And old Uncle Kazimir telling stories about walking backward with his toupee in the air as he plucked purple lint out of his navel. We all had one of those, right?
I think this was the first time NBC used the theme music that it had for the All-Star Game and postseason games from 1983-1985, and for Game of the Week from 1986-1988.
Who'd a thunk George Burns would be asked to sing Take Me Out To The Ballgame? At his age I'm surprised was able to walk as well as he did. He also sang I Wish I Was 18 Again.
Starting at about 1:17:20 the announcers discuss 'the yips' and Garagiola even admits he used to have trouble throwing back to the pitcher. A few years later that same issue would end Mackey Sasser's career.
How could NBC have missed introducing the returning veterans of the 1933 game. They came back from a commercial and there were a bunch of old guys surrounding the mound, but other than Lefty Gomez who threw out the first pitch, none was individually introduced or shown in closeup. Scully read off then names but that was it.

four Expos in the starting line up including a future Cub Dawson and future White Sox Raines, a shame they were unable to win a title with that group
I still have my dads old VHS copy of this (which he originally recorded on a Betamax) most of our old VHS' got thrown out but I made sure to save it
It has additional pre game stuff on it, I would upload it if I had the software to upload a VHS onto TH-cam
i can transfer it all for you free off the beta and send it all back to you and you can post it. i would like to see the extra coverage you have i watched it all as a kid.
southparkfan2717-- Take your old betamax and VHS tapes to Costco's photo section and they can transfer it to a DVD rather inexpensively. Once you have the game (or movie, whatever...) on either DVD or flash drive format, it is easy to upload to mail or TH-cam.
This is really awesome. Thanks for sharing. I remember this game as I was 14 yrs old and the Fred Lynn grand slam HR of Atlee Hammaker.
I was at this game would never forget it was at the old timers game the day before this was such a great memory to see this again
I love hearing the pitch and innings count of Steib’s starts that season. We will never see that again.
Blue Jays were rising up in 1983. Only not being able to catch up with the amazing 1984 Detroit Tigers with amazing winning streak.
The second of three All-Star Games that NBC would show while it had its 1979 bird and N (the first was in 1981, and the last was in 1985).
I was too young to see the AL win in 71. So I had not seen the AL win a AS Game since I started following baseball in 74. I was so glad to see the AL finally win the AS Game!
Same here.
Only one the American League won until the mid 90's
@@jamesarmstrong1811 AL won in 86, 87, and 89.
Love the old school organ player when the players are being announced
The "old school" organ player was no other than the White Sox legendary organist Nancy Faust who played for 41 seasons from 1970-2010
This was just 18 days before George Brett's date with pine tar history.
Look at the stirrups & white cleats by Tim Raines and Andre Dawson awesome …..bring back stirrups
Paul Ankas Time of your life to the baseball legends Classic!!
If Dale Murphy would have started his career in 2010 he would have made 250 million.....mike trout makes 34.1 million per year
I have to watch old All-Star games to see real competitive baseball that I don’t see anymore😂😂😂take out slides, bunting, pitchers hitting, intentional walks, hit and run and this is supposed to be an exhibition game smh I miss this so bad
Back when this game meant something to the respective teams . When the players had pride .
Back when the MLB all-star game was huge.
Fred Lynn was a big time AllStar performer. Homered in 4 or 5 Allstar games.
Hammaker was throwing batting practice to the American League. After playing for an awful 84 Giants team, he pretty much faded into obscurity.
Thank you x10 for posting these amazing games.
The Oak Ridge Boys knocked the National Anthem out of the park.
I remember watching this game live in 83 as a kid, I have not watched the video yet but a think I remember a grand slam by Fred Lynn off of Atlee Hammaker why that stick in my mind for nearly 40 years I don't know but I think that's what happens, Biggest moment of Atlee's career right here.
The 80s uniforms are the best
No, they weren't.
And surely it would not be Comiskey Park without those exploding scoreboard - FIREWORKS! AND THEY DID HAVE THE REAL FIREWORKS!
So many great players in this game.. all Hall of Fame players..Schmidt, Rice ,Brett, Ozzie Smith, Yount, Winfield,Carter,Dawson,Raines, Rickey Henderson, Reggie Jackson, Johnny Bench, Yaz, also Fred Lynn, Al Oliver, Dave Stieb, Willie Mc Gee Rod Carew ...did I forget anyone..?? Oh yeah Eddie Murray..Wow how many Hall of Fame guys in one game?? ... 1980s baseball is the best ever🙂
How could I miss Cal Ripken?
Ah yes! Vin Scully and Joe Garagiola! They "sound" so baseball you could swear you could smell the odor of peanuts and popcorn coming out of the TV! Fact, we had a "nuts & corn" Dumont model! We all had one of those, right? Those were the days! No tweeting. Very little on cable. And old Uncle Kazimir telling stories about walking backward with his toupee in the air as he plucked purple lint out of his navel. We all had one of those, right?
That montage starting at 1:08 was amazing!
I think this was the first time NBC used the theme music that it had for the All-Star Game and postseason games from 1983-1985, and for Game of the Week from 1986-1988.
Back in 1983 over 30 million people would watch the All Star game now they can barely get 5-6 million.
Anyone else watch these videos to see just how many really good players you have forgotten about?
Note The public address announcer: Wayne Messmer, known for his legendary national anthems at the old Chicago Stadium
Now is the anthem singer for the Chicago Cubs.
How Herzog could leave Hammaker in as long as he did is beyond me
Here it is almost 40 years, Fred Lynn is the only man to get a grand slam in the All-star game, it hasn't happened since.
Most of the guys shown during the Paul Anka song sadly are gone.
The old comiskey park
Baseball Was worth watching
AL Non-Pitcher Starters: All HOFers except Trillo and Lynn. NL Non-Pitcher Starters: All HOFers except Sax, Murphy, and Oliver.
Mike Schmidt had a mustache template alot of the guys wanted
Out of the NL Starting Hitters Steve Sax is the only one not in a powder blue uniform lol.
15:50 Introductions
41:45 First pitch
Love you Mr. Scully....
Went to the old-timers game who's my buddy and his little brother can't remember who played in the game but those were the days
Highlight - Chuck Mangione playing O Canada!
I was there. So I never saw this until tonight. And imagine that, all the players remained in the dugout after they left the lineup.
Way to cue up the first-ever All Star grand slam, Vin! 1:08:08
37:10 the guy in the stands conducting the national anthem is great 👍🏻
How is Al Oliver not in the HOF?
Carew hitting .402 at the break? They say it casually as if it's not a HUGE deal.
Atlee Hammaker will never be the same again.........
Pascual Perez’s hair 😲during the introduction … and I’m pretty sure Bill Dawlee was Bill Lambier in disguise 🥸
4 Expos starting ….count it 4….damn so close to making it to a World Series.. sadly, never happened
Was Carew an all-star every year he played? Wow!
We miss you dearly Vinny
