Thanks for this Brett. The 83 Sox get lost by the 84 Cubs-85 Bears and then Jordan in Chicago sports history.

Ron Kittle was my neighbor and I was 15 in 83. I still have a ball he signed to me on my desk to this day. One of my favorite players ever. What a season. I was sure we were going to win it all that year.

LaMarr Hoyt just passed away on 30/11/2021. He was an outstanding pitcher on that amazing Chicago White Sox team in 1983:

My first ever White Sox game in person was in 1983 at Old Comiskey Park. My dad took me to see the White Sox vs. Yankees. Loved every single minute of it!! I was 6 at the time. What a blast I had with my pop!!

I was only 5 years old in 1983, but I do remember sitting on my Dad's lap and watching games with my Dad. Ron Kittle was my Favorite White Sox player.

Thanks for the upload...I loved that 83 team, more than the 2005 team and the 2005 team won it all..they were a special team..

I can respect that. 83 clinched the West too early and had no edge. As we know 05 went down to the wire in reg season and they were a well-oiled winning machine for the postseason

The Orioles core guys were battle tested for years in AL East playoff contention agsinst the Yankees, and a World Series appearance in 79’. They had poise. They earned it. The Sox had no competition in their division that year. In the playoffs, they couldn’t hit in the clutch, and made serious baserunning errors. The Orioles staff was supburb with their off speed pitching. This was Baltimore’s last shot to win the World Series with a veteran group. The front four rotation for the Sox, pummeled in 84 along with the offense. The minute Jack Morris threw that no-hitter, I knew the Sox were done for that the year. Detroit would dominate that year.

As a White Sox fan, I wish I could disagree with you, but unfortunately you have a point. I was 12 when Chicago won that year and lost to Baltimore, and being in a community of Cubs' fans at that time, it was the greatest thing to laugh at others when they won the division, and the worst thing to see them lose in the ALCS. It was heartbreaking.
But when I look back at it now, I think the better team won that ALCS. The Orioles had three future Hall of Famers (Murray, Ripken, Palmer) plus some solid players like Singleton, McGregor, Boddicker, Tippy Martinez, Dennis Martinez, etc. They were quality, and I suppose as a baseball fan I should celebrate that the better team won. Still, if just one or two things would have gone the other way, the White Sox might have pulled it off. Oh well, it was still a blast to watch, and they will always be my all-time favorite single-season team.

Lonnie Craig I I am a White Sox fan not an Orioles fan. I was writing objectively as a baseball fan. I also was a northsider. My father worked on the southside and I adopted the White Sox as my other team. 1983 and 84 for me as a young teen was the most exciting seasons in my life. It felt as if they did win the World Series in those days. Of course the ultimate Was in 05’ and 16’. God Bless

VolumedMusicMan I know you were being objective, and I appreciate people who try to look at things realistically. No sweat at all. I too felt the same way as you back then, and it crushed me as a 12-year-old in a community of Cubs' fans when they lost to Baltimore. But if I would have been more clear-headed about it, it wouldn't have really shocked me. Baltimore had a fine team that year.
I can't say I really care about the Cubs much, though I have no hatred towards them like most White Sox fans do. But my dad, who is 84 years old and is losing his short-term memory slowly but surely, has been a Cubs' fan his entire life. To see the Cubs finally win the whole thing in 2016, and to see my dad have the satisfaction of seeing his favorite team win the Series that year, was exceedingly satisfying. I also have friends up north (I live in Arkansas right now) who are Cubs' fans and I am happy for them that they got to see it, just as I got to see a Series championship in 2005.
But 1983 will always be my favorite single-season team. There was just something about that year that was so much fun.
God bless you too and take care!

The Orioles were forced to put John Lowenstien, who was a miserable defender, in LF in game four and he makes the ridiculous sliding shoestring catch on Harold Baines bases loaded line drive said it all in this series. The Sox were clearly;y the better team b ut just couldn't;t make it happen. Kittle missing that last game after being hit by Boedeker in the knee didn't help

You can't say that about the '24 Sox. Instead of Winning Ugly, they're Losing Pretty. And we all know who we can blame THAT on.

That series against the Orioles broke my heart. I was so young (just turned 7 that summer) and I honestly couldn't comprehend how we were losing to the Orioles.
That Summer, that Team is the reason I fell in love with Baseball! I will always remember that team!

@@travismcdonald6576 OH absolutely, that team was SO MUCH FUN!
And I think that a lot of people forget that it was the way the entire organization performed together, from the Players, Coaches, Ownership, and even the Broadcast/Announcer Team.
The nicknames. The Comebacks. The Rookies. The Pitching. The Veterans. Everyone did their job, and everyone had fun...
There was not a single kid who wasn't pretending to be Greg Luzinski or Ron Kittle on the playground that season!!

@dave4248 Matt Millen? I'll have to look him up. When I was younger I loved the gimmicky nature of Hawk's game calling. As I got older and wiser, could not stand him. Benetti and Stone are amazing in the booth and we're lucky to have them.
