His bones gave him pain, all the time of his life. So he probably didn't have much fun playing. But no doubt he was inspired and he's left us great music.
As as connoisseur you simply can´t dislike a performance from Michel like this one. Michel always stayed 100% true to the standards he chose to play. He was so very contemporary but also played some of the standards like no other. Satin Doill, Caravan, Take the "A" train" and many others. His art will never leave me.....
In tears... he played as if he KNEW time was running out, so he wanted to play EVERY NOTE and play them all beautifully... and perfectly... even the imperfections...
Back in 2006 I was so enchanted with Michel’s magical playing. I asked my piano teacher, a local jazz icon , if it’s appropriate to listen to Michel exclusively. He answered “That’s very good.”.
I have watched three videos thus far on this genius of a pianist. And for as much as I love jazz this man was a true icon. I am saddened that I never got the chance to see him perform at all. But the legacy of music and inspiration that he left behind is beyond any words that I can express. I am actually teary eyed because you can really feel what he is playing...sigh. I have to go out and buy his recorded works. I had never experienced or heard of Michel Petrucciani until I was thumbing through a book called "Icons Of Jazz": A History "In Photographs 1900-2000 by Dave Gelly who is also a jazz tenor saxophonist. There are so many jazz musicians that I admire , respect and adore. Michel Petrucciani R.I.P. In 1977 the great American trumpeter Clark Terry was touring in France and was introduced to Michel. Clark Terry could not believe what he was hearing and hired Michel and at the time he was only 15.
Michel always say that his fisical condition was something good. Cause when he was young he could give all the attentions just to the music, no distractions .. Sorry for my bad english
Hey Daryl, I would advise you listen to "Conference de Presse", in duo with Eddy Louiss. It's my favourite of his albums for sure. Not easy to find though (but I'm pretty sure it's on iTunes, and some of the tracks are on TH-cam) Peace
corentin le vot I know it has been awhile since you wrote a response with some more information on Michel Petrucciani. I have looked for this recording on CD or on vinyl. So I will have to download it from the internet on iTunes or on TH-cam as you advised. Do you play yourself. I am going to start back with playing trumpet but just for fun. However I really love classical and jazz and several types of music too. Have a wonderful week Corentin and thanks so much for your info on this jazz giant. Daryl Harvey
I had the chance to ear him in concert in the mid 90's, close to Bordeaux (in Mérignac). That was an amazing moment of music. I was very surprised by his very percussive and precise way of playing, and by his faculty of including other melodies as an musical hide and seek. He had a very efficiant sense of humour and shared a lot of stories about music and other stuff... like how, with Eddy Louiss, with whom he was suppose to record a disc, they spent most of the time they have eating and drinking wine.
breath - taking. With one hand this man captures more music than I knew was there. Like many comments, i experienced the best of accidents when I heard 'looking up ' and thought WHO IS THAT!!!!
Quel grand maître ! Chaque morceau me semble être à la fois être un feu d'artifice avec la légèreté de jets et jeux d'eau. Merci pour ce partage lumineux 💖🙏🌞
ive only just got into jazz, any uk people here who have sky arts, watch the the programme blue note, this guy is in some episodes, one of the best pianist piano players i have ever seen by far
Un "satin doll" Ca c'est du jazz mais pas n'importe lequel des arrangements, celui de Michel. Un virtuose qui ne nous a jamais quitté au travers de sa musique et qu'on n'oubliera jamais !!!

I really liked the simplicity of his one hand solo and jazzy feel. This man is physically disabled yet he still demonstrates great jazz. I tip my hat to you Michel.
Here is a man who puts his whole soul into his music and has fun doing it! What an inspiration!
His bones gave him pain, all the time of his life. So he probably didn't have much fun playing. But no doubt he was inspired and he's left us great music.
@@mariolinabronzini108 idiotic take but thank you I guess
@@dask7428 what are you finding idiotic in my comment?
@@mariolinabronzini108 "he probably didn't have much fun playing" hope you know why you're wrong now

Qu'est-ce que tu nous manques Michel. C'est dingue.

Fair point and very sad. What a guy though and achieved so much in such a short space of time.
