo on Top 2 Basses (From Bloo to X). They are in my book along with these duos mentioned below:
Michael Swain and Robert Wassum (Infinity 13-16)
Matt Walters and Lauryn Bremner (RCC 08-09) or
Anna Ryu and Lauryn Bremner (RCC 06-07)

2008- greatest show of all time.
2013- easiest winning show of all time and idk how in the world it got the highest score of all time at that point
