Hawk Harrelson isn’t necessarily wrong to be upset with the umpires about that call, but he should be more upset about the White Sox players for allowing 4 unearned runs to score in that inning in the first place. When you make dumb mistakes like that, you are pushing your luck in the first place, and you are at the mercy of the umpires not complicating matters further. One of the golden rules of baseball is to not put yourself in a situation where an umpire can make a bad call that could potentially cost your team the game if you can avoid it. I don’t know when that game took place, but I think under today’s rules, that runner might have been allowed to score anyway.

The Orioles were forced to put John Lowenstien, who was a miserable defender, in LF in game four and he makes the ridiculous sliding shoestring catch on Harold Baines bases loaded line drive said it all in this series.
