    I found myself on an elevator with Michael Hayes once. I told him I thought he was great as Dok Hendrix. He said "I'm glad you liked it." in a real REAL annoyed tone of voice. HA I'll have that memory forever. Good times.

      What was Vince's strong point. I feel no sympathy for what McMahon is going through now. F that clown.

      I was a Dok fan too. Always had a soft spot for him from when he and Todd Pettingill used to do the Action Zone. Especially on the morning of PPV’s I used to get so hyped I would feel butterflies. At the time I didn’t even put 2 and 2 together that Dok was Hayes.

    One of my favorite feuds back in the day was Ted and Tommy Rich vs The Feddbirds. Ted eventually turned on Rich after the infamous pile drive attack on Ted. Good stuff

    While Hayes HATED his character, I like Dok Hendrix because him hosting The Action Zone was fun to watch and Michael Hayes is one of the best talkers of wrestling to this day.

    Changing him to Dok Hendrix was idiotic. They made clowns out of so many established veterans.

      That was Vince's strong point. It was all a joke to him. Glad he's going through the crap he's going through now.

    Doc was a great commentator and talker. Plus what a voice. Sure Michael PS Hayes was something else, but Vince needed color commentary, not Michael PS Hayes or Jimmy Garvin who flopped in his only WWE appearance.

    A story on the freebirds teddy was a very underated heel and former wwf champ when he bought it from andre,,the birds were like a rock band in the 80s, battling the likes of the von erichs, the road warriors, the 4 horseman etc, hayes was the brains and speaker and could work, gordy the big guy, and buddy roberts from the 60s was the bump taker big drinker but tough,then hayes teamed with jim garvin in the ealry 90s as the new freebirds, hayes was very smart too work for wwe all these years and make a good a pay year in it and year out !!

    Doc Hendrix was a stupid move, Micheal Hayes already had a established and well known persona.
    That was Vince flexing

      I always said why are you calling yourself a name other than PS Hayes.. we know who you are.

    • @jaythor70
      @jaythor70 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I'm sure it was Bucky Dunn telling Vince that no one knew who Hayes was anyway- so just give him a new identity, no one will know the difference. And, as usual for the guy who knew nothing about wrestling....he was wrong. But, we'd seen Vince repackage so many others, it was just another SMH moment, and we moved on. It was a terrible gimmick.

      @@mrmoose6619 well there was limited internet back then for a lot of people. AOL was just starting to gain some steam. So only the minority of people that didn't watch WWF would know who he was unless they read the wrestling magazines or were fortunate to have a computer with AOL.

      @@mrmoose6619 Vince didn't create the Freebirds and he didn't want any connection to the old NWA southern wrestling....typical McMahon. Why would you take Barry Windham and Kerry Von Erich and have them wrestle as The Stalker and Texas Tornado?...

    • @mrmoose6619
      @mrmoose6619 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @fmthebaron I was from the heart of WWF territory... got NYC media and all the WWF Shows... I didn't get cable til 92... and I don't rememeber TBS being a part of my cable for a few years after (we had and still have a crap provider). I knew who the Freebirds were and who PS was. I think most fans knew... even in the Northeast.

    I wonder if The FreeBirds could have been reborn with Hack Saw Jim, Jimmy Jam and Mr. PS Hayes himself. Jimmy and Hayes needed that big bad heavy weight country boy hick type to clock anyone who talks bad about the team. Gordy was needed almost as much as Hayes. It did not help all there heat died with the Von Erics either. Sad time always wins

      I respectfully disagree. Although there was no need to change his name, hayes made the very rough years of 94 to 96 sound as exciting as possible. Heck, he made diesel vs king Mable sound as big as Hogan vs Andre...

    Dok Hendrix was a dreadful gimmick. One of the best talkers in the business and he had his balls cut off by VKM simply because he could.
    Vince has been sabotaging himself out of sheer pettiness towards others in the wrestling industry for 40 years. This isn't something that started in the 2010s or 2000s, it's always been part of who he was.
